Friday, 22nd January 2010 Dominic had promised Stacey he would organise a baby shower for her and organise it he did in his typical flamboyant fashion. David was more than happy for it to happen at his house and Dominic had been at the house most of the morning getting everything set up for later that evening, but before the baby shower was due to start, Dominic had asked Stacey if she and David would like to go to the movies to pass away the afternoon. David had decided to close the office for the day because his car was due its annual service and he wanted it to be done before Stacey’s baby was born, so that he would have the car at hand for when he had to take her to the hospital. However if Dominic had known that David wouldn’t have his car, he would have brought his, but he stayed close enough to Stacey and David that he never felt his car was needed because he could walk there in a matter of fifteen minutes or so. Dominic had bought lots of pink and white balloons, well everyone was certain Stacey was having a girl, and he had organised lots of buffet style food and made sure to bring plenty of peanut butter slices and plenty of coke which he had put into the fridge and he had even brought a huge tub of chocolate ice cream from Coia’s, the place where he and Stacey had first had their ice cream when they had bumped into each other only a couple of weeks ago for the first time after years apart when they had gone their separate ways after graduating. He then sat down on the sofa and clapped his hands together quickly, “Well, that’s taken care of that I think Stace, I think it’s looking good for later. The movie starts in about an hour, are you and David ready?” They had all agreed to go and see Avatar, it was the biggest movie out just now and although Dom had already seen it twice, he couldn’t wait to see it again.

Stacey couldn't believe that she had only two more weeks to go till she gave birth to her first baby. Two weeks ago, she had bumped into her best friend from school, Dominic, and now she couldn't imagine not having him in her life. Stacey had everything now, and was just waiting for the baby to be born, and her life was almost done. Now she had to think about a wedding, but really there was time for that, once the baby was born. She didn't want to tire herself out too much, and lately she hadn't been doing all that much, more so getting the house clean, and pottering around just doing odd things. She had mentioned this to the doctor the other day, when David and she went to their last appointment yesterday. Doctor Savarna said that it was her nesting instincts coming out. Great, Stacey had said, thinking that maybe it was getting towards the time for the baby to be born, and it was only fitting.
She had the appointment yesterday, because Dom had organised her baby shower for that evening. Stacey had no idea how Dom would go with it, but as he moved about the house that day, she saw that he had definately gone all out. David had closed the office for that day, well really it was friday, so it was okay, close enough to the weekend and all that. David had also put his car in for a service, which Stacey thought was okay, since she was still two weeks away from giving birth, despite all the trouble she had had over the last few months. But Doctor Savarna said that she wouldn't give birth as yet. He had given her an internal exam to see how it was going, and he had said that the baby's head was moving down, but not enough to alert her for a week or so yet. He asked her to come in the following Wednesday, to check her again. Stacey knew she had the best two guys looking out for her, but she still had this feeling that she might come early for some reason. She never told David her thoughts, nor Dom, but it was occassionally playing in her mind.
Stacey was sitting on the lounge, even though she hadn't done much that day. She had woken up with some back pain when she woke that morning. The night had come with broken sleep, but Stacey hadn't gotten up as often as she had been. She was grateful for that, having at least five or so hours sleep. Stacey had asked David to give her back a bit of a rub when she finally sat up in bed, and when she finally got out, she felt slower, which was only to be expected. Though during the morning, Stacey had felt a bit of pain, but she just put it down to the Braxton Hicks contractions. She had guessed right as soon as a pain came and went, there was no more. Stacey didn't want to worry David with it, as it wasn't the real thing.
Dom soon came in, and Stacey watched him sit on the lounge and clap his hands together. She gave him a bright smile, then lent forward with the pain in her back again. She placed her hand where it was in her lower back. Stacey turned to David, "Could you give that spot a bit of a rub please." She rested her arm on the back of the lounge as she turned around slowly for him to reach her lower back. Stacey then turned to Dom, "Thanks for doing all that for me. I really appreciate it." Then she looked at the clock, "Yes, I am ready. But I just need to go to the toilet again. Instead of the baby pressing on my ribs now, it is more so on my bladder. Hope I don't miss too much of the movie this afternoon, what with having to go to the toilet every so often." She slowly got up, and then smiled at David, "Thanks," then moved towards the bathroom to go to the toilet.

When Stacey had told David about meeting up with one of her best friends from school he had been so happy for her, he felt like having a good friend in her life was what she needed to help her get through the last few difficult weeks of her pregnancy. Alright, so she had him, but nothing beat the friendship of a good friend, and David had absolutely no qualms about that fact that her friend just happened to be a guy. Hell if you could put in the male category, he was more girly than Stacey was at times, but he could see how much Stacey loved her friend and that was good enough for David. Even if Dominic hadn’t been gay he would still have been happy for Stacey to have a friend to spend some time with when he was busy with work. She soon told David that her friend Dominic wanted to help organise a baby shower, something David thought was a fantastic idea and he was more than happy to let Dom do all the preparation for it, because David had to work anyway.
However he had decided to take the Friday off, the day which would be the night for the baby shower. Dominic had suggested they all go to the movies together and David thought it was a great idea, almost like a last get together before the baby arrived so to speak. He had decided to put the car in for its annual service that day as well, he figured it would be better to do it now than to wait any longer because he wanted the car to be available for when Stacey did go into labour. He had also arranged for a relief therapist to take over from him for the first few weeks after Stacey had given birth, so that he could be there to help her with the first few difficult weeks of the baby settling in and sleeping at night, so that he could take his turn of getting up in the middle of the night to allow Stacey to sleep more.
Now he and Stacey were just relaxing on the sofa while Dominic continued to sort out everything for the baby shower later that day. A short while later Dominic sat down on the sofa saying that he felt he had taken care of everything and that it looked good for later. David side glanced to Dominic and gave him a smile, he was so excitable about everything, it was kind of cute, if you could put cute and Dominic in the one sentence, David chuckled to himself at that thought. He then saw Stacey lean forward and he watched as she put her hand on a certain area of her back and then she asked him to give it a rub for her. “Sure honey, seems to be giving you a bit of bother, maybe it’s your backs way of telling you that there isn’t long to go?” David said as he rubbed the area Stacey had pointed to. He honestly didn’t mind, he just felt bad for the pain and discomfort Stacey was obviously going through all the time.
Dominic had then asked if they were both ready and Stacey thanked Dom for everything he had done and then looked at the clock saying that she was ready but she just needed to go to the toilet again. This made David frown a little, “Stacey are you sure that you really want to go out? I don’t want to put a dampener on anything; you just know that I’m worried about you, if you’re having a lot of discomfort you know?” David asked, although he knew he was probably going to lose this battle, as he knew there was nothing worse than being stuck in the house all the time when you were restricted to what you could do. Once Stacey was up on her feet she smiled at David and thanked him, “That’s alright honey.” He then watched as she slowly made her way to the toilet and couldn’t help but hope that nothing would go wrong while they were out that afternoon.

Once Dom had finished setting everything up for the baby shower for later that evening he had gone into the lounge and sat on the sofa clapping his hands together saying that he was sure he had taken care of everything and it was looking good and then asked if she and David were ready as the movie started in an hour. Stacey didn’t answer him right away however and he couldn’t help but watch with slight concern when Stacey sat forward and then asked David to rub her back a little. He immediately went into worry mode, “Are you alright Stace? I mean are you going to be okay for going out, maybe we should stay in?” He then gave her an apologetic look, “Sorry, I’m fussing, aren’t I sugar?” He then laughed a little, but he really couldn’t help it, Stacey was like his best friend in the whole world he didn’t want anything happening to her.
Stacey then spoke thanking him for everything he had done and that she appreciated it, Dom grinned at her and waved his hand “Oh it was nothing, and anytime sister.” Dom called most of his female friends’ sister or sugar, but with Stacey when he called her sister it wasn’t just his typical way of talking to a girl, he really did think of Stacey as another sister. He would do anything for her; just like he was sure David would do anything for her also. Stacey had then said that she was ready but just needed to go to the toilet again commenting that the baby was now pressing on her bladder instead of her ribs like before. Then as Stacey added about not missing a lot of the movie if she had to go to the toilet a lot Dominic went into fuss mode again. “Well, like I said before Stace, if you think you would be more comfortable just watching a dvd at home, you only have to say sugar.”
No sooner had Dom said those words David seemed to mirror Dom’s opinion and more or less said the exact same thing to her. Dom hoped that the both of them wouldn’t cause her to have one of her mood swings or get her upset, Dom had been lucky enough not to be around during one of Stacey’s mood swings, although if he had been he was pretty sure he would have been able to deal with it, hell Dom had thrown enough mood swings and strops himself for him and Stacey put together. Stacey thanked David for rubbing her back and then she made her way to the bathroom and Dom turned to David and gave him a weak smile, “You don’t think we’re fussing over Stace a little too much do you D?” Dom asked David, calling him D because he somehow didn’t think David would be too keen on calling him darling even if David did know about his sexuality, it was alright calling guys darling in general, but when they became good friends of Dom, he usually cut the darling and called them by their name or gave them a more appropriate nickname.

When Dom had come in, exclaiming that everything had been taken care of, Stacey heard David chuckle to himself. Now he knows what I mean about Dom getting excited over everything, she thought. When she had moved forward to talk to Dom, there was a pain in her lower back, and Stacey had asked David to give the area a rub. She listened to what he said, and she nodded. "Well as long as it doesn't happen today, I will be happy. Though will be happy to get Miss Potter out of me, that is for sure." She slightly laughed, but then murmured a bit at how good it felt as David rubbed her back. It was definately helping.
Dom then asked if she was okay to go out, suggesting that they should stay in. Stacey gave him a small smile, shaking her head as he added that he was sorry, and asked if he was fussing. "Maybe just a little. I will be okay." Stacey then thanked him for what he had done for the baby shower set up, and gave him a brighter smile when he replied. She was thankful for what he did, as David was always working during the day, and lately she didn't feel like doing much of anything, just cuddling up to David when she could in the lounge, or in bed, just being together.
Dom had asked her if she was ready, and Stacey said yes, after looking at the clock, and stating that she had to go to the toilet again, mentioned about the position of the baby and what it was doing to her. Stacey knew mentioning the fact that she hoped that she didn't miss the movie with the constant toilet runs, that they would both be concerned for her. Dom started off this first, "No, no. I am okay, really." Stacey gave him a smile, and then saw David frown. Here we go, she thought, another concerned male. "David, really, it's okay." She sighed a little, not feeling like arguing over it, really she didn't have the energy to have a go at either or both of them. "We will be sitting down for what, three hours. I will just make sure that I have the aisle seat, okay?"
Stacey slowly got up from the lounge, and thanked David for the back rub, which he acknowledged, and Stacey slowly made her way to the bathroom. She felt like she just made it, as she sat down. Though as she did what she had to do, Stacey felt a pain in the lower area of her stomach. She closed her eyes, trying not to freak out or anything, hoping that it would go away. After a few seconds, it left, and she let out a sigh of relief. Stacey was hoping for a relaxing afternoon, but she wasn't sure she was going to get it.
Once she was done, Stacey moved to the bedroom, where she retrieved her ballet flats, slipping them on, and then headed out to meet Dom and David in the lounge room. As she passed through the entrance, she slowly grabbed her bag, putting it over her shoulder. Stacey then smiled at Dom, "You wouldn't have any spare peanut butter slice for me to take for the movie?" She giggled again, knowing that there would be. If not, a stop on the way was in order.

As David rubbed Stacey’s back in the area she had pointed to he had said that maybe it was her back’s way of telling her that there wasn’t long to go. He smiled as Stacey replied to him saying as long as it didn’t happen today. Well he hoped it wouldn’t happen today either, what with him having put the car in for its service, although they could quite easily call for an ambulance or something. “Well you’ve got a couple of weeks to go honey, so hopefully everything will be okay, but I can only imagine how good it will for you not to have the extra weight and pressure.” David replied and inside he was praying that it would be okay, not that he didn’t think he was ready for Stacey to give birth, but because he didn’t want it happening slap bang in the middle of the movie and having them all cause a scene as they tried to help Stacey out of the cinema hall without disturbing everyone else watching it.
Just at that moment Dominic asked Stacey if she was alright and maybe they should stay in and then apologising mentioning that he was fussing. David was actually grateful to have someone else backing his corner where looking after Stacey was concerned but he had a feeling that she would have agreed that Dom was fussing. When she said to Dom that she would be okay David gave Dom and Stacey a smile and then she thanked Dom for everything he had done. “I couldn’t agree more.” David added giving Dominic another warm smile, what with David working and Stacey resting as much as possible neither of them would have been able to organise what Dom had been able to do for the baby shower. So David was just as grateful as Stacey was because he didn’t want her over exerting herself if possible.
When Stacey said she would have to go to the toilet first and added about having frequent trips throughout the movie both Dom and David showed their concern, Stacey responded to what Dominic said first and then she turned to David and told him that it was okay and then she sighed. David knew that her sighing was never much of a good sign, so he put his hands up in a surrender mode, “Okay then Stacey, as long as you’re sure.” He gave her a warm smile so that she would hopefully know that he wasn’t going to pursue it any further and then she added that she would sit in the aisle seat. “Alright then honey, I didn’t mean to have a go at you, you know that.” David then watched as Stacey slowly made her way to the bathroom. When she was gone Dominic asked him if he thought they were fussing over her a little too much. David sighed a little and shrugged, “Maybe, who knows Dom; I just know that Stacey can be stubborn about things but that just makes me love her all the more. She’s determined to go, so I say we back down, what can go so wrong at sitting down and watching a movie anyway?”
Soon enough Stacey was back in the lounge room and he heard her ask Dom if he had any peanut butter slices on him. Somehow David had a feeling he did, but decided to say, “Well if not, then we can stop on the way and pick up some, we’ll need them for stocking up since we’ve run out.” With that David picked up the phone and dialled for a taxi. “There should be one in a couple of minutes I was told, so we might as well make our way outside.” David then led the way and once everyone was outside he turned and locked the door and soon the taxi was there and David opened the door allowing for Stacey to get in first and then he slipped in beside her, assuming that Dominic would probably just go in the front next to the driver. Once they were all inside David told the driver where they were heading to.

When Dom began to fuss over Stacey when he saw that her back was hurting and suggested staying in to watch a dvd instead, she began to shake her head and gave him a small smile and he had then realised he was fussing too much and apologised asking if he was fussing too much. Dom replied saying, “Alright Stace, sugar if you are sure.” Then Stacey had thanked him for everything he had done for her. Dom had waved his hand and said it was nothing adding anytime sister, meaning he would do anything he could for her whenever she needed it. He saw that bright smile she gave him then, the one that lit up Stacey’s face and he grinned back at her.
Dom had then asked if they were ready to get going and when Stacey made the comment about having to go to the toilet before leaving and hoping that she didn’t miss much of the movie because of it, Dom had jumped in first saying once more that they could stay in and watch a dvd instead, even though deep down inside he knew that was the wrong thing to suggest as she had already said before she was fine. As he thought she said she was okay and gave him a smile and he replied saying, “Okay Stace, sugar, I just wanted to make sure my best girl was fine.” David had also then voiced his concerns which got a sigh from Stacey and immediately Dom was thinking oops, he didn’t want to witness an argument between his best girl and her fiancé; it wasn’t easy or nice being stuck in the middle. Thankfully David backed down and Stacey made her way to the bathroom.
Dominic had then made a point of asking David if he felt they were fussing over her too much. David replied saying that maybe they were but Stacey was stubborn which made him love her all the more and then suggested they back down because she was determined to go and what could go so wrong about sitting down and watching a movie anyway. Dominic gave David a bright smile then, “Okay, I’ll stop fussing then, sometimes I think I’m worse than any female friend Stace could have looking out for her and I guess you’re right D, not much can go wrong when all she’s doing is sitting watching a movie.” Dom giggled a little then knowing fine well he was speaking the truth.
Stacey then asked him if he had any peanut butter slices on him for her to take to the movie, but before he got to reply David had said if he hadn’t they could stop off for some on the way. “Never fear sister, I have you right.” He then handed her over a paper bag which held about five of them and he grinned, “Do you think that will be enough to see you through Stace, sugar?” He grinned at her again and then David led the way outside after saying that a taxi would be with them in a couple of moments. Soon enough they were all inside the taxi and David had told them where they were going and the taxi took off heading in the direction of the cinema.

Stacey had commented on hoping that today wouldn't be the day for the baby to come, David then pretty much reassured her about how much time she still had. She didn't want to put doubts in his head, thinking about all the times she had to go to hospital. But then he added that how he could only imagine how good it will be for her to not have the extra weight and pressure. Stacey shook her head, with her eyes bright, "You have no idea at all." It was a great experience, but it was going to be good to have her body back to herself in some ways.
Dom had pretty much suggested not going out, but she said she would be okay, which he then said if she was sure. Stacey gave him a warm smile, "I am sure." She then thanked him for arranging the baby shower, and she smiled when he had replied. David had commented, and she placed a hand on his leg, smiling back at him, loving having the two of them here right now.
Stacey had said that she needed to go to the toilet again before they left, and both men fussed over her again. She should have been used to it by now, but sometimes she got a bit irritated on the inside, sometimes not wanting to show it on the outside. Dom said okay, and just wanted to make sure that his best girl was fine. "I am." Then David had made his comments, and she nodded, giving him an apologetic look, as the sigh had been done after her comment to him. "I'm sure." She had then made the comment about sitting in an aisle seat, which David commented on, but then added that he didn't mean to have a go at her. "I know David. It's okay." Stacey then headed into the bathroom, leaving the two guys alone.
After another pain, Stacey was right, and headed back out to get the show on the road. She picked up her bag, and then had asked Dom if he had any peanut butter slice, so that she could take with her to the movies. David replied if not they could get some on the way, which made Stacey smile, "I was thinking that actually." She then turned back to Dom, who replied, which made her smile all the more. When he handed over the paper bag with some in it, he asked her if that would be enough, Stacey took the bag and opened it up to have a look, then looked back at him as she scrunched up the top. "That will be enough, don't worry. I will just make sure that I have plenty of popcorn in between each one, and Coke of cause." Stacey giggled a little after that.
Stacey placed the paper bag in her bag, as David rang for a taxi. He then spoke that it would be there in a couple of minutes, so might as well go outside. Stacey nodded, and slowly made her way out the door. As she stood, she looked around, and thoughts of what she had been feeling before were still haunting her. I just hope that today goes alright, no hiccups, thought Stacey. Once they made their way down to the taxi, David had opened the door for her, and she slowly slid across the seat, placing her bag beside her on the seat. Once they were all in, they were on their way to the cinema, after David told the driver where to go.
On the short drive to the cinema, Stacey rested her head on the head rest. She wasn't tired, so to speak, but everything that she had been worrying about, and what she had been feeling was enough to exhaust her a little. Stacey slowly reached for David's hand, interlacing her fingers in his, and gave him a smile. But then it happened. Her smile fell away from her face, as she looked down at her clothes, more so her jeans, and they were soaked. There was only one word for what she was thinking, "Fuck." Then Stacey squeezed David's hand as a pain came over her, a huge pain.

When Stacey shook her head and gave David a bright smile saying he had no idea at all over how good it would feel for her not to have the extra weight and pressure all he could do was smile at her some more. Well really there wasn’t anything he could say to that. It did make him wonder if he should suggest that they just have this one child even though it wasn’t technically his, but David knew what Stacey had gone through with this pregnancy pretty much from the day she found out about it and he wasn’t so sure he wanted to see her go through all of that again even if they did say no one pregnancy was the same. However it wasn’t the right time to be discussing things like that, they would have to be alone as much as he liked Stacey’s friend Dominic this conversation wouldn’t be for his ears.
After Stacey made the comment about sitting in an aisle seat after he and Dominic had done a bit of fussing over her, he had said he didn’t mean to have a go at her. He could only give her a weak smile as she said she knew that and it was okay. David looked up at her from where he was sitting now that she was on her feet and took her hand, “Okay honey.” He replied and gently stroked the back of her hand with his thumb before Stacey made her way to the bathroom.
As Stacey was in the bathroom Dom had asked if they were fussing over her a little too much and David had said maybe but had gone on to mention about Stacey’s stubborn streak and that they would be as well backing down adding that little could go wrong when they were just sitting watching a movie. He had to smile brightly at Dom as he more or less agreed with what he had just said to him. Then David had to chuckle at what he said about himself. “Well, I wasn’t going to say anything about the whole girl thing Dom, but now that you come to mention it.” David replied and laughed a little, but really David loved the fact that Dominic cared enough about Stacey to worry about her just as much as he did too.
When Stacey was out of the bathroom and ready to go she had asked Dom if he had any peanut butter slices on him to take and David had quickly got in saying if he hadn’t they could stop on the way. He had to chuckle slightly with his eyes twinkling when Stacey said she had just been thinking that. Then Dom said that she wasn’t to fear and he would see her right as he handed over a paper bag which apparently held said peanut butter slices asking her if that would be enough. When Stacey replied to Dominic, David couldn’t help but laugh out a little; it was going to be like going to the movies with his fiancé and one of her female friends. David couldn’t look at Dom and see him as a guy, he just acted like such a girl, but it was definitely nice for Stacey to have a best friend even if that friend was a guy.
Soon enough David had called for a taxi and they were all outside waiting on it, which didn’t take long for it to arrive. Once they were all inside David soon let the driver know where they were going and as the taxi made its way to their destination David side glanced toward Stacey and saw that she was leaning back on the headrest. He was so tempted to ask if she was alright and maybe they shouldn’t have gone because she looked quite tired, but he decided to hold his tongue, she had already said she was fine. Soon enough he felt Stacey take his hand and interlaced her fingers with his, and as he caught her smiling at him, he smiled back. If Dominic hadn’t been in the taxi with them, even if he was in the seat next to the driver he would have reached over to kiss her.
Just as quickly as Stacey smiled at David however he noticed the smile fade which immediately gave him concern but before he could ask if she was alright he heard her say fuck and then the hand which she was holding was squeezed extremely hard. David took another look at her and he saw that her jeans were soaked and he knew that could only mean that her waters had broken. “Shit!” David exclaimed, of all days for him to put the car in for its annual service it had to be the day that Miss Potter decided to enter the world. He knew that between Stacey’s fuck and his shit that it would alert Dominic, so before he even turned to say anything, he decided to just lean over, “Stacey’s just gone into labour Dominic.”
He then turned to Stacey again and with another look of concern on his face he couldn’t help but then ask, “Stacey have you been having pains since you woke up and never told me? I don’t mean to be nasty about it, I’m just trying to work out how far into the labour you might be.” He wanted to know if he should tell the driver to step on it to the hospital or if there was a chance that their baby might be born in the back of this man’s taxi.

Dominic saw that warm smile Stacey gave him after he had asked if she was sure that she wanted to go out and then she replied saying that she was sure. What else could he say or do? Nothing really needed to be said, so he just smiled back at her with his top lip curled and winked. It was a typical move of Dominic’s when he was in Stacey’s company, it was like an expression or look just for her or something, but then he used a lot of the lip curling and wink combination in his music videos because for some reason the girls just seemed to love it. The amount of female fans he had was pretty crazy, he had no idea why so many females loved him, why couldn’t one of his fans be a gay male who just happened to love him as much as his female fans? Then he might actually find love and settle down like Stacey had. He sighed to himself then getting annoyed for allowing his thoughts to be thinking like that, another session with David might be in order if he couldn’t pull himself together. He had a wonderful life what right did have to be moping about all the time?
After Dominic had asked Stacey if she was ready to get going she said she had to go to the toilet which had made Dom fuss over once more but he told her he was just making sure his best girl was fine to which Stacey responded saying she was. Dom sort of put his hands up in surrender then knowing that it really was time to back down a little. He gave her a smile as he bit down on his bottom lip, “Alright, sorry Stace sugar.” He replied as Stacey then also had to tell David that she was fine before she went off to the bathroom.
While Stacey was in the bathroom and Dom had spoken to David about them possibly fussing over her too much he had agreed with what David had said and then added that he was probably worse for fussing over Stacey than any female friend she could have. He had to giggle along with David as he chuckled at what he had said and then David said he wasn’t going to say anything about the whole girl thing but now that he mentioned it. Dominic just put his hands up into the air, “Well this is me, you either love me or hate me, I can’t change who I am and I wouldn’t want to.” Dom didn’t know why he had said that because he knew David wasn’t having a go at him or anything, but it was his own fault he did bring up the topic of him being more like a girl than a girl.
Just as they were getting ready to head out to wait for the taxi Stacey had asked Dominic if he had brought peanut butter slices which he had naturally, but David had stepped in to say they could stop off for some if he hadn’t. Dom had told her never to fear and that he would see her right as he had then handed over the bag which contained about five of the said slices asking her if that would be enough. He giggled as she said that it would be enough and that she would have to get some popcorn and Coke as well. “Naturally, have to make sure my best girl is fully stocked with her cravings now, don’t we?” Dom said as he playfully nudged Stacey and then David before they headed out to wait for the taxi.
Soon enough the taxi had arrived and David went into the back with Stacey which had prompted Dom to go in front next to the driver. Everything seemed to be going well as the taxi made its way toward the cinema when Dom suddenly heard Stacey say fuck and soon after David say shit. Dominic tried to turn around to look at what was going on in the back but with the seatbelt around him it was too restricting for him to move properly. But then he felt someone leaning forward and Dom turned his head to hear what was being said. When David said that Stacey had gone into labour, well Dom just about died with excitement. He yanked the seatbelt out and made sure to turn around properly. “You’re kidding me right?” He asked, but knowing full well they wouldn’t joke about something like that and then he saw the wetness around Stacey’s jeans.
Dom put his hand up to his mouth, “OH MY FUCKING GOD!” Dom exclaimed, shouting and then began to squeal as he clapped his hands together, “I’m going to be an auntie; I’m going to be an auntie.” Then realising that now wasn’t the best place or time for Stacey to be giving birth he tried to calm himself down as he bit on his bottom lip, “We’ve got time to get her to the hospital though right, I mean the driver can step on it, no?” Dom said as he ran his hand through his hair and then began to giggle slightly out of nerves more than anything else, of all places for Stacey’s baby to make an appearance it had to be on the way to the cinema, it looked like he and David had been right to show their concerns earlier. Then for no other reason than the fact that Dom is an excitable girl he just began to squeal again and sort of bounce up and down in the seat he was sitting in much to the annoyance of the driver who was glaring at him. “Ya think ya could turn and sit in the seat properly ya ain’t a child ya know.” The voice was gruff but Dom just turned round and poked his tongue out at the driver, “Shut up, I’m going to be an auntie, it’s the best news ever.”

Stacey replied to what Dom said, which made him put his hand up in like surrender motion. He then had said alright, which made Stacey give him a bit of an apologetic smile, not liking having been a bit abrupt with both of them. After Stacey had said that she knew he wasn't having a go at her, she felt David take her hand, and replied to what she said. She looked back at him, giving him a warm smile, and gently squeezed his hand.
Once Stacey had come back from the bathroom, she had requested any peanut butter slices that may be extra for the movies. Dom had given them to her in the paper bag, and she had said that there would be enough, when Dom asked if that was enough. Though she had said that she would have to get some popcorn and Coke as well. She smiled at what Dom said next, and giggled a little when he nudged into her. "Yes. This food is very important." She shook her head, then followed everyone out of the house, towards the now waiting taxi.
They all got into the taxi, and were soon off in the direction of the cinema. Stacey had taken David's hand in her own, and smiled at David, who soon returned her smile with one of his own. But then it all changed, and she soon felt a huge pain, then looked down to see that in fact her waters had broken. Of all the places for it to happen, it had to happen in the taxi. Why couldn't it have been at home, she thought, but no, this one wants attention it seems. After Stacey had said fuck, she had began to squeeze David's hand tight, and then heard him reply with shit, when she saw him look down at what had happened.
Stacey felt like she was going to start panicing, but then she knew she had to do what they were taught in the classes. She placed her free hand on her stomach and started to breath through the obvious contraction. Stacey kept her hand in David's, and continued to breath, and then heard what he said to Dom, who was in the front seat. Through the breathing, Stacey called out to him, "No... He is ... not fucking kidding." She closed her eyes, trying to will for the pain to just subside, and as she felt it start to lessen, she heard Dom going off in the front seat.
As Dom did his thing in the front seat, David had turned to Stacey and asked her if she had been having pains since she woke up, and had never told her. Soon enough the pain had subsided, and Stacey lent her head on the head rest. She slowly nodded, and felt tears form in her eyes. "I had the back pain as soon as I got up this morning. And a few times during the day have had some pain in the lower part of my stomach. I just thought that it was just the Braxton Hicks contractions, like I have had." She then remembered the last one she had. "The last one I had was about five minutes ago, or less."
Stacey looked up and out towards the front of the taxi. It seemed to her that Dom had his seatbelt off, trying to see what was happening. Well not a lot was, just the contractions now. Then the driver spoke to Dom, which made Dom come back at him, which made her smile on the inside. Then Stacey squeezed David's hand again, and began to cry out a bit with the pain. She turned to David, "Not sure if she is going to wait." Stacey then did the whole breathing again, bending over with the pain. It was getting intense, and Stacey was feeling that it was more intense than what she thought it would be.

David had to admit to himself that he thought it was nice that Dominic seemed to take care of Stacey’s needs what with him having the peanut better slices on him to give her. The way he was with her was more like a brother from David’s eyes and he couldn’t help but wish that Dominic was around when Stacey was going through her tough time when Brendan had split from her, but then if Dominic had been around, chances are Stacey would never have come to him and then he would never have met her and it was just all too horrible to think about.
Soon enough they were in the taxi heading toward the cinema when it happened. Stacey had gone into labour. It hadn’t taken much for David to work it out when he heard her say fuck. Naturally when he had told Dominic he said the typical thing when you were shocked about something, asked if he was kidding, but he obviously knew that David was far from kidding, but Stacey replied with a swear word which he knew was just due to the shock of it, but really she hadn’t needed to swear at the poor guy. However David wasn’t going to say anything about it, it wasn’t worth the backlash he may get for his efforts, besides once Dom knew that he wasn’t kidding he swore himself, but not at Stacey just for effect.
The one time he had to put his car in for a service the baby just had to make its entrance into the world. He could tell Stacey was worked up and this was worrying him, the last thing she needed was to start panicking over it. Soon enough Stacey began the breathing techniques she had been taught and David continued to hold her hand stroking the back of it with his thumb. He had then asked her if she had been having pains earlier that day and not told him about them. Not that he was having a go at her; he just wanted to know if there was a chance they were going to have to deliver the baby before they got to the hospital, as the taxi driver was now going to have to go in a complete opposite direction.
“Driver, could you about turn and head towards the hospital please?” David asked, and then looked back at Stacey waiting for her to reply to what he had said. The driver looked in his rear view mirror and nodded his head, “Sure mate.” He replied in a rather gruff voice, obviously not impressed with Dominic’s female like squeals over the pending birth of his ‘niece’. All David could do was chuckle slightly at the scene in front of him, but really he had to concentrate on Stacey, if there was a chance this baby wasn’t going to wait for the hospital, there was a chance he might have to go into midwife mode, not that he’d had any training on that sort of ground, but at least he had general medical knowledge for being a Psychological Doctor, which was his professional job title, he just preferred to call it Therapist, because that’s what he does, give therapy.
David listened as Stacey told him about what she was feeling and nodded his head when she mentioned Braxton Hicks, after all with there still being at least two weeks to go that was a reasonable assumption to have made. David squeezed her hand when he saw the tears begin to form in her eyes. “Hey, it’s alright, I probably would have thought the same thing if you’d mentioned it to me anyway, at least the first couple of times anyway.” David replied in what he hoped was a soothing voice. Stacey then said the last one she had was about five minutes ago or less. “Damn, that’s not giving much time for us to get to the hospital.” David said and then rubbed at his brow with his spare hand.
David soon felt his hand being squeezed again and Stacey cried out in pain which made David look at her sympathetically. This was the bit he was going to hate, because although he had no idea what it was like himself, naturally, he knew that it was painful for women and all he wanted to do was to take it away but he knew he couldn’t. Then Stacey said the one thing which David was worried about hearing, that she didn’t think the baby was going to wait. “Driver, you’ll need to pull up somewhere, we aren’t going to be getting to that hospital on time.” He then looked back at Stacey and held both her hands in his, “If that’s the case Stacey then I think you’re going to have to let me be the midwife and deliver your child.” He then looked up at Dominic, and gave him a weak smile.
“Dominic, do you think you could get in the back when the driver pulls up and sit behind Stacey, just like hold her up in your arms or something, hold her hands if need be, because my hands are going to be needed elsewhere if I’m going to have to deliver this baby.” David said as he rubbed at his brow wondering if he was going to be able to handle it. Maybe phoning for an ambulance would have been a good idea, but it was probably a bit too late to be thinking about that one now.

When Dom had put his hands up in surrender like motion after fussing over Stacey he saw that apologetic smile she gave him but he just brushed it off by waving his hand at her and smiling brightly. Well really he had been fussing over her, he couldn’t deny it, but then he had been doing it with good intentions which were probably why she had given him the apologetic smile. Then when Stacey had come back from the bathroom and they were getting ready to head out she had asked about peanut butter slices. Naturally Dominic had made sure to see her right and had a few in a bag which he had then handed her over. When Stacey then commented about popcorn and Coke he had playfully nudged her saying that he had to keep his best girl stocked up on her cravings. He grinned as Stacey giggled a little and then commented about the food being very important. “I know that sister.” Dom replied and then they had made their way out to wait for the taxi.
They were soon on their way to the cinema, but shortly after leaving there was a slight commotion from the backseat when Dom heard Stacey say fuck and then David say shit. He had tried to turn around, but the seatbelt had been restricting him, but when David had leaned forward to say that Stacey was in labour he yanked the belt out and turned right around leaning his hands on the back of the passenger seat and asked if he was kidding knowing full well he wasn’t kidding but it was just one of those things you said on the spur of the moment when you find something out like that. Stacey then said that he wasn’t fucking kidding. Normally he would have said there was no need for her to swear, but really this was all a bit unexpected for her, so he couldn’t really blame her. Then he swore himself, but not at Stacey just at the situation because he couldn’t believe his best friend was going into labour in a taxi of all places. “I’m sorry Stace sugar; I didn’t mean to say that. I’m just well excited sister.”
Soon after David asked the driver to about turn and head in the direction of the hospital, which had got a gruff reply from the driver, and Dominic snapped his head around and glared at him, “Heaven’s above darling she’s in labour, give them a god damned break eh? Besides, nobody talks to my family like that, got it?” Dominic had gone into complete defensive mode like he always did when Stacey was concerned. Dom always felt protective of Stacey and now he had David to be protective over too and with his ability of being Superhuman meaning he had super strength among other attributes he could take on anybody who dared to upset his friends and family. The driver didn’t say another word as he swung the taxi cab around and headed in the other direction.
Then Stacey and David conversed between themselves and for a brief moment Dom actually felt a little out of place and like he maybe shouldn’t be there, but then his mind drifted back to the day he and Stacey met back up again and she had asked him if he wanted to be there at the birth and he had said yes anyway. But this wasn’t how he had expected it to happen. He then listened to what Stacey said about thinking the pains she had been feeling earlier were Braxton Hicks. Dom couldn’t contain his excitement about the fact the baby was coming now, so he felt there wasn’t anything he could say or do which would be constructive in the situation. However he kept himself turned round looking toward the backseat.
Then Stacey mentioned something about the baby not going to wait which had prompted David into action and telling the taxi driver to pull over somewhere and then told Stacey that he was going to have to deliver her child. This made Dom even more excitable, “Oh god, David that’s going to be one memorable experience for you.” Dom said as he put his finger up to his mouth to suck on his thumb nail as you do when you’re nervous about something which is due to happen. David then spoke to Dominic directly and asked for him to get into the back with them when the driver pulls up so he could sit behind Stacey to support her, because his hands were going to be needed elsewhere. Well it didn’t take a genius to work out where exactly, which made Dom look around a bit uncomfortable for a second. But then it wasn’t as if seeing a woman naked repulsed him, in fact he could quite readily admit when females were attractive and stunning, he had just never fancied a woman.
“Uhm sure, yeah I could do that, I had agreed to be there at the birth to help support her anyway along with you, so yeah D, that won’t be a problem.” Soon after Dominic said that, the taxi suddenly came to a stop as he pulled up into an empty taxi rank and put his hazard warning lights on. “I’ll uhm, just go phone an ambulance for ya; ya never know they might get here on time.” The driver said as he stepped out of the taxi not really wanting to be in there when it was all happening. He just hoped they wouldn’t make a mess of his upholstery.
Dom then chose that moment to jump out of the passenger seat like David had asked and opened the door to the back and slipped in beside Stacey. “Alright sister, D, I’m ready and waiting whenever you need me.”

Stacey had just said that David wasn't fucking kidding when he said that she was going into labour. As she closed her eyes to will the pain away, she heard Dom swear himself then. Then he apologised, which made her open her eyes, as she continued to breath, and look at Dom, slowly shaking her head, basically saying 'it's okay.' As she continued to breath, David caressed the back of her hand. It kind of helped, but she wondered how David's hand was with her continually squeezing it with the pain. Though that was the least of her worries really, she was just trying to relieve the pain somewhat.
Stacey heard David tell the driver could he turn and head towards the hospital, which the driver acknowledged and did. When the driver had replied in a gruff kind of voice, she heard Dom replying to what or how he spoke. A very small smile crept along Stacey's face hearing Dom saying that no one talks to his family like that. As the pain subsided, Stacey answered David, telling him what had been going on, ever since she woke that morning. Due to the emotion of it all, Stacey had begun to get upset, with tears forming in her eyes. The feel of David squeezing her hand, and the words he said, made the love for him grow then. He truly understood what she was thinking. She gave him a weak smile, wiping her eyes a little. Stacey then told him that the last contraction had been about five minutes ago or less.
David had commented on that, saying that that wasn't going to give them much time to get to the hospital. Stacey again smiled weakly at him, knowing that he was right. It just felt that things were going quickly all of a sudden, when another pain came over her, and she cried out with it, squeezing David's hand. Stacey then said to David that she didn't think the baby was going to wait. David then told the driver that he would have to pull over. As she began to breath again, Stacey felt David now have both of her hands, and replied, saying that if that was the case, then she was going to have to let him be the midwife and deliver the baby. She moaned a little, then looked at David with a worried look, then continued to breath. Through this contraction, Stacey still heard Dom say that it was going to be a memorable experience for David. Maybe it would be, Stacey thought, but right now they all had to concentrate on getting the baby out safely.
Stacey continued to concentrate on breathing, and David spoke to Dom about having to help when the driver pulled over. Hearing that David was going to have to deliver the baby made Stacey start to worry herself. What if someting happened as the baby was being delivered? What if something happened to her during or after? The thought of any of that brought on the tears, as the pain started to subside again. Dom replied to what David had said, then soon enough she felt the taxi stop on the side of the road.
Stacey rested her head on the headrest of the backseat, and tried to regain her breathing and strength from that last contraction. Soon enough Dom was beside her, and she turned to him, giving him a weak smile. "Well, this was not the situation I was hoping for when this one came." She rubbed at her stomach a little, then deeply breathed a couple of times to prepare herself for what was to come. Stacey then turned to David. "I think now would be the time for me to let you see how it's all going down there. How dialated and all that?" Once David replied, Stacey undid her jeans, taking them off with help, and then her underwear. She felt slightly naked without her bottom half over her body, but she knew it was needed. Stacey then took off her jacket, "Maybe this could go over to give some privacy. Not sure if passerbys want to see what is happening."
Stacey moved a little so that she had her legs across the seat, and her back to Dom. She brought her legs up so that David could maybe see what was happening.

David still couldn’t believe that Stacey had gone into labour; it was almost as if Miss Potter knew that David had put his car in for a service, as if she wanted to make it as awkward for the both of them as possible. He had to chuckle into himself for thinking like that, he actually couldn’t wait for the baby to be born, he just wished he hadn’t put his car in for its service, he should have just waited until after Stacey had given birth to have been on the safe side. After David had asked the driver to turn around to the hospital he had replied in a gruff voice which had caused Dominic to have a go at the driver and David couldn’t help but smirk thinking to himself, ‘go on Dom you give him hell.’ It was especially nice hearing Dom talk of them as his family, because even though David didn’t know Dom as well as Stacey he had already taken to him like a brother-in-law.
Then David had asked Stacey how long she had been feeling pains for and hadn’t mentioned them, but really once she told him he had said he would have thought the same thing, especially with there being two weeks left. But it looked as if they weren’t even going to make it to the hospital as more pains continued to come over Stacey. His hand was getting squeezed quite a lot and it hurt like hell, but he wasn’t giving a damn about that, the only thing he gave a damn about was Stacey and making sure this baby was going be born safely and of course for Stacey’s own health and safety too. When she gave him a weak smile and wiped at her tears, David gave her a warmer smile and then leaned in to kiss her on the forehead. “We can do this Stacey.”
David soon told the driver to pull over and said that she was going to have to let him be the midwife. When he heard the moan from her he knew exactly what she was thinking, “Stacey, I know I’m not a professional doctor of medicine, but I think I know enough, I promise if I think there’s anything going wrong, I’ll get onto an ambulance right away.” He had then asked Dom to step into the back to help support Stacey once the taxi had stopped. When Dominic replied David looked at him and gave him a slight nod of the head and smiled, “Thanks Dom, appreciate it.” David had then heard the taxi driver say that he would phone for an ambulance anyway and he nodded his head in acknowledgement. “See Stacey, the driver is phoning for an ambulance anyway, because even if this one arrives before they do, they’ll want to take you in to check you both over anyway.” He gave her a reassuring smile.
Dom was soon in the back behind Stacey and said he was ready for them whenever. Stacey had said to Dom it was not the situation she had expected to be in when the baby made its arrival. David looked at Dom and then to Stacey, “I don’t think any of us expected it to be in this situation, but like I said before, we can do this.” He said in a soothing voice, trying to keep the situation under control, well that’s what he was trained for. Stacey then told David that she felt now was the best time to see what was going on down there. David nodded his head, “Yeah honey that might be a good idea.” Again as mentioned before he didn’t have a medical degree in this sort of stuff, but they had seen enough videos that might give him some sort of an idea. He then looked at Dom, “Alright Dominic if you can just allow Stacey to lean against you, maybe take a hold of her shoulders, or her hands, whichever is easier for Stacey.” David instructed and then waited for Stacey to fix and position herself.
Stacey then spoke of putting her jacket over her to give some sort of privacy. “That’s a good idea, I know it’s hardly the best place and situation, we’ll just have to do the best we can.” He then rolled the window down slightly, “I don’t suppose you have some sort of blanket you could cover a couple of the windows with do you?” He asked the driver and he turned and gave him a weak smile, “Yeah I might have one or two, leave it to me.” David smiled at him, “Thanks.” He then went back to Stacey and gave her as much of a reassuring smile as possible, “Okay, let’s see what’s going on down here if I can work it out at all.” He shook his head slightly still finding it difficult to believe that he was going to have to deliver Stacey’s baby.
Once Stacey was in proper position he began to take a look, he remembered from books and videos that she needed to be ten centimetres dilated, he didn’t have a measuring tape on him, which wasn’t exactly going to be helping, but looking at what was going on he reckoned that she was pretty much there, maybe only one to go. He looked up at Stacey, “Well, without anything to measure, I’m not too sure, but from videos and things, I reckon you maybe only have about one centimetre to go, so we can’t have you pushing just yet I don’t think, but if you feel you have to, let me know and I’ll look again, okay?” In many ways David was wishing he had become a proper doctor of medicine, this might have been a whole lot easier then.
