It was five hours till New Year’s Eve and Jason was making his way to the celebration that was taking place at Time Square. He was going to see how big the crowd was before he would even think about joining in. He really didn’t care that much for the celebration.
Back in Iraq, they rarely celebrated the New Year. Or that is what his friends that had been in Iraq the previous year’s told him. It really didn’t matter. He celebrated 2008 in Iraq. He hated being reminded of this day. On this day a year ago, he lost his two best friends.
He just stood on the corner as he glanced around Time Square. It was packed. He decided that he wouldn’t celebrate the New Year here. He would go to Starbucks and watch it on television. It was much better than standing in the cold with a bunch of screaming idiots. He walked down the street and made his way to a Starbucks.

Anthony loved New Years, but he hated the crowd and the screaming. As he sat in a stool and watched the tv, he had his phone out. He just got off the phone as soon as a man entered the coffee place.
Out of curiousity, Anthony turned to have a look at this newcomer. He looked familiar, but couldn't pinpoint from where. Though he decided not to dive into this curiousity his, but just to watch the man. But after a while of this curiousity knawing at him, he couldn't take it anymore. He had to figure out who this man was. Getting up from the stool he was at, made his way over to where the newcomer was. "Do I know you?" he asked stupidly and a bit embarassed. He was afraid to be embarassed. He could of sworn he knew this man.

As Jason entered the Coffee Shop someone came up to him and asked him a rather stupid question. Jason just looked at the kid and shook his head. "Sorry, kid I don't know you" Jason said in a warm tone. He said as he brushed passed the kid and order his drink.
He waited for his drink and got it. He then took a sit and leaned back in the chair watching the celebration on the television that was in the little coffee shop that he decided to visit.

And of course, Anthony was shot down. The man didnt remember him, but he still looked so damn familiar to him. As the numbness of embarassment ran through Anthony's blood, he took a seat back in his spot. He began to think hard.
And then it came to him. Katie had resently shown new pictures of the family. Christmas pictures. And thats where he saw him. He was Katie's brother. He smiled. He finally remembered who this man was. He was Jason Moore. He made his way over to the seat in which Jason was sitting. "Your Katie's brother aren't you?" he asked. He put all his hope into this, he was so sure that he was.

Jason was just minding his own business when the kid that asked him if he knew him came back up to him. This kid wanted to get hurt didn’t he? Jason thought to himself. He looked at the kid and his eyes widen when the kid mentioned his little sister.
“Yes, I’m Katie’s brother” He said in an annoyed voice, “What’s it to ya?” He asked as he placed his hands under the table. He was going to shock this kid if he had hurt his sister or was going to hurt him. He just raised an eyebrow waiting for this kid’s response.

Good he thought to himself. It was her brother. "I am just a friend of hers." he said with a smile. "She has been talking so much about you guys. You and William. She loves you guys." he continued. Then a lade approached him and handed him his order. He smiled handing her two dollars for tip. Anthony didn't care if this place didn't take tip. But they deserved it.
"May I sit here?" he asked.

Jason gave out a rare smile as the kid said that he was a friend of Katie’s. He knew Katie had a lot of friends and wasn’t sure when he was going to met them all. “Really?” He asked in a surprised voice “And yet I always thought she hated me” He said in an honest opinion.
He took his hands from out of under the table. This kid wasn’t worth getting shocked over. He thought to himself. Katie would get mad at him and he didn’t want to upset his sister “Sure have a sit” He said with an wide smile.

"Yeah, really." he said with a smile. Taking a seat in the open seat across from Jason. "Thanks." he continued, but ended with a long pause. He took a sip from his drink as the moment of silence grew, the akward silence. "So your a marine, right?" he asked. He really didn't know Jason that much. But he knew that he should, for Katie's sake

Jason watched the kid before him that he offered a seat finally sit himself. "No problem" He said with a slight nod as he drank his coffee. This was kind of awkward. He wondered why this kid wanted to talk to him.
He then raised an eyebrow. "Actually, the lazy branch of the service, the United States Air Force, but I have seen combat more than friends, I was assigned as a medic for an Army unit." He said with a slight nod as he drank his coffee again. "So tell me about yourself"

Anthony couldn't help but laugh at Jason's comment about the Air Force. He, of course, was right. No American citizen ever heard anything about the Air Force on the news. Either they didn't do shit. Or it was top secret. Classified But of course that was none of his business.
"Well, of course, I am a friend of Katie's. I run a local hardware store, thats actually across the street from here. I have a brother, Sam. He's the geek of the family." he finished with a laugh.
He didn't want to say to much, knowing that probably Katie had already told him so much about him. "You?" he asked.

Jason knew that it was true. No one in America cared for the Air Force. The only other branches that got the most news was: The Marines, Navy, and Army. It just didn't seem fair, but he didn't care.
"Interesting, you run a local hardware store" He said a bit sarcastically. What was this kid trying to prove? He wondered to himself as he gave a slight smile.
"Hm...well, let's see. I'm a Air Force Lieutnant, I double majored in Biology and Aerophysics" He began "And sometimes when I'm not in the field, I fly copters"

Anthony was shocked that Jason flew helicopters. Katie never told him that. He loved helicopters, he hoped one day he would ride one. “That’s pretty cool that you can pilot helicopters.” he smiled.
“Can I tell you something a little personal?” he asked. He grabbed his coke and took a sip through the straw, which was already wrangled because he chewed on it. This was a sign of nervousness.

"Yeah, it is" He said with a smile as he took a sip of his drink. As he thought about his life flying and helping people. It was what he was destined to do.
Jason raised an eyebrow as Anthony wanted to ask him something personal. He hoped it wasn't anything awkward. He hated awkwardness. It just didn't seem right. He bit down on his lower lip, "About what?" He asked in a nice tone.

Anthony breathed out as he thought of the way to tell Jason. "Okay here goes." he began. "I am in love with you sister Katie." he said scared about what could happen. He then began to wish that he didn't even say what he just said. He wished he could rewind time and choose to ignore Jason. But he couldn't he had to deal with what he started.

Jason raised an eyebrow as he couldn’t believe what he was hearing. This kid – liked his baby sister. He was supposed to be angry, but he couldn’t bear with himself to be angry at a kid. “So you’re in love with my sister?” He asked in a soft tone, “And you want my blessing or something?” He asked in a kind tone.
