Olivia smiled when Evelyn said she found everything she said interesting too. “Trying to distract me now?” Olivia joked, before going on to ask about Evelyn’s parents. She nodded when Evelyn basically dismissed her suggestion. What Evelyn said made sense if they really were as ‘bad’ as Evelyn had said they were. But from anything that Evelyn had told Olivia about her parents, Olivia could only see that they obviously loved her and cared a whole lot about her. To Olivia, that seemed like they would be willing to accept that she was happy, at least over time anyway.
When Evelyn said that it would take a miracle for her parents to see homosexuality as anything other than evil though Olivia sighed, guessing that maybe Evelyn was right. “I know you would know your parents a lot more than I would. I have never met them. I was just suggesting.” Was all Olivia said after Evelyn said she wanted to keep her parents out of things. Really she wanted to argue about how it probably would not be the best idea to do that.
Inside the car the conversation was no longer causing any tension, it was just about the music. Olivia didn’t need to look at Evelyn to know that she was teasing her. Other than the fact that music was left alone, she could tell from the tone of Evelyn’s voice. It was true; Olivia was confused by why Evelyn asked about the album. Usually she would not be paying too much attention or caring about the music. Then she wondered what difference it made that the song was from the latest album. It still was Reba. Evelyn’s reason though made sense, although Olivia had forgotten than she had not minded some of the songs. “Okay. You did? Do you remember which ones?” Olivia doubted that Evelyn would, but it would be interesting if she did.
While she changed, Olivia wondered what Evelyn would think of the obvious fact that Olivia had been cleaning excessively. If she presumed that it was because of her, she would be partially correct. Yet Olivia would not want to tell her that, so she also hoped Evelyn would not ask. There were other reasons too, but if she asked; not telling Evelyn that one fact would not be the best way to start this. It was better to start things off with truths, than to have to continually cover up a lie. When she went back out she watched as Evelyn appeared to examine her, wondering why. She did not have to question it though, as Evelyn commented on how she was no longer in her uniform. “Some things will never change.” Olivia responded as she sat on the lounge next to Evelyn.
Of course Evelyn had to ask the one question Olivia did not want to answer. She had gotten out of answering it properly at the cafe. Evelyn was right about that, and she was right about the cleaning. Of all the things she could have remembered about Olivia she had to remember that she cleaned to distract her mind from things that could eat her inside and so she did not just fall apart. Glancing away, Olivia tried not to notice the clean room around her, wishing she could not answer Evelyn. Closing her eyes she responded though. “Sometimes it gets too hard to pretend that everything is okay. Easier to clean than fall apart wondering what went wrong and why you left. Easier to clean that face the one thing that haunts me. Literally.” Her response may have been cryptic, but Olivia did not open her eyes or look back at Evelyn. All Evelyn would have to do to understand is remember.

Evelyn had just said that she thought everything Olivia said was interesting too because she was trying to be sweet. But when Olivia asked if she was trying to distract her she realised that maybe she actually had been. The conversation wasn’t exactly heading in a direction she liked or was comfortable with. “Maybe” She mumbled before Olivia asked her about her parents. She watched Olivia nodding with her own response, before responding herself once Evelyn stopped talking. She had no idea how to respond to what Olivia said though so all she said was; “I know.” It was now that they reached Olivia’s car, where the conversation came to an end.
The conversation about the music may have been a subject changer or just a way to remove the tension that seemed to be building between them. Evelyn knew that eventually Olivia was going to want to continue the earlier conversation though. It was a conversation that could most likely turn into an argument, but was important. Especially if they wanted to start things back over again or where they left off. Yet until then Evelyn was happy to just sit there discussing music she had never fully liked, & that she hadn’t been able to listen to without hurting inside. Of course it hadn’t been often over the three months that she had been exposed to it anyway.
When Olivia asked Evelyn if she remembered which songs she hadn’t really minded Evelyn laughed. “I don’t have that good of a memory. This one was one of them though.” Evelyn could only remember that another one that wasn’t too bad had something to do with leaving or being gone in the title. Because of that reason she didn’t mention it, not wanting to hurt Olivia with a reminder of the fact that she had left. Plus it seemed a little odd to say she liked a song that had something to do with leaving. “I probably would know them if I heard them. Does is matter though?” Evelyn said as she saw they were now close to Olivia’s apartment building.
Inside Olivia’s apartment Evelyn sat waiting for Olivia to return, commenting first on Olivia’s change of clothes when she did. When Olivia responded that some things never changed Evelyn just nodded, thinking how that applied to the apartment too. However she had just been teasing Olivia, trying to keep the tension from returning. Evelyn hadn’t known what to expect when she queried about the reason behind the cleaning. She had been presuming that she was the reason behind it, while also hoping that it was something else. When Olivia away Evelyn knew that she had to be right though. Why else would Olivia feel the need to look away, as if she was ashamed to admit to Evelyn that she had been hurting over the one thing for the past three months? Olivia’s response was slightly cryptic, it made Evelyn think before she could respond. The first part was proof that things weren’t ok for Olivia. The next showed that Evelyn was right about it being about her leaving. The last was harder to understand, possibly because Evelyn hadn’t been thinking about what other reasons it could have been; just hoping that it had been something other than her.
“What haunts you?” Evelyn had to ask, unable to completely work out what Olivia meant. She could guess that it was something to do with Olivia’s past or maybe ghosts; it even could have been both. But she didn’t want to take the risk of brining up those things if that wasn’t what Olivia meant. Evelyn could remember that Olivia could get both upset & defensive at the mention of her father & past. There was no way she would want to cause that if she could prevent it. At least if Evelyn was right, the thoughts would have already been in Olivia’s head so Evelyn wouldn’t end up feeling as bad about it. “I hope you believe me when I say I’m not leaving again, & it really had nothing to do with you. It was all over fears.” Evelyn said in response to the first things Olivia had said.

As Olivia had expected, Evelyn had not been able to recall which songs she didn’t mind. Shaking her head at Evelyn Olivia responded; “Well you could always look through the songs on there to see if you can find them.” If Evelyn had liked But Why though she had probably liked the other songs like that on the album - Consider Me Gone, I Keep on Lovin’ you, Over You, and Eight Crazy Hours (In The Story of Love). Although really it could have been any of the songs, Olivia was just guessing which ones they would be. “True. I guess it really does not matter.” Olivia responded when Evelyn asked if it mattered which songs they were.
Olivia could not remember feeling do lost in her own apartment before. It was not until she let Evelyn in that she saw just how bad it had gotten. Sure she had known that she had been cleaning things that did not need to be cleaned, but she had not realised just how unlived in it really seemed to be. That had not stopped her hoping that Evelyn would not notice, or at least would not ask. But of course Evelyn had asked; she cared about Olivia so it made sense that she would though. After Olivia’s cryptic explanation, Evelyn was quiet. It then occurred to Olivia that maybe what she had said had not made sense. Maybe Evelyn could not remember every little detail about her. Although they had been friends for a number of years, so surely Evelyn would remember things that she had known about Olivia long before they started dating. But then Evelyn did respond, but what she said didn’t answer the questions in Olivia’s mind. Before Olivia could begin to explain what haunted her Evelyn continued saying that she was not going to leave again.
After a second or two Olivia turned back to face Evelyn, meeting her eyes for a second, before looking at the wall behind her. “I believe you are not leaving again and that it has nothing to do with me. It was just at the time I had no idea of anything.” Glancing back at Evelyn Olivia forced herself to smile a little at her, to reassure Evelyn that she meant what she said and was fine - mostly - now. “It had been three months, but I guess you could say I just could not get you out of my head.” Olivia answered truthfully, hopefully in a way that would not hurt or upset Evelyn.
It was now that Olivia had to go on to explain what haunted her. She wished she could do it without thinking about it, or hearing the words. This time she kept eye-contact with Evelyn as she spoke, although it would most likely reveal how painful the subject was. “You know my past. It likes to resurface when I most want it to stay away. Dreams or just thoughts running through my brain haunt me, so I clean to make it go away.” Olivia shrugged as she mentioned how she cleaned to make it go away. “Of course it would be helpful if I was not actually physically haunted by my past.” Olivia said; referring to the ghost who she was positive was her father. “It would be nice if he could go find some new toy to torment, as I am tired of feeling his presence.” Olivia shook her head, trying to stop any memories of what her father did to her from resurfacing. “One thing I have noticed is that you seem to have made it go away. I knew he was here this morning, but now he is not. Although he was not at the cafe all day either, so maybe I am wrong.” Olivia said randomly, pretty sure she was just talking to stop herself from thinking - or falling apart for that matter.
After they had finished discussing how Olivia was and why she had been cleaning excessively, Olivia got up to make herself a coffee. She knew what really needed to be talked about before things went too far was the situation that Evelyn’s parents had caused. Sure Olivia had said she believed Evelyn when she had said she was not going to leave again, but there was still some concern that just maybe things could take a bad turn and Evelyn would leave again. It was one thing if Evelyn chose to go because of something Olivia did; it was another thing entirely if she just left because of her fear of her parents thoughts - again. Olivia had no idea how to start such a conversation though. She could not just come out and say that she thought Evelyn should tell her parents. It was not right for her to say such a thing, and it was up to Evelyn to make that decision - she did not need to feel pushed into something.
When Olivia returned with her coffee she sat back down next to Evelyn, bitting her lip slightly. She was still unsure on what the best way to say what she wanted to say was. “Tell me about your current situation with your parents.” Olivia finally decided to say, choosing a slow approach to get to the subject they would need to address.

After knowing Olivia for around six years, Evelyn could imagine what it was that had caused Olivia to clean so much. Well other than the pain Evelyn had caused by leaving. Having an abusive father, & a mother who may have well been not there had understandably left plenty of scars. Then having the type of abuse worsen over the years, it would make sense for Olivia’s past to be what she was talking about. But it was also those scars that caused Evelyn to question what was haunting Olivia instead of just presuming she knew the answer. During the past three years Evelyn had seen Olivia affected by her past on numerous occasions, & had even been the reason behind Olivia’s flashbacks. She knew the risks, & cared more than enough to not want to put Olivia unnecessarily through that pain. Evelyn couldn’t read minds, so she had no way of knowing if it actually was Olivia’s past or not, so it was best to just get Olivia to explain what was haunting her.
When Olivia went to reply, she turned back to face Evelyn; but only for a second. Evelyn bit her lip wondering how she could comfort her possible girlfriend without knowing exactly what was wrong. Evelyn nodded when Olivia said she believed her, retuning the smile - although Evelyn didn’t think hers was as forced as Olivia’s. Her smile became a sad smile when Olivia continued to speak though. “I’m sorry. If it makes you feel any better you were often in my mind too.” Evelyn responded quietly, taking one of Olivia’s hands. She hoped that her touch would comfort Olivia & make her open up & tell her what was haunting her.
Really though, Evelyn would never know if Olivia started to tell her because of the comfort, or she had been planning on doing it anyway. The comfort couldn’t have hurt though, & it was all Evelyn could think of doing while not knowing what it was that haunted Olivia. Evelyn would have known the pain Olivia was in just bringing the subject up, even if she couldn’t see it in her eyes. Sure Olivia tried to shrug off her explanation, as if it all was nothing; but Evelyn could see the truth, the pain was there in her eyes. “Liv...” Evelyn went to speak but stopped when Olivia kept talking, allowing her to explain how she was physically haunted. As soon as Olivia confirmed that it as her past haunting her though, Evelyn had presumed she had also been referring to her ghost when she had said she was being literally haunted.
Evelyn watched as Olivia struggled over her words, probably still talking to stop herself from actually thinking. “It’s ok Liv. Nothing will hurt you.” Using the hand that wasn’t already holding one of Olivia’s, Evelyn stroked Olivia’s arm, leaving her hand on the hand she had already been holding. She wished she could do more, wished she could make the ghost go away. She had tried once, but it hadn’t worked. Instead she just got Olivia to try clear her mind, in a way that was what had started Olivia’s more excessive cleaning anyway. It had made Evelyn feel better to know that at least for today the ghost had been leaving Olivia alone, but she doubted she was the reason behind that. “I know you’re tired of the ghost being there. I wish I could help with that.” Evelyn admitted out loud.
When Olivia got up, Evelyn watched her as she went to make what probably could have been at least her tenth coffee for the day. “You do know the caffeine will do nothing for your nerves.” Evelyn commented, saying something she had said before & that she knew Olivia knew. Evelyn knew that nothing would make Olivia stop drinking the coffee, but it never hurt to remind Olivia of the fact that she should at least limit the amount she drank.
Now that Evelyn knew how Olivia was & why she had been cleaning, Evelyn wondered what the conversation would go to. She knew it was possible that Olivia would return to the earlier conversation, but she hoped that it wouldn’t. But really there was probably only a 5% chance of Evelyn actually getting that wish. When Olivia sat back down, she asked about Evelyn’s parents, which was possibly a way to return the conversation to the earlier one. With a sigh, Evelyn shook her head. “What can I say? They are still living near me, & they visit often & unexpectedly. Actually they probably will call me soon trying to find out where I am since they normally call me every night now, & there would be no answer at my apartment. They’re overprotective, but have dropped hints that I should get out more, met people & things like that. But I’m sure they would have a problem if I told them I did what they wanted.” Evelyn knew she was babbling, so she just stopped talking. She had no idea if she had answered Olivia’s question or not as she hadn’t paid complete attention to what she had been saying. She was just talking.

Evelyn’s words were somehow a comfort, though she had probably just said something because she felt the need to do something. Just the knowledge that she had not been the only one who had been hurt during the past three months was comforting. “Yes, it does.” When Evelyn took one of Olivia’s hands, she involuntarily flinched slightly. Mainly because she had not been expecting it, but it was also a mixture of the thoughts she was trying not to have that caused that reaction. “Sorry.” Olivia mumbled, smiling sadly at Evelyn, wishing she would never feel jumpy like this again. She hated when it was only Evelyn yet her mind took over causing her to react with fear. Even after the three months, Olivia still loved Evelyn and had no real reason to be afraid or jumpy in her presence.
Sure Evelyn had started to talk, but still Olivia had kept talking, explaining in minimal detail what she had meant - what had been haunting her. Continuing to talk was a lot safer than thinking or remembering though. Doing either of the later two would only cause more reactions like her earlier one when Evelyn had first touched her hand. Evelyn probably had worked out all the details, she seemed to have understood, yet still Olivia had explained it. Really if she was thinking it, what difference would it make continuing to explain though? Better to make sure Evelyn understood completely. Better to make sure that she did not fall apart. Better to continue talking than just sit thinking.
The comforting was minimal, but still effective. Olivia smiled at both Evelyn’s words and actions. By now Evelyn would know that little would actually sooth or calm Olivia’s nerves or fears, so really there was little point in trying too hard. “I know.” Olivia said, although she was not too sure if she believed that nothing would hurt her. Olivia placed her free hand on top of Evelyn’s top hand, basically adding the remaining hand to a tower of hands. It was her way of saying thank you for the comfort, and acknowledging it without actually talking. Though she had gone on a bit before, Olivia now did not know what to say. “Thank you.” was all she managed when Evelyn said she wished she could get rid of her ghost, well that and a weak smile. Her words were quiet though, barely a whisper even.
One good way to calm her nerves - surprisingly - was coffee, which was one of the reasons why Olivia then got up. Evelyn’s hands feel out from between hers easily, despite the bottom one being held. Olivia did not explain her actions, and Evelyn had not asked. Olivia presumed she was just predictable. In fact Evelyn probably had even made up a number in her head of how many coffees Olivia was up to. That was something Evelyn had seemed to like to keep track of just to annoyingly, yet still lovingly, look out for Olivia. In truth though it would actually only be her third, as she could not actually drink the coffee she worked with continuously. When Evelyn commented about the coffee doing nothing for Olivia’s nerves Olivia smiled shaking her head without turning back to look at Evelyn. “My drinking coffee seems to do a lot for my nerves, and there are benefits from drinking coffee. You just worry too much.”
It seemed that when Olivia questioned about Evelyn’s parents she had triggered something that caused Evelyn to go on a little. Maybe when you are talking about a subject you do not like much it is easy to babble on about nothing in particular, while still providing some information. When Evelyn just came to a stop suddenly Olivia responded to what she had said. “Of course there is no answer at your apartment, unless there is something about your life now that you should tell me about.” Olivia took a sip of her coffee wondering how best to respond to the reference of their relationship. “So tell them I am your friend, it is not like that is a lie. I highly doubt they will want to know every single thing about me including my sexuality, so therefore they will not guess what you are or who I really I am.” Olivia said, but wondered if maybe she was wrong and they would want to know every single detail about her. If Evelyn started spending a lot of her time around Olivia they might just start to want to know more about her though. “I mean what more would they want to know about me other than my name, my relationship with you, and how I know you?”

Evelyn pretended not to notice when Olivia flinched at her first touch. It was understandable for Olivia to be slightly jumpy, & it wasn’t the first - & most likely not the last - time it had happened. When Olivia apologised Evelyn shook her head. “Don’t be.” Evelyn told her to reassure Olivia that it was fine, & show she didn’t care about Olivia being slightly jumpy. Evelyn presumed that really Olivia wasn’t jumpy because of her; it most likely was due to whatever was going on in her head right now.
Just looking in Olivia’s eyes, Evelyn could see that she was internally conflicted. It was like war going on in her head, turning Olivia’s eyes dark & cold with fear, & possibly confusing. She probably was over processing & thinking about her actions, instead of what she was saying. That could possibly be a good thing though since it wasn’t like Olivia’s past would be a nice thing for her to start thinking about. Yet that thought didn’t make Evelyn feel any better about what she saw. Olivia’s words also couldn’t be trusted. It’s not like Evelyn could tell if Olivia was lying or not; Olivia was far closer to being a psychic than her; she just could see the conflict in Olivia’s eyes. Evelyn had learned over the years to read Olivia’s emotions, & had learned rather quickly that her eyes revealed the most truth about how she felt. However despite what Evelyn may have thought, she didn’t try comfort or reassure Olivia more; she just accepted Olivia’s ‘I know’.
It had gone quiet for a few seconds, maybe even a minute. Yet there was still communication occurring. A casual observer may not have known that Olivia placing her hand on Evelyn’s actually meant something other than love or her caring about Evelyn. But Evelyn knew that there was more than that to it. It was a thank you & an acknowledgement. Of course the casual observer would also not suspect that Evelyn was also attempting to read the emotions she could see in Olivia’s eyes, let alone that it was in those eyes that Evelyn also found what the hand gesture had meant. “You’re welcome.” Evelyn whispered, barely audible. It was then that Evelyn commented about how she wished she could help remove the ghost. Olivia’s response was weak, but still a response. That fact made Evelyn smile. At least Olivia was still talking.
Of course Evelyn didn’t question why Olivia got up; she even allowed Olivia’s hands to easily slip away from her own. She knew Olivia well enough to know she liked her coffee, & that she used it to calm herself. It just made sense that Olivia would want one. Although she also wouldn’t put it past Olivia to want to move far away from Evelyn; just because she had been thinking too much that she now was in fear & didn’t want to upset or hurt Evelyn by her jumpy reactions. Evelyn sighed at Olivia’s response about the coffee. “Not with the amount you drink. The only benefits you receive are increased anxiety & insomnia. I’m sorry that I don’t find either of those things positive things.” She responded, almost tempted to add irritability, but thought better of it since it probably was too soon to start ‘irritating’ Olivia too much by picking on her too much. Sure Evelyn really did it out of love, but it still probably wasn’t the best time just yet.
Evelyn had half expected her phone to go off when she had mentioned it, but it hadn’t. Olivia’s response to Evelyn saying there would be no answer in her apartment made Evelyn laugh. “Yes well I probably should mention the invisible woman I have living there now. She has to be invisible; otherwise my parents might find her.” Evelyn joked, shaking her head in actual response. In the past 3 months Evelyn hadn’t dated or thought about dating anyone. She had only had hints dropped by her mother that she should be out dating people. In truth Olivia was the only person Evelyn had dated in about 16 years, other than a few ‘first dates’ she had had while trying to deny her feelings for the same sex. Which could have been another reason why her mother continued to insist that Evelyn should go out & meet people, & date people; or men to be more specific, since Olivia wouldn’t be exactly what Evelyn’s mother had in mind.
It took a second for Evelyn to remember what she had said in order to understand what Olivia meant by just telling her parents they were friends. “I would feel bad lying to them, but I can’t tell them the truth.” Evelyn spoke her thoughts out loud, before actually responding to what Olivia said. “Sure you could just be my friend. You are right they wouldn’t even think to question your sexuality, let alone ask about that. Your name & part of our relationship, how we met & know each other would be all they should want.” Evelyn said ‘part of our relationship’ to unnecessarily clarify what her parents needed to know. She knew that Olivia would have meant their friendship, not relationship.
When her phone rang, Evelyn rolled her eyes, reaching for her bag which she had placed on the table to fish out her phone. “Like I said, they like to check up on me daily.” Evelyn had no idea what she was going to say to explain where she was, but she hoped that the phone call would be over with quickly. “Hey.” Evelyn said; then listened as her mother went on about how she was glad she found her & asked where she was. “I’m with a friend; can’t I call you back later?” Evelyn knew she would sound impatient to her mother, but didn’t care as she really didn’t want to explain anything until Olivia & her finished discussing what they were going to do. “Yes actually. Love you, good bye.” Evelyn said, answering a question her mother had asked about if the friend was a dateable friend; before hanging up & putting her phone & bag back. “Sorry about that.” Evelyn returned her attention back to Olivia.

Evelyn’s reassurance did not completely reassure Olivia. She still felt bad every time she became jumpy in Evelyn’s presence, no matter how many times Evelyn told her not to be or that it was fine. You would think after all this time that it would no longer happen, but it still did. You could not even blame the three months apart for it. What was even worse was that it not only was not the first time, but it also would most likely not be the last time it happened either. Olivia knew Evelyn was watching her every move, and most likely analysing whatever truths her eyes were revealing. But she never commented; she was used to it. Sometimes it seemed they could have a silent conversation because of it.
Of course Evelyn had a response to Olivia commenting on coffee having benefits. “Sorry, I guess I picked the wrong benefits then. But I do not see how you can blame coffee for either of those things. If you said irritability, then maybe, but even that I still would not hold coffee entirely responsible.” Olivia agreed with Evelyn that they were not positive things, but she never said that. She also believed that coffee was not entirely to blame, which was another reason she felt that drinking it could not be doing her any harm. Sure it may not be completely helping, but it was nice and it was comforting.
When Olivia had said that of course there was no response at Evelyn’s apartment, she had not expected a response. She found it interesting that Evelyn had chosen to say invisible woman, but made no reference to it. Somehow Olivia figured she would be more jealous of a fictional invisible woman than man, though she was not sure why. In truth she would not be able to say what Evelyn sexuality was, that just never was important. It still was not either; all that mattered was she was back and she loved her. “You never know, there may be an invisible woman living there. Except I would have more luck in getting anywhere with her since she at least would not be invisible to me.” Olivia joked in response, referring to the fact that there could be a ghost in Evelyn’s apartment for all Evelyn knew.
“Too bad not talking to them is not an option then.” Olivia could not stop herself from mumbling when Evelyn said she could not lie or tell the truth. She knew she probably should not have said it, but it had just come out. In some ways Evelyn had already tried that, and it clearly had not gotten them anywhere. Olivia glared at Evelyn when she unnecessarily clarified what they could say to her parents. “That is what I meant, since telling them about our real relationship would defeat the purpose of this discussion.” Although the purpose of this discussion for Olivia would preferably be to convince Evelyn to tell her parents, she knew that would not happen. She also was not going to push Evelyn into doing something like that.
Olivia had never had parents to tell, not really anyway, just her old boss and Nancy. Sure Nancy’s mother had been like a mother to her, but that was a lot different since Olivia’s sexuality made no difference to them as it really did not affect them. Despite not having had parents to tell, she could understand how hard it would be. It was hard enough to just tell friends, family had to be a lot worse. On the other hand though, Olivia could not help but feel that Evelyn’s parents would be fine with it as long as Evelyn was happy. She had no idea where that thought came from or why she thought it, but it just seemed to her to be something that would be true.
Shaking her head, Olivia tried not to listen to Evelyn’s conversation with presumably one of her parents. That did not mean she did not hear what was said. It was not like there was anything for Olivia to do other than drink her coffee, and that was not exactly the most effective way to occupy her mind. But then since she could only hear one side of the conversation, what Evelyn was saying made little sense to Olivia anyway. “You cannot control your parents or when they will call.” Olivia said when Evelyn apologised unnecessarily.
Placing her coffee on the table, Olivia turned to face Evelyn before speaking. “It is up to you what you choose to do, but how long is telling them I am just your friend going to last? I know I cannot speak for you, but I personally would want to spend time with you. And the more time we spend with each other, the more questions your parents will have. Then if you consider the fact that we said we would try start things back where we left off, that could mean us living together. Or at least that could happen again in the future. You have to take what your parents will respond to that into consideration too.” Olivia knew what she said would be a bit to take in, but when she had started talking it all just had come out. It was all true, and really she had not wanted to stop. Now that it was out there, she was glad she said it, although she had no idea what Evelyn’s response would be. Her words may not have been the most understanding or helpful right now.

Evelyn should have known that Olivia would have her own response when Evelyn commented on the ‘benefits’ Olivia was receiving from coffee. “You can pick benefits? When did the coffee ask you what benefits you wanted to receive? Although I thought you could talk to ghosts not coffee.” Evelyn teased, despite her previous thoughts about limiting the amount of teasing she did for now. It just came naturally to return to doing what they used to do before Evelyn had left. “And I was never holding the coffee entirely responsible. I know we can blame me for your irritability, or at least my teasing anyway.” Evelyn was agreeing with Olivia that the coffee was not the only thing responsible for her anxiety & insomnia. She also knew that she wasn’t the reason that Olivia had been referring to when she mentioned irritability, but she wasn’t lying about her being a nuisance at times.
Of course Evelyn wasn’t the only one who liked to tease; a fact which was proven when Olivia responded to Evelyn’s joke about there being an invisible woman living in her apartment. “You know I really don’t want to think about whether or not me or my apartment are being haunted. Thank you so much for kindly putting those thoughts in my head.” Evelyn shook her head, wondering how she was going to be able to sleep that night now that the idea that there could be ghosts in her apartment was in her head. Although really she had known that was a possibility before Olivia had mentioned it, it just hadn’t been something she had thought about. Unlike Olivia, ghosts weren’t things that were really on Evelyn’s mind often.
Evelyn bit her lip when Olivia mumbled too bad not telling her parents wasn’t an option. Hadn’t that been what they had been doing for the whole time they had been dating though? Clearly that hadn’t worked out too well since Evelyn’s parents had moved to Houston. But she didn’t say anything in response to it. She hadn’t meant to upset Olivia by clarifying what they could say to her parents, but it was clear that she had at least annoyed her since she had become slightly defensive. “I knew what you meant. Sorry.” Evelyn wondered what Olivia meant by the ‘purpose of this discussion’. Evelyn wasn’t completely sure what that was. It could just be a discussion about their current situation, but it also could be Olivia trying to convince Evelyn to tell her parents. Evelyn knew she had to do it too; she just had no idea how to do that.
Her parents had their annoying ways of checking up on her; the phone call being one of them. Evelyn wasn’t sure what she was apologising for, the interruption to their conversation, or just the fact that her parents were annoying. Evelyn laughed when Olivia said she couldn’t control her parents. “If I could, that would make things a whole lot easier.” Evelyn responded, thinking about how much easier it would be to get them to accept her sexuality & her relationship with Olivia if she could control how they would react. Of course that would never happen though, as the only way that could be possible would be if Evelyn found some spell that would make them just accept things & be happy about it. But Evelyn wasn’t about to use magic on her parents, that wouldn’t be right.
When Olivia placed her coffee down, Evelyn took one of Olivia’s hands again. She listened to what Olivia said without saying a word. Evelyn knew that Olivia was right, but she also had no idea what she could say or do in response. Sure her parents would have questions, but they wouldn’t guess or question just what her relationship with Olivia was. Really all she would expect from them is for them to suggest she spent less time with a friend & more time looking for a boyfriend. No matter how many times she told them she wasn’t interested in dating anyone, they would still insist that she should be dating. She knew they wanted a whole lot more from her than they would ever get, she also knew they were just looking out for her. However it really all was just annoying.
A minute or maybe more passed without Evelyn saying anything. What Olivia said had her cornered, she knew Olivia was right, but she also knew she had agreements or could come up with some too. However Evelyn also didn’t really want to fight with Olivia over this. It was all slightly confusing, & a bit too much for Evelyn to deal with. Not right now anyway. “I’m sorry Olivia, I just can’t. Can’t we just take things slowly & cross each bridge as we get to them?” Evelyn had no idea what it was she was responding to when she said she just couldn’t, but it was all she could think of saying. “Why don’t you work on trusting me again, & leave dealing with my parents to me?”

Why they were talking about the coffee? Who really knew, but it was nice and it felt natural. “The coffee asked me shortly after it told me I really should tell you to shut up or learn to think before I speak since you like to twist my words.” Olivia sighed, shaking her head at Evelyn. “Anyway, I see ghosts, not speak to them. I have little interest in seeing if I can have conversations with them too.” Olivia knew Evelyn had just been kidding around, but she just felt like correcting her. She was not trying to be mean or anything, she was enjoying the fact that Evelyn was back and was teasing her again too much to really be annoyed at her. “That and other things.” Olivia agreed when Evelyn commented that they could blame Evelyn for Olivia’s irritability.
“Are you sure those were the disturbing thoughts?” Olivia questioned whether Evelyn really was disturbed by the idea of there being ghosts in her apartment or the idea of Olivia having a relationship with one. As far as Olivia knew Evelyn did not really have a problem with ghosts, well other than the one that followed Olivia. “I am pretty sure you are not haunted though as I have not seen or sensed any ghosts around. I cannot say about your apartment though.” Olivia added as a reassurance in case the idea really had freaked Evelyn out.
Olivia saw Evelyn bite her lip after Olivia mumbled that it was too bad not talking to them was an option, but nothing was said about it. Olivia was glad that Evelyn had not responded because as soon as the words had come out of her mouth she had regretted them. It had been a case of her saying her thoughts out loud. They were stupid thoughts too since they really had tried that already, and the only place it had gotten them was broken up and not speaking or seeing each other. Olivia really did not want that to happen again so they would have to find another way, a way which hopefully would work.
She had never meant to seem defensive when Olivia said that telling Evelyn’s parents about their friendship not relationship was what she meant. But when Evelyn apologised Olivia presumed that she must have sounded that way. “It is okay, I am sorry too. I did not mean to sound defensive or anything.” Olivia said, apologising too.
It seemed they were doing a lot of apologising today too. Evelyn had done it unnecessarily after the phone call interrupted them. But when Olivia said that Evelyn could not control her parents, the only response she got was of how Evelyn wished she could. “Yes it would make things easier, but where is the fun in that? Life sadly is never easy and nice.” Olivia said dryly, also wishing they could take the easy way out and make things a whole lot better. But she also knew that even Evelyn’s spells would not allow that, even if she were to start messing with dark magic. Olivia also knew Evelyn was too nice to ever try use magic to solve her problems, which meant she would never cast a spell on her parents.
Olivia had known that what she had said would be a bit for Evelyn to take in, but she had been hoping for more of a response from her. Instead it seemed she had more freaked her out, causing her to pull away. Although physically she remained seated still, and was even holding Olivia’s hand; mentally Evelyn was probably running - at least from Olivia’s words. Despite everything inside Olivia’s mind that wanted to argue with Evelyn, and to try making Evelyn see she was better off telling her parents - that is not what she did. “Okay we can cross each bridge when we get to them.” ‘Until we drown’ Olivia silently thought of an ending to her spoken sentence. She would never say it though, just because she could not see this working for them, did not mean she was not going to try. She loved Evelyn too much to give up too easily.
Evelyn’s next words confused Olivia though. “What do you mean work on trusting you again? Evelyn please believe me when I say I trust you.” Olivia could hear the fear in her voice, and knew that she was afraid of what exactly Evelyn meant. What was she not trusting? She trusted Evelyn was not going anywhere again and she trusted that she would not hurt her again. What else was there?

Evelyn had to roll her eyes when Olivia played along with her teasing, commenting that the coffee told her to tell Evelyn to shut up. She had no idea if it was a sign for her to stop teasing, or if Olivia was just playing along with it though. “Ok fine, you may see them & not speak to them, but I still doubt you talk to coffee.” Evelyn shook her head, although her words were more of an agreement, when Olivia corrected her about her seeing ghosts not speaking to them. Other unspeakable things… Evelyn thought when Olivia said that & other things about Evelyn irritating Olivia. She didn’t say it though, as they really were things best left unsaid.
When Olivia questioned what thoughts she really found disturbing, Evelyn smiled with a small amount of amusement from Olivia’s question. “Yes.” She partially lied. Truthfully Olivia was right in some ways, although Evelyn still didn’t like the idea of their being ghosts in her apartment. Although since Olivia had little interest in seeing if she can talk to ghosts, Evelyn doubted that she would have any interest in seeing if she could have a relationship with one either. She still didn’t like the thought of it either. Of course in reality though, it was most likely impossible for Olivia to have a relationship with one anyway. “That’s always good to know.” Evelyn smiled when Olivia said she didn’t think she was haunted. She wasn’t sure if she was responding to her not being haunted, or the reminder that there were no ghosts around, which meant that Olivia still wasn’t being haunted either.
Evelyn smiled when Olivia agreed with her, thankful that Olivia didn’t argue with her, trying to convince her that she needed to tell her parents. She probably also didn’t want to argue. When she heard the fear in Olivia’s voice, Evelyn realised that Olivia really had completely forgiven her – or at least enough to fully trust her again. She hadn’t thought that Olivia had, but she had been wrong. In her own state of fear, Evelyn stood up to leave. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry for leaving, & sorry for thinking you wouldn’t trust me. I’m glad you trust me again, & I promise that I will try to never hurt you again. I should probably just go now.” Evelyn turned to walk out. OOC: Last post, unless you want to reply. Although I didn't leave much to respond to, just wanted to finish this thread off like we agreed over the weekend .
