Saturday, 17th October 2009 It had almost been three and a half months since that day that Reefer had gotten Jake out of jail. Jake had been grateful that h didn't have to do the time in there. It was enough to have been in there for a short time, but not as long as the sentence he had been served, after being found to have spiked the drink of Brendan Harris' girlfriend. But for Jake, he knew who Anastacia Potter was, and he got away with mucking around with her drink. Though he hadn't forgotten about their little one night stand two weeks previous. God, she was still the same Stacey that he loved in collage - fun, and easy to get into her pants. He wondered then if she was still with that hick of a guy, or could he have more fun with her. He had tried to see if he could find her, but he didn't want to risk coming across Brendan again. Who knows what damage he could do to Jake. So not to get in any trouble in Las Vegas, Jake had decided to visit good old Los Angeles. He hadn't been there for quite a few years, and had real no connection to the town, but he just felt that he needed to go there. Might be some things that I can get into here, though Jake, as he rounded the corner of one of the busy streets. He headed in the direction of the public library, hoping to find some hot action with the collage girls. Jake knew that some didn't always do homework on the weekends, as that was a time for fun, but others might, and he hoped that they were cute enough for him to have some fun with. Jake soon spotted the library, and he crossed the street. Just outside was a fruit stand, and he gave the man money, picking up a green apple. Might as well play the part of a collage student, always eating thought Jake with a grin. He then made his way inside, and began to scan the room for anyone who might just be a student studying.

It had been a busy day for Bobby, there was a band playing in town and Connor had been asked to interview the band. Connor had then in turn asked if Bobby could accompany him to take photographs. Bobby naturally said yes. Connor lost his parents when he was in his late teens due to a werewolf attack, something Bobby found difficult to accept for a while, not believing anything like that existed. However, Bobby soon formed a close bond with the boy when they both started working at The Chronicle together, and he now looks to him as a son, seeing as his blood son was hardly ever around.
Thinking of his blood son, the last he had heard about him, he had been sent to jail for spiking some female's drink. Bobby loved his son obviously, but he didn't like who he was, and he had been trying to track him down for a few weeks now to try and set him on the straight and narrow. It was rather sad when you looked toward your colleague as your son when your real son was out there somewhere. When Connor was finished his interview and Bobby had taken all the necessary photos required, Connor said he had to go to the library before they headed back to the office.
Bobby slapped Connor on the shoulder, “Fair enough son.” Bobby called Connor that in an affectionate way, if he could have adopted Connor he would, but he was legally too old to be adopted now, besides he didn't need it written on paper, the way they acted around each other was proof enough. Connor sometimes called him 'old man' and Bobby loved it, laughing every time he used it. It was the typical cheeky humour belonging to Connor. So they both made their way to the library.
Once they reached the library, Connor went off to get whatever it was he was looking for, and Bobby just looked around aimlessly. When Connor returned, and said he was ready to go, that’s when Bobby spotted him. He absentmindedly put his arm up to stop Connor from going anywhere, “Hold a minute son, just spotted someone I really need to speak to.” Bobby couldn’t leave it there though; he had to explain to Connor who it was he had seen. “Come over with me, you should probably meet him anyway.” Bobby made his way over to his son, and turned to see Connor was following him.
The soon as he reached Jake, he put his hand on his shoulder, “Well, well, if it isn’t the elusive, troublesome son.” He then gave him a half hearted smile; he then turned to Connor, “Connor, meet Jake, my blood son.” Bobby turned back to Jake, “Jake, meet Connor, someone I wish you could be more like.”

{ooc - sorry both of these posts took so long}
Connor had been asked to see a band that was playing in Los Angeles to interview them, and when he was told he could choose his photographer, he hadn’t hesitated and asked Bobby right away. Bobby was a good friend to Connor and in many ways he looked to him as a father figure, even taking to call him ‘old man’ from time to time. Connor was glad when Bobby said he would go with him. Once Connor had finished the interview and Bobby had taken all the photographs he needed, he smiled at him. “Thanks old man, I need to go to the library before we head back to the office though, that cool?” He asked Bobby having a feeling it would be alright with him, but Connor never took anything for granted. So when Bobby said it was fine, he smiled at him, “Cheers, let’s go then.”
It didn’t take them too long to reach the library and once they were inside, Connor turned to Bobby, “I won’t be too long.” So off Connor went to get what he was needing, and left Bobby to have a look around. Connor had probably only been about five minutes when he made his way toward Bobby and said he was ready to go. However, Bobby put his arm up stopping him from going anywhere, and he frowned wondering what was wrong. Bobby soon spoke saying he spotted someone he really needed to speak to. “Who is it Bobby?” Then Bobby said he was to go over with him as he probably should meet him. This intrigued Connor as he couldn’t think who it could be. He knew Bobby had a son but he didn’t speak of him too often.
Bobby didn’t say anything else as he walked off and Connor followed him, he soon stopped and Connor watched as he patted this guy on the shoulder with his hand, Connor’s curiosity started getting the better of him now and he asked again, “Who is it Bobby?” Although when Bobby spoke next, his question was soon answered as Bobby spoke of his elusive and troublesome son. Oh thought Connor, so this is Jake. Bobby then turned and introduced them, although when Bobby told Jake who he was, and how he wished Jake could be more like him, he wasn’t too sure where to look, as he just gave Jake a rather sheepish smile and ran his hand through his hair rather sloppily. “Hi Jake, it’s good to finally meet you.” Although was it really? Bobby hadn’t spoken of his son Jake often, but of the times he had, he didn’t have many glowing things to say about him. Awkward, thought Connor, as he just stood there now with his arms by his side, wondering what Jake was going to say to what his father had said.

Jake soon spotted a pretty blonde, who was checking out the stack of law books on the shelf only a few steps away. Brilliant, thought Jake, someone who might be up for some legal fun. He had had his fun of doing things that weren't right, and had landed it hot water for it. So Jake had to now think of ways to have fun that wouldn't make him find himself behind bars, ever again. Just as Jake was getting closer to the pretty blonde, he felt a hand on his shoulder. He didn't have to instantly turn around, as he soon heard who it was who was talking.
Jake rolled his eyes, then turned around. "Great to see you too, Dad." Then his dad introduced him to this guy, who was standing with him. Jake eyed him off, as his dad introduced him as Connor, adding later that he wished that Jake could be more like him. Jake gave Connor a small smile, almost smirking. He then looked at Robert. "Are you sure? Because I think I am fine just the way I am thank you very much." Jake just looked at the both of them again. "I don't need the father son talk right now, dad." With that Jake walked off, leaving them behind.
He had lost his chance, noticing that the blonde had since left, and he shook his head. Every time he was after some fun, there was his dad. But where was he when he needed him the most, when he was in jail. Jake continued to walk away, looking back once at his father. Turning back, beginning to head out of the library, he thought then about him being human, and his father having an ability. Jake always hated that he never had any sort of ability, but he blamed his mother for that one, seeing she was human. He had to have gotten his genes from her instead of Robert. That just made him all the more angry, making him punch the wall as he walked out of the library.
Jake soon started to head down the steps, but then stopped, sitting down in the sun. He hated arguing with his father, but they hardly saw each other. Jake had gone to jail, but then when it came time for Reefer to let him off the hook, taking the blame, Jake made a mad dash, to get away from everyone. Sometimes he wished that he had another brother to talk to, even if he was to end up being the older borther. But really, he loved his freedom, and didn't care much of what happened to himself. But he never wanted to visit jail ever again.

Bobby hadn’t expected much of a reception from Jake, after all he was his somewhat estranged son. Bobby was a good man, and yet somehow his son had managed to go down some very dark paths. He knew all about the drugs, and he had even heard about the young girl he had forced himself on, news spread fast when you worked for a newspaper, in many ways Robert was disgusted with his son, but at the end of the day, blood is thicker than water, and he had made it his mission to set his son on the right path, or at least do everything he could to at least get him in the right direction. So when Jake gave him his smart mouth reply of great to see you too, Bobby lifted his hand and smacked him on the back of the head. “Quit the smart mouth Jake, remember who I am.” He hadn’t intentionally set out to find his son, but he was glad he did. Maybe now he could try and get him on the right path.
He had then introduced Jake and Connor, but that apparently didn’t seem to go down too well either, he saw that look on Connor’s face as he told Jake he wished he could be more like Connor, he didn’t really think how he would have made him feel by saying that, he would apologise to Connor later, but really he had only been telling the truth, Connor was the son he never had in so many ways. Of course telling Jake he wished he could be more like Connor just earned Bobby another piece of his smart mouth. He shook his head, “What did I tell you about that smart mouth of yours Jake? Stop talking to me like I’m dirt on your shoe. I know you might rather forget the fact, but I am your father, and I think it’s time you listened to me son.”
The next thing he knew Jake was saying he didn’t need the father son talk right now and turned his back on them and began to walk away. Bobby turned to Connor. “See, this is exactly what irritates the hell out of me about him. I’m going after him, you’re welcome to come with me or wait in the car if you want to stay out of any confrontation.” Bobby then gave Connor a gentle slap on the shoulder and began to make his way after Jake. He didn’t let his son get too far away from him, before he grabbed him by the shoulder and turned him back around to face him. “Not so fast Jake. There are things you and I need to talk about. I have heard such terrible things, and as much as I sadly do believe them, I want to hear them straight from the horse’s mouth.” Bobby then began to push Jake in the direction of the door to exit the library, “I think a nice coffee while we sit it out is in order.”
Bobby knew of a small cafe close by which wouldn’t be overly busy at this time of the day, and they could get a booth at the back away from everybody else. He needed to get his son sorted, he just had to pray that Jake would eventually bring down his walls and let him in, and with a bit of luck, maybe Connor might actually be able to knock some sense into him too. Hell he’d ask Connor to go wolf on his son if need be, although he knew Connor didn’t like that side of himself, so he actually would never ask that of Connor.

Connor was feeling a little bit uncomfortable as he watched the scene unfold between father and son, especially when Bobby slapped Jake on the back of the head for talking smart to him. He didn’t really want to get involved as such, at least, not until Jake actually spoke to him or interacted with him in anyway, all he did do was give him a smile which was more of a smirk when Bobby had told Jake he wished he could be more like him. Soon Jake was walking off on his father, and Connor wasn’t sure how Bobby was going to take to that at all. He didn’t seem to be best pleased with his son as it was, without having him walk away from him.
Bobby then said he was going to go after his son which Connor had only expected, then told him he was welcome to come with him, or go wait in the car if he wanted to avoid confrontation. Connor gave Bobby a weak smile, “It’s alright old man, I think I’m old enough to take care of myself, I’m right there with you, you might need back up even if it is from your own son.” So Connor followed Bobby, but kept a good distance behind him, not wanting to get too involved or too close, he wasn’t feeling overly comfortable near Jake, but wanted to be there for Bobby’s sake.
As Bobby grabbed at Jake’s shoulder and said he wasn’t to go so fast, Connor sort of looked down at his feet, what kind of back up was he going to be when he couldn’t even look the guy straight in the eye, but then he had heard about the girl he had forced himself on and Connor didn’t like that kind of behaviour, so god only knows what else Jake had been up to. When Bobby mentioned having a coffee and sitting it out being in order, Connor couldn’t deny a coffee would be good. “Sounds good to me old man.” Then he swallowed hard, realising what he had called Bobby in front of his ‘son’, maybe Jake wouldn’t like hearing a guy speak to his dad like that, when Connor wasn’t related to him by any means. However, if Connor and Robert had met when he was much younger, he might just have let Robert adopt him, he looked to Bobby as a father figure anyway.

Jake had never gotten a hit by his father, unless you count the times when he got in trouble as a young boy, but that was it. But now, here he was, a man, and still getting hit by his father. He gasped, allowing his mouth to hang open at his father. Maybe he did deserve what he got from his old man, but maybe not. And maybe he hadn't heard what his father just said. "I haven't forgotten... dad. But where was my so-called dad when I was in jail, huh? Answer me that one." Jake didn't care if he got another smack across the head, or a hit. Didn't really matter either way. If it made his father feel good, then why was he to deny him that.
Jake hadn't missed that smirk come from Connor. So it seemed that he was liking what he was hearing from Robert, and from himself. Jake so wanted to smack that smirk off of his face. But again his mouth ran away with him, when he turned his attention to Connor. "Do you think that this is funny? What, seeing our dysfunctional family having an argument?" Jake then just glared at Connor, and attempted to turn his attnetion back to his father.
All Jake could do was just roll his eyes, and shake his head, when Robert spoke about what he told Jake about his smart mouth. Jake always had something to say, and it didn't worry him in the slightest if he got in trouble. But just not the trouble that would land him in jail again. He so wanted to just tell his father off for what he said about talking down to him, and reminding him that he was his father, and that it was time he honestly listened. Jake then just told him he didn't need the father son talk, and walked off.
Jake soon felt his father's hand on his shoulder, and stopped on the stairs outside. He was soon turned around, facing Robert, who didn't look impressed with Jake right now. So what is new, he thought. Jake kind of half listened to what his father was saying, glancing ever so often at Connor, who was right behind Robert. Once he finished talking, Jake was pushed, and he soon heard his father talk about getting a coffee. He rolled his eyes, at the same time Connor mentioned that the coffee sounded good 'old man'.
Jake's defenses came up again, not liking what he just heard. He turned around, and glared at Connor. "What did you just call my dad?" He so wanted to punch this guy's lights out. Who did he think he was? Jake soon got a handle of himself, and continued to walk in the direction that his father was pushing him in. He just wanted to get this over and done with, so he could go back, and see if he could find that blonde that he had seen in the library.

Bobby hadn’t really meant to slap Jake on the back of the head, but he was just so annoyed with his son’s arrogant behaviour and smart mouth, that it seemed to him it might be the only way to get through to him. He might have been in his late twenties, but he was still Jake’s dad and that meant he didn’t deserve to be spoken to or treated like a lump of dirt. It didn’t take long for Jake to start using his smart mouth again asking Bobby where he was when he was in jail. Bobby glared at his son, “Well, to be honest with you, I was too disgusted and shocked at first to try and do anything about it, and not just at the revelation of the drugs, I heard something else you did through a colleague and I just couldn’t believe it. By the time I realised you probably needed my help and came to Las Vegas to find you, you had already been set free from jail. So don’t give me that where were you when I needed you crap.”
Bobby was really annoyed at Jake, but he knew there was good in his son, there had to be, there was good in everybody, they just had to find it and in some it was hidden rather deep, like Bobby’s son Jake. When Jake then smart mouthed to Connor, Bobby put his hand up, “That’s enough Jake. What has Connor ever done to you? Quit the attitude, do you hear me?” This was obviously going to be a lot tougher than he realised it would be. Bobby had then suggested they all go for a coffee and talk things over, clear the air so to speak. Connor had then said it sounded like a good idea and called him ‘old man’ in his affectionate way like he has for quite some time now. Bobby never thought anything of it, and smiled at Connor, “Thanks son.” No sooner had he said that though Jake went at Connor again like a bull.
Bobby grabbed at Jake’s shoulders, “Hey, hey, that’s enough, if you must know, Connor lost his parents a good few years ago, and had to raise his younger sister, he hasn’t got anybody to call a mom or dad, so I started looking after him and his sister as if they were my own, don’t panic they don’t live with me or anything, but I look out for them, I call him son, he started calling me ‘old man’ they’re terms of endearment, nothing more and nothing less. So you can get off that damned high horse of yours.” With that, Bobby kept his hand on the back of Jake’s neck and led him to the cafe which he saw when they made their way into the library in the first place. Once he got him inside and sat him down at a table, he waved his hand for a waitress to come over, he didn’t want to give Jake an opportunity to slip out the door when his back was turned putting in their order.
When the waitress came over, Bobby smiled at her, “One latte please, one cappuccino with marshmallows please and...” He trailed off looking in the direction of Jake, “...whatever my son wants please.” He thought he would just let Jake put in his own order, he knew Connor well enough to know what he usually drank whenever the two of them went for coffee together. Once Jake put in his order, the waitress left and Bobby turned his attention back to his son. “So, do you want to tell me just what the hell you’ve been playing at over the past few months? I thought we raised you better than this, but obviously I’m wrong.” He would approach him about the rape, but he wanted to see if Jake would admit it himself, but he probably wouldn’t.

Connor was suddenly beginning to feel a little bit like a third wheel between Bobby and his actual son, especially when the talk got heated between the two of them. Connor felt like he was now imposing on the father/son time they so both obviously needed. However Connor didn’t make things any easier for himself when he had smirked after Bobby had hit his son on the back of the head, which resulted in Jake going off at him. Connor put both his hands up, “No, no there is no problem here, but at least you’ve got a dad, you should be thankful and grateful for that, not smart mouthing him all the time.” No sooner had he said those words he regretted them, it really wasn’t any of his business was it? But he and Bobby were close friends, and Connor didn’t like it when people spoke to him like that, even if it was his own son. The simple fact that Jake had a dad and didn’t want to know was enough to send Connor off on one, as he really missed his parents and wished they were still in his life now.
Bobby then stuck up for him by having another go at Jake, which Connor didn’t think was a good thing, between what he had just said and Bobby having a go back at Jake, it was probably just going to fuel the fire which was already there. He looked at Bobby awkwardly, “Uhm, thanks Bobby, but it’s alright, just let him get out what he thinks he needs to get out, I can take, I’ve dealt with worse than your son, believe me.” Bobby had then suggested about going for a coffee to sit and talk it out, well for he and Jake to sit and talk it out, Connor would just be that third wheel again, but he had told Bobby it sounded good, adding in his affection term for him, ‘old man’. That was a mistake he soon realised, as Jake went off at him again.
He was about to speak up but Bobby got in pretty quick again and spoke his son down over it, making Connor smirk once more. When Bobby was finished, Connor decided to speak some more, maybe it was going to be his turn to be smart mouthed, but he and Bobby didn’t deserve to be spoken that way, Jake did. “Come on Jake, you’re having a go at me for calling him ‘old man’ in an affectionate way, and you ask me what I’m calling your dad? So he’s only your dad when it suits you, is that it? You’re pathetic Jake.” He then turned to Bobby with an apologetic look on his face, as he shouldn’t talk to Bobby’s son like that, but he found he couldn’t help himself. “Sorry about that Bobby, but he’s annoying me.”
Bobby then marched Jake out of the library and toward the cafe they had passed on their way into the library earlier. Connor followed them both, still feeling like a third wheel, but feeling like he had to be there for Bobby’s benefit, you never knew if Jake would just suddenly up and leave, given his attitude so far it was a high probability. Once they were inside and Bobby called the waitress over he immediately asked for his latte and Connor’s own drink the cappuccino with marshmallows, he loved how Bobby never forgot the coffee he liked the most. He was now waiting for Jake to have another go at his dad knowing exactly what Connor would like to drink without even asking him. Connor had always hoped if he’d ever met Jake that he and Bobby’s son could become friends, like brothers, but looking at him just now, that was the farthest thought from Connor’s mind.

Jake just let out a sound from the back of his throat, and just rolled his eyes. "Maybe I have done stuff that I am not proud of now, but it happened. So we all have to live with it. More me than you, I guess." After Jake had seen that smirk from Connor, he had told him off, and when Connor replied, Jake just brushed it off. Where was he getting off telling him about family? Jake didn't have the energy to fight with both of them, one was bad enough. Jake's dad then told him to quit the attitude, which just made Jake roll his eyes again. "Whatever. I am old enough to say whatever I want." It was true, but to Jake then it sounded like he was eighteen again, telling his father off. He was so much more older than that.
Jake hadn't like the fact that there was some sort of friendly talk between Robert and Connor. Jake was meant to be the one to call his father 'old man', and Robert in return to call him 'son'. And it was hurting Jake inside so much, but he didn't want it to show on the outside, keeping the attitidue going. But then he felt his father's hand grab his shoulder, and heard his father tell him about Connor, which made Jake feel aweful all of a sudden, looking downcast. But it only lasted for a second, when Jake's hard exterior kicked in, once he heard Connor talk. "Well, I am sorry about your parents, but I am not going to apologise for anything that I have said." When Connor apologised to Robert, Jake just rolled his eyes again. With that, Robert led Jake in the direction of the cafe by the scruff of his neck.
Jake felt like a little boy all of a sudden, being forced to do something that he seriously didn't want to do. But here he was, in a cafe with his father, and some guy who was looking at Robert as their own father. Sure it was pretty shitty to lose your parents, but it was one to call a person, who already had a son, to treat that person like they were his own. It was just making Jake's blood boil slightly, and didn't think that Connor should be here to witness anything that he might say or do, as really, it wasn't any of his business. Though everyone knew what Jake did, so maybe it didn't matter in the slightest.
Jake didn't have a way out, as he was the first one in the booth, so he was stuck there to talk about whatever his father wanted to talk about. The waitress came over, and Jake smiled at her, as she was another blonde. He acknowledged her, and saw that smile of hers. "Hey there." Robert put in two orders, one was his own, and the other wasn't Jake's, unless he wanted marshmallows. Jake glared in Connor's direction, and then looked back at the waitress. "I will have a strong coffee please. Really strong." Once the waitress left, Jake sat back in the booth, waiting for the firing squat to start.
Jake half looked at Robert, when he asked him what the hell he had been playing at over the past few months. "Maybe you did, maybe you didn't. But that all changed when mum passed away." Jake knew that would get a rise out of Robert, but really it still hurt that she was gone. Ever since he was ten, Robert had been the one to raise him. But once he had turned eighteen, he was out of there. "So maybe you are wrong. Things happen, and now here I am, talking to you." Jake turned to look out the window, feeling the emotions from way back then, bubbling to the surface. He took a couple of deep breaths, trying not to let it get the better of him.

Bobby was truly sick of Jake’s attitude, was it really any wonder he had hardly any time for the one who was his real son? Connor was most definitely the son he wished he’d had. However he wasn’t, his son was Jake and unfortunately you were stuck with your family. When Jake said that he had done things he wasn’t proud of and they all had to live with it, Bobby began to shake his head. But then Jake added that he had to live with it more. “Damn right you have to live with it more. I actually don’t know how you can live with yourself. You raped a girl Jake, it’s disgusting, I don’t even know if she was the only one and that horrifies me.” His voice was low so as not to alert too many people to what he was saying, but he knew it was Jake who had raped that girl, because Jonathan had spoken about it at work. He didn’t know the girl’s name, nor did Jonathan know that it was his son, probably just as well really. “I don’t really know you at all.” What if he had gotten this girl pregnant? She could be carrying his grandchild, not that he was over the moon about that, he’d only be happy to have a grandchild when it was born out of love.
Bobby was quite glad when Connor spoke up saying Jake at least had a dad; he instinctively put his hand on Connor’s arm and gave it a gentle tap. Jakes smart mouth just got in the way again. Bobby just shook his head wondering if there really was any point in trying to talk to his son; it would seem the old saying about a leopard never changing its spots might be true of his son. Yet something was telling Bobby to keep at it, he was his son, his flesh and blood. “Maybe you are old enough to do what you want, but you’re still not too old to get a telling off. Take a good look at yourself Jake. Take a good look at what you’ve become.” Bobby just shook his head again, he was getting somewhat sick of Jake and his fiery attitude, and it had to stop.
When Bobby then told Jake about Connor losing his parents a few years ago he saw that downcast look on Jake’s face for a few seconds. He honestly thought he might have struck home then, but no, the hard exterior was back. Could nothing penetrate through to Jake? It seemed to Bobby that it couldn’t. When Jake said he was sorry about Connor’s parents but wasn’t going to apologise for anything he said, Bobby could feel the anger build within him. “You know Jake when I saw you I thought I would try to help you, but it’s not going to work if you can’t even begin to help yourself. Why get defensive over the terms of endearment? It’s not as if you’ve been around much recently to have the ‘father/son’ relationship that you seem to be protecting so much right now.” Bobby’s voice was raised because he was truly angry with Jake know. How could he show no compassion toward Connor? It was sick. What kind of man had he raised, or at least tried to?
When Connor spoke up about Jake having a go at him, when it was obvious Jake only saw Bobby as a dad when it suited him, he had added that Jake was pathetic and then turned to Bobby to apologise. Bobby just side glanced at him, with a sigh, “It’s alright son, you’re the not the only one he’s annoying.” Bobby then took a hold of Jake and virtually grabbed a hold of him to make sure he’d go to the cafe with them. Once they were in the booth at the cafe and the waitress came over Bobby saw the smile on his son’s face and he just let out a heavy sigh. Maybe his son would never learn. Bobby also caught Jake glaring at Connor, probably because Bobby knew what Connor liked to drink, well tough. Once Jake placed his order and the waitress left, Bobby fired right in asking Jake what the hell he had been playing at and that he thought they had raised him better him. Bobby frowned when Jake began to speak especially when he mentioned about his mum Claudia passing away. Bobby’s heart sank, he still missed Claudia dearly.
“Your mom may have passed away when you were ten Jake, but we still raised you together for ten years, fair enough I was on my own the rest of those years but I still figured I did a good enough job.” Maybe Jake was right, maybe he did do something wrong along the way, how else did he turn out the way he had. He had wanted to shake the life out of Jake, tell him he was a good for nothing, but really when it came to it, some of what Jake was saying was hitting a nerve. Maybe it was his fault, maybe the whole thing was his fault. “Maybe you’re right, maybe this is all a waste of time.” Bobby was going to get up and just leave, but then he stopped himself, he wanted to help Jake, and if he walked away now, then he wasn’t going to do that, was he? “I just want you to start behaving like a decent human being, is that too much to ask for Jake? How do you think your mom would feel knowing you had turned out this way?” He decided to bring in his mom again but use a slightly different approach, maybe that would get Jake thinking, or at least he hoped it would.

This Jake was definitely a character alright, looking at Bobby, Connor was finding it difficult to believe that this guy was his son; they were so different when it came to attitude and personality. As Jake agreed that maybe he had done stuff he wasn’t proud of now, Connor scoffed at the back of his throat, he covered it up by putting his hand up to his mouth and coughing. Really, he had maybe done stuff he wasn’t proud of now, raping a girl was terrible business. However, Connor decided to let Jake’s dad deal with that, so he just remained silent. Connor just couldn’t believe that Jake could be so cool about it all. People can get put away for rape, and he was walking free and not giving a damn about the terrible deed he had done. Connor felt truly sorry for Jake’s dad, having to deal with a son like Jake.
When Connor did finally say something, telling Jake he was lucky he had a dad and should be thankful he just caught a glimpse of Jake rolling his eyes and then saying he was old enough to say whatever. Connor just put his hands up in surrender, “Whatever man. Jeez you’re one pain in the ass you know that?” So much for this sibling bond he had hoped to one day have with Bobby’s own son, because with the way things were going now, that was the farthest thing from Connor’s mind. It was a pity, especially since he got on so well with Bobby. Maybe he would have to stop looking to Bobby as a surrogate dad, and just let father and son get to know each other all over again, they didn’t need a third wheel in the way.
Connor should have known calling Bobby ‘old man’ would have got a rise out of Jake, so when he did comment Bobby had a go at him telling Jake about the death of his parents. He thought that might have softened Jake, and it did for a few seconds, but then he seemed to be back to normal again. He apologised for his parents but not for what he said. “Fair enough, but jealousy isn’t nice Jake, and maybe if you had been in your dad’s life more recently, there’s a chance you might understand him more, and maybe a chance we might have been like brothers. Calling your dad ‘old man’ isn’t meant to hurt you and I can guarantee if you’d been around when Bobby and I got acquainted there’s a good possibility you’d be getting called bro, but you know what, forget it.” Connor was actually beginning to think he should just go and wish Bobby luck, he wasn’t there to take that kind of crap, but he had promised Bobby he’d be there for him and didn’t want to let him down, so decided to stay.
Once they were inside and Bobby placed their orders and let Jake ask for his own, Connor could only sigh and roll his eyes at the way he acted to the waitress. If he was like that with all the females it was no wonder that girl Jonathan told them about got herself in trouble, he was such a ridiculous charmer. After the waitress left, Bobby soon got to the point, and once more Connor felt like he was just in the way. After all, what could he say to this part of the conversation? It was purely between father and son. Just hearing Jake say that maybe Bobby did or maybe he didn’t raise him good had Connor wanting to just punch him one, and of course made him open his mouth again. “Look Jake, I might not know your dad that well, but I know him well enough with the way he’s treated me to know that he was probably the best dad you could have had. You seriously need to get over yourself.” Crap, why did you have to go and open your mouth again for Connor? Just leave it to the two of them to sort out, you should just get the hell out of there, was all he could think, but no, he’d stick it as long as he could for Bobby’s sake.

So it seemed that his father knew about his other thing that he did. In Jake's eyes he didn't think it was that, but later on after the deed was done, he knew that he had just committed a crime. So in one way he had hoped that no one would find out. He hadn't told anyone, unless that little bitch did, that he had sex with twice. But then he remember all of the drug related news about him getting caught, so she had probably seen his picture, then told someone. Though he wondered why he didn't get busted for the rape. That was a mystery and a grateful thing on his part. The time in jail was enough to deter him from doing anything to put him back in there.
Jake just shook his head slightly, not bothering to look at his father. He was kind of glad that Robert was not raising his voice. But he knew that he would definately cop it later when they weren't in such a public place. Just hearing his father say he didn't know Jake at all, kind of hurt him, but that feeling soon subsided. He could feel the anger inside him a little, hearing what he father said, in his head again. Jake so wanted to just yell at him, but he knew well enough to not bring attention to himself.
Jake then had told them that he was old enough to do what he wanted. His father replied back, and once again Jake just rolled his eyes. He just was getting sick of saying the same things over and over, and he just wished that his father would just disappear, leave him alone, and let him get back to finding that girl that he had spotted before he got interrupted. Jake shifted on his feet, and put his hands on his waist. He was certainly hearing what Robert was saying, and in someways he knew he should listen, but then his smart ass personality would get in the way. Then Connor put his hands up, and commented on what Jake was in his eyes. Jake looked up and kind of glared at Connor, but then looked away, wishing for this nighmare to be over.
After Jake said that he wasn't going to apologise for anything that he had said, he coped it from both angles. Firstly, his father spoke about trying to help him, but it wasn't going to work if Jake couldn't help himself. Then it sounded like he was blaming Jake for not being around. Secondly, Connor put his two cents in, talking about jealousy, and about how he should have been in Robert's life, and about being brothers. Jake just shook his head, smirking at that one. This Connor guy was definately not his brother, and would never be. He was too much a goody-two-shoes in his book. "Fine. If you don't think you can cure me, then go and be his father. Seems that you want him more than you want me right now." Jake turned and really looked at Robert. "So if that is all you are wanting right now, all that heart to heart stuff, you aren't going to get it here."
After Robert commented to what Connor said, about Jake annoying him, Jake was virtually grabbed and pushed towards the cafe. Jake knew this wasn't the end of it. He would have to go along with whatever his father wanted to do right now, and live with this day, the longest day in his life. Once the waitress to their orders, his father began to lay into him again. Jake just wanted to bury his head in the ground, or somehow just disappear from this current situation. Why did he not get an ability like his father?
Jake was waiting for his father to speak, after Jake had mentioned his mother. He had turned away, feeling the emotions from that time when he was ten. Instead of hearing his father's voice, he heard Connors. Jake continued to stare out the window trying so hard to ignore what he was saying. But of cause he couldn't, and as he turned, he could feel his eyes misting up, which he knew that both his father and Connor would see. "Well maybe you deserve each other. If you want to leave, just leave." Jake looked at Connor more, then looked at his father briefly, but then he turned to look out the window again. He tried to hard to hold back the tears, but it wasn't working. Soon Jake felt them fall, and that was the end of it. His walls were crashing down.
Jake tried to listen what his father was saying. He spoke about Claudia, and about his he thought he had done a good job without her. Then a few seconds later, Robert added that maybe Jake was right, and that maybe it was a waste of time, basically talking to Jake. Jake hung his head, still unable to look at his father, knowing that what he might look like now, what with getting so upset. He let out a breath as he thought he felt his father get up, but then he was back, talking more. Jake raised his head at this point, still unable to look at either of them. Then the mention of his mother came into the conversation, and that just did it. The tears just started to flow more. Jake slowly turned, eyes closed, but then opened them to look at his Robert, swallowing some of the tears back. "I'm sorry."

Jake’s smart ass attitude was really beginning to get Bobby down, he was desperately trying not to lose it with Jake, but he had this feeling he was going to crack at any minute, after all, there was only so much smart ass talk you could take from one person, especially when that person was your own flesh and blood. “I like being Connor’s father figure, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want my own flesh and blood to let me be a father as well. You haven’t let me be that for some time now Jake; you can’t exactly hold me responsible for that.” Jake then added he wasn’t going to get the heart to heart stuff here. “You’re right, I’m not going to get it here, and it’s more than just a heart to heart, I’m hoping to sort your head out once and for all.” That was when Bobby grabbed Jake and marched him out of the library and toward the cafe. Bobby was going to get that heart to heart one way or another.
After a short while in the cafe and of listening to Jake’s smart mouth some more, Bobby had commented that maybe it was a waste of time, Jake’s response did nothing to help change Bobby’s mind. “If I didn’t think there was even the slightest chance of an ounce of good in you Jake, then yeah I’d just walk out.” Although even as he said those words, Bobby was seriously considering just leaving his son to get into any mess he managed to find himself in. So instead of leaving he began to speak again once more bringing Jake’s mom Claudia into it, but using a different approach. That was when Bobby thought that maybe he had finally got through to Jake, it wasn’t easy to tell at first as he kept facing away from him and Connor, but soon Bobby caught the expression on Jake’s face and he could clearly see the tears.
Bobby had expected to get through to his son, but he hadn’t quite expected the tears to fall. He side glanced to Connor wondering how he was feeling about it, watching another man’s son crying might not be easy, but he figured right now if he showed concern toward Connor it might just throw up the walls from Jake again. When Jake finally faced Robert and apologised he knew he had finally broken down the walls, although he wasn’t sure what to say now. Oh that’s alright son, come here and hug him? He didn’t think Jake would appreciate that move somehow; besides, it wasn’t alright, not really. From what he understood Jake had done some terrible things. “Apology accepted Jake now why don’t you pull yourself together and then maybe I can see about getting you back on the straight and narrow; make you the young man your mother would be proud of.” Bobby’s voice was firm, but quiet.

Connor couldn’t believe Bobby’s son could be such a jerk, it was difficult to think of such a warm and kind hearted man, who had always spoke fondly of his wife to have such an asshole of a son. Connor had then made a remark about the possibility of him and Jake being like brothers but to forget it because he could tell from Jake’s attitude that was never likely to happen, the smirk he saw from Jake just confirmed that. Then Jake told Bobby if he didn’t think he could cure him to go and be his father instead, meaning Connor. Maybe it was just as well he and Jake weren’t brother like figures, Connor had a feeling that he and Jake would be doing a lot of fighting, whether that be physical or verbal. “Jeez Jake, he’s trying to be your father, or are you too thick to realise that?” Every time he insulted Jake he would glance to Bobby and give him a look of apology, he felt terrible for downing his Bobby’s son like that, but he was really pissing Connor off. Jake’s next words however, he decided to let Bobby deal with, as he just couldn’t help but think he was over stepping the mark every so often.
It hadn’t taken long for Bobby to literally drag Jake and march him to the cafe he had spoken of, and as much as Connor wanted to be there Bobby he couldn’t deny how uncomfortable he began to feel when Bobby began to lay into his son. Maybe he should have just gone home and left the two of them to it, after all if Bobby had broken through he and Jake could have met up another time. But no, Connor wanted to be there for Bobby and so he stayed. Now it looked to Connor, not that he was staring, that maybe Bobby had finally broken through to his son. Seconds later that confirmed when he saw Jake turn to face his father and Connor was sort of shocked to see tears in Jake’s eyes, but he did apologise.
Now Connor really did begin to feel awkward and out of his comfort zone, he didn’t really know where to look, so he slowly stood up, grabbing his drink, “I’ll uhm...just you know...leave you two, I’ll just be, uhm, over there.” Connor pointed to the other side of the cafe and made his way over, he figured that maybe now Bobby had broken through to Jake, they might want a bit of alone time, proper time to talk things through father to son.
{ooc – sorry it’s so short, my muse was flying earlier, but there wasn’t much for Connor to say or do, and figured he should give Bobby and Jake some space, so might leave Connor out of the next couple of posts if you’re happy with that.}
