Friday 7th May, 2010 It had been a busy few weeks for Debbie since she had told William she had been feeling broody ever since she had heard about Libby’s accident and how she wanted to have a baby with William. She wasn’t sure how he would have reacted to it but thankfully after a brief moment of shock he seemed to really warm to the idea. By the time they had gotten round to making love Debbie was certain that William was really looking forward to becoming a daddy and had even said that he hoped she fell quite quickly for her own benefit as much as his. He had said that because Debbie had expressed how much she wanted to have a baby with him. William had spent plenty of nights with Debbie at her apartment and she had slept plenty of nights at his apartment as well and now it had been around ten weeks since Debbie and William had agreed to try for a baby. They had seen a doctor just to confirm how quickly she might be able to fall pregnant after coming off the pill and he had clarified what she already knew that it would be possible for her to fall as quickly as a few days after coming off of it although to expect that it may take a few weeks due to the fact she had been on the pill for a couple of years and it would be well and truly in her system but had then added that there would be no reason why Debbie couldn’t fall pregnant within a couple of weeks at the latest. Debbie had left with a smile on her face preparing herself to hopefully fall pregnant within the time scale the doctor had suggested. However with being so busy at the florist due to it being Mothering Sunday at the weekend and had been busy with many men and women ordering floral arrangements that she hadn’t had proper time to think over the past few weeks. With it being the Friday before Mother’s Day it was busier than ever and Debbie and Miles were rushed off their feet, in fact they could probably have done with another helping hand, but it seemed pointless to Debbie to hire another employee just for busy spells, their last one being over Valentine’s Day. Most of the arrangements which had been ordered weeks previous were already made up and waiting for collection between today and tomorrow but you always got the last minute men buying on behalf of their children and those were the ones which were taking over the florist today. Debbie was just about getting ready to serve another customer when she got a sharp pain in her stomach. She had been so busy that she hadn’t noticed that she hadn’t had a period in two months but when she had taken the odd pregnancy test just in case, it had turned up a negative result. However right now with the pain she was having in her stomach she could have sworn it could be the signs of having a miscarriage, but when she wasn’t even pregnant in the first place then how could that be possible? Miles came rushing over to her fussing like she knew he would because of him being gay and having an immense feminine side. “Are you alright Debs?” He asked and she got another pain making her double over again. “I don’t know Miles, just getting this massive pain in my stomach.” She said and then she went to stand up when yet another pain came shooting across her. “I’ll be back in a minute Miles; can you take care of the customer?” She asked and he nodded his head as he put a hand on the small of her back, “Of course I can sweetie.” Debbie then ran to the toilet in the back shop of the florist and as she pulled her underwear down she saw a some drops of blood and if she didn’t know any better she would have said that she had just started her period, but these pains weren’t like your average period cramps, they were severe and the blood was just sporadic spotting. Debbie had read enough information online about getting pregnant and it suddenly came rushing to her that maybe she had been pregnant all along and the tests hadn’t shown it up. She must be having a miscarriage. She just slumped to the floor and began to cry, she hadn’t wanted this, she wanted to be a mom so much, why was this happening to her now? How was she going to tell William that she was losing his baby that she didn’t even know she had been carrying? She slowly scrambled to her feet and made her way back out to the front shop and then whispered into Miles’ ear telling him what she had discovered. Straight away Miles got on the phone and contacted the emergency services and then he dialled William’s number from Debbie’s mobile and waited for him to answer. “William, it’s Debbie’s assistant Miles here, I’ve just phoned for an ambulance for Debbie I think if you aren’t too busy you should make your way to the shop as soon as possible to go with her, or if you don’t think you can make it here go right to the hospital. We’re too busy for me to go with her or I would.” He then gave Debbie back her mobile and turned to the customers, “I’m really sorry but we’re having a bit of a crisis, do you think you could all come back in half an hour so I know that my friend is safe, thanks.” They all nodded their heads and made their way out of the shop just leaving Debbie alone with Miles and once again she slumped to the ground as another pain came over her and all Miles could do was to join her and put his arms around her holding her tightly as Debbie continued to sob on Miles’ shoulder not believing that she was losing a baby she didn’t even know she was carrying.

William tapped his pen on the paper in front of him. His second last patient for the day has just left him, and he mind wandered from the notes he was supposed to take from the consult, to Debbie. Will loved her so much, and couldn't wait for her to tell him that she was pregnant. It had seemed like forever since she had brought up the fact that she wanted to have a baby. Will had been a little taken aback by the mention of it, but he soon loved the idea, and they had been having sex when they could, and be at each others apartments in order to try and give Debbie her dream.
Will smiled to himself, wondering how he was going to react when she finally did tell him. He had never been in this situation, despite his age, and had seen how some guys react, to know how not to react in that instance. As Will put pen to paper, he knew that Debbie had been busy at work, what with Mother's Day approaching. He then remembered that he was going to get a bunch of flowers for his sister, Katie, who was a new mum herself. Will made a mental note to drop around at Debbie's shop to get a small bunch, one that he was able to affort.
Within a few minutes, Will had gotten the short set of notes written up from the last consult, and placed it in a new folder. As he was about to write the new patient's name on the outside, his phone rang. Will had Debbie's shop number plugged into his phone, and he smiled when he saw the caller I.D. come up. He sat back in his chair, with the smile still on his face, and answered. "Hey Deb! How..." That was all Will got out, as he heard Miles' voice on the other end. He went to speak, but sat forward in his chair, hearing what Miles had to say. Once he was finished, Will replied, "No worries Miles. I will be in a few minutes."
Will didn't have to ask what the problem was, all he worried about was what was wrong with Debbie. He ran his hand through his hair, and instantly stood up, and walked out to the reception area. Walking over to the desk, he asked the woman if he could reschedule his last appointment. When she acknowledged this, he thanked her, and then headed outside, rummaging for his keys in his pocket. But then he stopped, shaking his head, knowing that there was no way that he would be able to get there fast in his car, walking would be faster this time.
Will started to walk fast, but then broke into a run, heading in the direction of Debbie's shop. It was only about five or so blocks away, and as he approached the shop, Will started to slow down, and stood at the door, wondering what he was going to walk into. He took a deep breath, letting it out, then pushed the door open with force. "Deb, hon?" Will could hear the panic in his voice now, trying to stop that, but it was only inevitable. As he approached the counter, he soon saw Debbie in Miles' arms. Will ran over, and crouched down to look at Debbie, putting his hands on her upper arms gently.
"Deb, what the hell happened? What... what happened?" That was all he could say, as he wrapped his arms around her. He looked at Miles, "Thanks for contacting me. Is the ambulance on it's way?"

Debbie couldn’t believe that she could have been pregnant, well why would she believe it when the tests she had taken on the off chance had came up as a negative result, but as Miles sat comforting her while waiting for the ambulance to arrive she started to think about things and realised that she hadn’t had a period for two months. How could she have missed the most notable sign that she could have been pregnant? And if she was indeed pregnant then why didn’t the tests she had taken come up as a positive result? She couldn’t understand it and the more she tried to understand the more upset she got. Miles realising that his friend was getting more upset began to gently squeeze at her shoulders with the arm he had around her hoping that he could calm her down because if what she told him was true getting upset like that surely wouldn’t do her any good would it?
Soon enough Debbie heard William’s voice and she began to get upset all over again just hearing that he was there. She was so upset when she first heard his voice she couldn’t really begin to say anything. Then she felt his hands on her upper arms and she began to look at him slowly but the tears were still flowing easily and she had a lump in her throat. She tried swallowing a few times to clear her throat so that she could talk to him and try to tell him what she felt was the problem. Then William’s arms were around her and he began to ask her again what the hell had happened. She took in a deep breath to compose herself enough to tell him when she heard William speak again but this time to Miles asking if the ambulance was on its way. Miles nodded his head, “Yeah Will it shouldn’t be too long until it’s here.” With that Miles got up off the floor knowing that he was leaving his friend in the capable hands of her lover.
As they waited for the ambulance to arrive Debbie knew she would have to tell William what she thought the problem was even though she still couldn’t quite believe that she had been pregnant at all. “Oh Will, I think...” She trailed off, what was he going to think that she didn’t even know she was pregnant when she was the one who had been so for it in the first place? She shook her head and rubbed at her eyes, being this upset wasn’t going to help her try to explain to William what the obvious problem was, well obvious to Debbie at least. “You have to believe me that I honestly didn’t know, any tests I took came up with negative results, but, but I think I might have been pregnant, and now I think I’m losing it. I got such a massive pain in my stomach before and when I excused myself to go to the toilet I saw some blood spotting. I know it’s not just my period Will I don’t get pains in my stomach like...” She trailed off as another pain came over and closed her eyes tightly doubling over with the pain again.
That was when the sirens of the ambulance could be heard and soon enough it had arrived and a couple of paramedics came into the shop. One of them bent down to where Debbie and William were. “Hi, I’m Paul, what seems to be the problem?” He asked as he looked from Debbie to William and then back to Debbie. Debbie knew that she was going to have to explain all over again what she felt the problem was. “I’m Debbie, I was working and got some massive pains in my stomach and when I excused myself to go to the toilet I saw some blood spotting. The pains aren’t just like my usual period pains, they are far more intense. I took tests and they came up as negative, but we have been trying for a baby and now I think I might have been pregnant and might be losing it.” Debbie explained in as calm a voice as she could even though she was shaking and was feeling devastated because she had wanted to have a baby so much.
Paul then looked at Debbie sympathetically, “Well I think it will be best to get you into the emergency room to determine that is indeed the problem. But first I’ll just take your blood pressure; it’s just something we have to do in cases like this.” He then brought out his electronic blood pressure machine and put the indicator onto Debbie’s index finger and switched the machine on. After a minute or two he gave Debbie a weak smile, “Well your blood pressure is normal which is good.” The other paramedic then approached, “Hi Debbie, I’m Shauna, I don’t think you should worry too much until we get you checked out, sometimes blood spotting doesn’t always mean you’re losing the baby. It will be better to get into the hospital and get some tests done to find out exactly what is going on.” Debbie just nodded her head feeling as if she was in a different world and couldn’t find her voice anymore. Shauna put her hands underneath one of Debbie’s arms, while Paul took the other and got her to her feet. They then proceeded to help her onto a wheelchair and began to take her into the back of the ambulance. Paul then turned to William, “Do you want to step into the back.” Once William was inside the ambulance along with Shauna, Paul went to the driver’s side and soon had them on their way to the hospital.
It didn’t take long for Paul to pull into the emergency grounds of the hospital and once the ambulance came to a stop, Paul stepped out and opened the doors and then pulled the ramp down so that Shauna could wheel Debbie out. Debbie then reached her hand out for William to take for reassurance to know that he was there more than anything else and then Shauna soon had her inside and began to check her in at the reception desk. Shauna then turned to the both of them, “A doctor will be here to see you shortly, and I hope everything is alright with you.” She gave Debbie’s shoulder a gentle squeeze and soon Debbie and William were on their own at the triage waiting for the doctor to come out.
Debbie then turned to William with tears in her eyes again, “I should have known when I didn’t have my period, I’m so, so sorry.” She then just put her head into her hands and continued to sob heavily once more.

William could see how much Debbie was so upset, and kept trying to think of reasons as to why she was upset. He asked her, but it was soon realised that Debbie was wanting to talk, but he couldn't blame her for not saying anything. Whatever was the matter he knew she would soon tell him. William soon found out from Miles that the abulance was on it's way, which made him nod his head in acknowledgement. He watched then as Miles moved away, and left them alone on the floor.
Will continued to comfort Debbie as much as he could, not wanting to continue to ask what was wrong. Debbie soon spoke, but only a couple of words escaped her lips, and Will shifted her in his arms, so that he could look at her. He watched as she shook her head, rubbing at her eyes. Will licked his lips a little, ready to hear what she had to say. For some reason, he could feel his heart beating a mile a minute, kind of feeling that something bad had really happened. As Debbie spoke, all Will could do was look in to Debbie's eyes. He blinked a few times, taking in what she was saying. How could the tests have been negative, if she might have been pregnant. It didn't make much sense to Will. Weren't the test supposed to be mostly accurate? Then he wondered why Debbie didn't say anything to him about it, and he might have suggested getting a check up with her doctor.
As she ended off the story of the whole thing, Will watched as she double over, as he could tell she was getting another pain. He tightened his grip around her, and then moved his arm at the back, moving his hand in a circular motion on her back, hoping it might help a little. Will then moved in closer to her, quietly talking to her, "Shh Deb. Whatever the hell is going on, I am sure that a doctor is going to help, okay." Will hoped that whatever was going on would be picked up, and explained to them. He then had a thought of maybe using his ability of healing, but then thought against it. He had no idea what his ability might do to the possible faetus inside Debbie, or even her for that matter. So he declined to tell her.
Soon enough Will heard the sirens from the ambulance, and let out a sigh of relief that they were there now. The paramedics came into view, and soon one said who they were, and asked what the problem was. Will had only just heard about it all, and allowed Debbie to tell them as best she could. If she wasn't going to be able to, he would fill them in. He heard what happened again, and somehow began to believe that Debbie was in fact pregnant, and hoped that she wasn't going to lose the baby, their baby. Will could feel Debbie shaking a little, and let go of her, taking off his jacket, and placing it around her shoulders, without giving it a second thought.
Will listened to what the paramedic said, nodding in agreement. He kept himself close to Debbie, sitting next to her, letting the paramedic take her blood pressure, and it was soon confirmed that it was normal. That was a relief, and soon the other paramedic came into view, commenting on the situation. Will listened, taking in what she was saying, and hoping that she was right, that she might not be losing the baby. He saw Debbie nod in acknowledgement of what Shauna said, and placed his hand on Debbie's back, giving it a gentle rub. Will quickly got up then, as both paramedics lifted Debbie up onto her feet. Debbie was soon inside the ambulance, and Paul then asked Will if he wanted to go into the back. Will nodded, and jumped inside, soon sitting next to Debbie, as the ambulance made it's way to the hospital.
Once they were inside, waiting for a doctor, Debbie turned to Will, saying that she should have known when she didn't have a period, and said sorry. Seeing Debbie now with her head in her hands crying, made Will feel really upset, and instantly got down to her level, and just wrapped his arms around her. "Deb, please don't blame yourself. We will get it all sorted, okay?" Will kept his arms around her, and occassionally moved his hand up near Debbie's hair, softly running his fingers through her hair, hoping to calm her down a little before the doctor came.

William continued to comfort Debbie and once she was composed enough to tell him what she felt or deep down what she knew was the problem she saw him blink a few times as he looked into her eyes. She knew it was going to sound crazy to him, for her not to have had a period and tests to show up negative, she should have said something to him. But she was just so busy with Mother’s Day approaching that she hadn’t really given it much thought. Now though she wished she had because she was pretty sure she was losing their baby. When Debbie got another pain after she finished telling William what she thought the problem was she felt Will’s grip around her tighten and she was grateful for and then felt his hand rub at her back in circular motions which was indeed helping and yet she couldn’t feel as if it were helping, all she felt was numb because she’d had Will’s baby in her and now it would appear she no longer did. She felt Will move closer to her and then tell her to hush and that whatever the hell was going on a doctor was sure to help. All Debbie could do was to nod her head slowly, wishing and hoping for what he said to be true.
After the paramedics had arrived and did what they could they soon had Debbie in the ambulance along with Will and on their way to the hospital. It didn’t seem to take too long for them to reach the hospital check Debbie in and leave her and Will at the triage waiting to be seen. When Debbie had spoken to Will saying that she should have known when she didn’t have her period and then apologised to him she soon felt his strong arms around her and telling her not to blame herself adding that they would get it all sorted. Debbie nodded her head slowly again knowing what Will had said was probably true but it didn’t stop it from hurting. She then felt Will’s hand run through her hair which felt good and was keeping her a bit calmer. The tears finally beginning to subside she turned to Will and in a very sad voice said, “I really wanted this baby Will, what if I lose it? What if I can’t have another? What if whatever is wrong with me leaves me unable to have more?” She knew it was a lot of ‘what if’s’ and none of them might come true in her case but she couldn’t help but think it.
It was at this point a doctor arrived and began to speak. “Debbie Harris?” The doctor asked and Debbie nodded her head. “Hi there, I’m Doctor Sophie King, I’m going to be looking after you with my team of nurses. I see from the notes from the paramedic that your blood pressure is fine but that you seem to be spotting with some abdominal pain and that you haven’t had a period for a couple of months but tests failed to show you were pregnant, is that right?” Sophie asked Debbie and she nodded her head again. “I only took a couple of tests to be honest, but both of them came up negative, so just put the non show of periods down to being really busy in my shop.” Debbie answered and glanced in Will’s direction and bit on her bottom lip slightly. Sophie nodded her head giving Debbie a weak smile. “These things can happen. It does sound to me like you are pregnant, I’m just going to take you through to a room and we’ll give you an ultrasound scan to see what’s going on, okay?” Debbie nodded her head again.
“Can William come through with me?” She asked Sophie who glanced in William’s direction. “That shouldn’t be a problem.” She then began to wheel Debbie through to an empty room and then handed a form on a clipboard with a pen to William. “I’ll be back in a moment or two with the ultrasound machine, can you fill this in for me please, thanks.” Sophie then left Debbie and William alone as she went to get the machine. Debbie was hoping she wouldn’t have to be kept in the hospital she hated them although she knew deep down it was probably the best place for her to be right then. Debbie then felt another pain come over, it was so intense this time that she immediately grabbed at the sides of the bed as she leaned forward squeezing her eyes shut. “Oh my God Will this is so pain...” She didn’t get all the word out before falling back onto the pillow passing out with the pain.
Sophie came back into the room at that point and seeing Debbie passed out quickly made her way over to her. “Debbie? Debbie can you hear me?” She asked her and then took out her torch and opened her eyes and shone the light into them. Debbie could sense the brightness in her eyes and began to stir. Sophie removed the torch from Debbie’s eyes and watched as Debbie began to flicker her eyes open. “Welcome back, you gave me a bit of a scare then Debbie.” Debbie gave her a sad smile, “I’m sorry but that last pain it was so intense.” Sophie nodded her head and gave Debbie’s shoulder a gentle squeeze. “Well let’s see what’s going on then, shall we?” She pushed the ultrasound machine round and switched it on. “Could you lift your top up for me a little please Debbie.” She asked and Debbie did just that and shivered a little as she felt Sophie put the cold gel onto her stomach area.
Sophie moved the paddle slowly around Debbie’s abdomen putting slight pressure in certain areas and then saw what the problem was. “Debbie you’re actually very lucky this was caught when it was or could have been potentially danger...” She trailed off as another image came up onto the screen and she heard quite a firm heartbeat. “I don’t believe it!” She exclaimed and then turned to Debbie shaking her head slightly. “I was actually just about to tell you that you were having an ectopic pregnancy, do you know what that is?” She asked as she looked from Debbie to William and back to Debbie. Debbie nodded her head, “I think so, I read it online somewhere, it’s when the foetus grows in the fallopian tube right?” Debbie asked and Sophie nodded her head slowly. “That’s right, and you are having an ectopic pregnancy, which we’ll have to operate to remove right away, but my paddle also just picked up another image.”
She pointed to the screen, “Do you see that? Well that’s another pregnancy in the correct area and quite possibly a younger foetus than the one giving you the trouble in the fallopian tube I am amazed that no pregnancy tests showed as positive, but you really are very lucky. If we’re careful with removing the foetus from the fallopian tube there is nothing to say that you still won’t be pregnant.” Sophie explained and gave Debbie a warmer smile and then turned to William and did the same thing and then turned back to Debbie.
Just at that point Debbie doubled over in pain once more and screamed out before falling back onto the pillow again. “Alright we need to get this seen to right away.” Sophie said as she turned to one of her nurses, “Get an orderly in here right away to take Debbie to the operating theatre.” She then turned to William, “If you want to follow us, but unfortunately you will have to wait in the waiting room opposite the operating theatre.” With that Sophie made her way out of the room and looked back to make sure William was following her and headed right toward the operating theatre.

As they waited in the hospital for Debbie to be seen to, Debbie had apologised to Will for what was happening. He soon told her not to blame herself, and they would get it all sorted. He saw her nod slowly, which made him give her a weak smile. He knew that her continuing to worry about it all wasn’t going to help the situation any at all. Debbie then spoke more, talking about really wanting the baby, and said what if she was losing it, what if she couldn’t have another. Will moved to really look at Debbie, “I am sure that if something is causing whatever is actually happening that the doctors will figure it out. Whatever might be happening might be able to be fixed. We really won’t know till you get checked over.” Will put his hand on her face gently, then kissed her for a second. “Let me worry for the both of us okay?” Will had loved the idea of them having a child when Debbie mentioned it weeks ago, and thinking about them not being able to was starting to effect him a little inside.
Soon enough a doctor came in, first talking to Debbie, and confirming what she had been told by the paramedics. Will stood beside her bed as she spoke to Doctor King about what she had done, in regards to the pregnancy tests, and about her periods not showing up. Debbie glanced in his direction, and watched her bite on her bottom lip. Will gave her a small smile, which disappeared as she turned back to the doctor. He listened to what the doctor had to say, but hearing her say that it sounded to her that Debbie was pregnant made his heart leap a little. So he was going to be a father, but really that wasn’t going to be officially confirmed until any tests were done.
Sophie then said that she was going to take Debbie through to a room to give her an ultrasound scan to see what was going on. When Debbie asked if Will could come too, he took her hand in his own, hoping that it was okay. When it was confirmed that it was okay, Debbie was soon moved to the room where the scan was going to be done. Once in the room, Sophie gave Will a clipboard with a form on it to fill out. He nodded, eyeing it off, and then pulled out a pen from his pocket. Sophie spoke, asking if he could fill that out, “Sure.” Will found a chair and moved it towards the bed, and sat down to start filling it out. He only managed to write Debbie’s full name and date of birth before he saw in the corner of his eye Debbie moving forward in the bed. As he got up, the folder and pen clattered to the floor, and Will reached for her back, placing his hand there. Hearing Debbie say that what she was feeling was painful, or so he thought she was going to say, as she only got half the word out, before she fell back onto the bed.
Will saw that her eyes were shut, and started to panic inside. He placed his hand in her own and squeezed it. “Debbie! Deb! Come on wake up!” At that moment Sophie came back, and Will watched her rush over, talk to Debbie, then shine her penlight in Debbie’s eyes. Will couldn’t manage to let go of Debbie’s hand, just hoping that whatever was happening was found out soon. Soon enough he watched as Debbie opened her eyes, and gave her a small smile, letting out a breath, not realising that he had been holding it in. Sophie welcomed her back, and Debbie then commented on the last pain she had. Sophie commented about looking at what was going on, and Will nodded. “Sounds good to me.”
Sophie soon had the gel on Debbie’s stomach, and began to move the paddle around to see what was happening. Will leaned on the bed a little, still holding Debbie’s hand. He looked at the screen, trying to make sense of what was on the screen. Will had used one of the ultrasound machines before, but on limbs not on the torso of a person before. Hearing what Sophie had to say initially made Will raise his eyebrows a little. Then she trailed off which made him frown a little, then heard it, a heartbeat. He wondered what she meant by it being dangerous, then heard her say that she couldn’t believe it. “What is it doc? What’s wrong?” He had no idea what they were apparently seeing on the screen if she didn’t say anything helpful.
Sophie then said to Debbie that she was going to say that she was having an ectopic pregnancy, and then asked her if she knew what that was. She looked at Will, who shook his head, and wondered if Debbie knew what that was. Will looked at Debbie, who then said that she had read about it, and soon said what it was. He felt his lips part a little, not believing what he was hearing. Will had no idea that the egg or foetus could get somehow stuck in the tubes as it came down. It was just a little too much for him to take in. He quickly looked at Sophie, “Is that what is happening? What does that mean?” Sophie then spoke more, saying what Debbie said was right, and that she will have to operate to remove it right away. Will nodded, and heard what she said next. Again he could feel his forehead frown again, wondering what else could be wrong. Wasn’t the one thing enough?
He then remembered the heartbeat that was heard, and wondered if that was coming from the foetus in the fallopian tube. But then he watched as Sophie pointed to the screen, stating that there was another pregnancy in the correct spot. Will shook his head slightly, not believing what he was hearing. Hearing Sophie say that she was amazed that no pregnancy test showed as positive made him nod a little. He knew that they weren’t always accurate, but it should have shown as positive, despite one egg coming down fully. Will had to sit down, and found the chair he had been sitting in, and sat down in it. He listened to what else Sophie had to say, trying to take in what they had to do. But hearing the fact that if they were careful with the operation, Debbie would be able to still be pregnant, made his eyes light up, and turned to Debbie. “That’s great news.” He looked at Sophie, who gave him a warm smile, giving her one back.
The kind of happy moment soon disappeared as Debbie soon had another pain, and this time screaming out with it. Will again stood up, and rubbed at her back. “I am here Deb!” He didn’t know what else to do, despite having his ability. Will didn’t want to jeopardise risking Debbie’s or the baby’s life. As Debbie fell back onto the pillows again, Will stood back, not sure what to say or do. Whatever this thing was that was happening it felt like a nightmare that he wanted to wake up from. Just knowing that this was what Debbie wanted more than anything was killing him inside. Sophie soon spoke to one of the nurses, and then she spoke to Will, who just looked at her as she spoke. He nodded, then shook his head, “I understand.” Will quickly picked up the folder and pen, and followed Sophie towards where the operating theatre was.

When Debbie had started to panic about losing the baby and maybe not being able to have another she soon felt William move a little to look at her and then began to speak saying that whatever was happening they might be able to fix it and they won’t know until she got checked over. She knew that deep down but it still didn’t stop her from worrying because she had wanted Will’s baby so much and now it might look like she was going to lose it. All Debbie could do was nod her head slowly as no words could really express how she was feeling. Debbie then felt Will’s hand on her face and she felt him kiss her gently and then he spoke again telling her to let him worry for the both of them. Debbie knew that Will was just trying to make her feel better and yelling at him that it wasn’t going to make her panic less wouldn’t do either of them any good right now so instead knowing that he was saying what he said out of love she put her hand over his that was on her face and nudged into it slightly giving him a weak smile, “Okay then.” She replied. After Doctor King spoke to Debbie about what seemed to be happening she confirmed that it did indeed sound like Debbie was pregnant but wanted to get an ultrasound to check what was going on inside because of Debbie’s obvious discomfort and bleeding. She had asked William to fill in a form which he had agreed to and had begun to fill it out when Debbie had taken another pain and sat forward. She watched as Will quickly stood up allowing the clipboard and pen to fall to the floor and she was about to tell William that it was so painful but hadn’t got the whole word out as she fell back onto the bed. Debbie could feel William’s hand squeeze her own and she could hear him shout her name and ask her to come back to him but the voices seemed so far away and she felt so weak that the thought of opening her eyes seemed like such an effort. However Debbie found her way back and slowly opened her eyes stating that the last pain had just been so intense and Sophie welcomed her back. When Sophie spoke about taking a look to see what was going on she gave William a weak smile when he replied saying it sounded good to him. Sophie placed a hand on William’s shoulder and gave a slight reassuring squeeze and then went to work on Debbie to try and find out what was going on. Sophie soon found out that not only was Debbie having an ectopic pregnancy but she was also having a normal pregnancy too but the foetus was a younger one. When she had exclaimed that she couldn’t believe it William asked her what was wrong in a voice that sounded a bit panicked to Sophie. So she explained what was going on. When Sophie said she was going to say that Debbie was having an ectopic pregnancy and did they know what that was she saw William shake his head but Debbie had read about it and soon stated she knew what it meant. William then asked Sophie if that was what was happening and what did it mean. Sophie turned to him with a weak smile, “With some pregnancies the egg is fertilised before the egg reaches the womb, this is what happened in Debbie’s case causing her to have what is called an ectopic pregnancy, which is where the foetus starts to grow in the fallopian tube instead of the womb. This is generally caused by a damaged fallopian tube causing narrowing of the walls. When caught early like this one has we can usually remove the foetus without any problem but sometimes the woman doesn’t bleed and just has the pains and quite often puts it down to niggling pregnancy pains and it can often become too late where the fallopian tube ruptures and that can be dangerous to the woman, they can die in severe cases. There is a chance that we may have to remove the damaged fallopian tube to stop this from happening again. However, we’ve caught this early, so Debbie should be just fine.” Sophie explained to William and gave him a reassuring smile. However Sophie knew that she would have to tell them about the normal pregnancy she had picked up too and had begun to let them both know that even with removing the ectopic pregnancy if they were careful that Debbie should still be pregnant. Debbie watched as William sat down on the chair again after Sophie had finished talking to him about what was happening. It was a little too much even for Debbie to take in. One minute she was pregnant, the next felt like she was losing it, told she was having an ectopic pregnancy which meant she should have been losing it and then told that she was still pregnant in the right place too. It was no wonder that William had to sit, if Debbie hadn’t been lying on a bed she would have had to do the same thing too. William then looked at Debbie saying it was great news that if they were careful with the operation that Debbie would still be pregnant. Debbie gave him a weak smile and nodded her head. It was great, but what happened if the operation went wrong and she lost the other baby too? But she knew she couldn’t say that because William would know that she was worrying again and really worrying wasn’t going to be doing her any good at all. Debbie then took another pain and screamed out which had prompted William to get up and rub at her back saying that he was there. She just nodded her head slightly before she fell back onto the pillows again. The pain was just too intense for her and it was taking a lot of her energy to stay awake she found it easier to just bow down to it. Sophie then asked for an orderly to take Debbie to the operating theatre telling William that he would have to wait in the waiting room opposite and he replied saying he understood. Sophie then made her way to the operating theatre and made sure to look back and check that William was indeed following her and he was. Once she reached the operation theatre she turned to William. “I will do what I can for Debbie okay?” She then made her way into the operating theatre placing a mask over her mouth and nose and then scrubbed up her hands and put gloves on and gave Debbie a general anaesthetic so that she could start work on removing the troublesome foetus from Debbie’s fallopian tube. **** 2 hours later **** The operation had taken slightly longer than expected and this was due to the fallopian tube being damaged a lot and it made more sense to remove it to avoid another ectopic pregnancy happening again. The other fallopian tube looked normal which meant that Debbie would be able to fall pregnant again but may find it more difficult. Debbie had also haemorrhaged badly causing her to flat line briefly due to the removal of the fallopian tube and this meant that she had to have a blood transfusion, something that Sophie had to get started while she continued with the operation. Thankfully the foetus in the womb seemed to still be intact when the operation was complete, but with the fact that Debbie had lost a lot of blood and starved of oxygen until she was resuscitated it meant that she would have to be monitored for twenty-four hours to make sure that the other foetus wouldn’t die. Sophie made her way out to the waiting room so she could fill William in on what had happened with Debbie. “Hi there, I’m so sorry to take so long to get back to you but there were slight complications with the operation. Once I had Debbie opened I could see that there was significant damage to the fallopian tube which meant it was healthier for Debbie to remove it to prevent future ectopic pregnancies. It should have gone easy enough except she haemorrhaged badly and briefly flat lined, she is currently going through a blood transfusion now, but we will have to monitor the surviving foetus for twenty-four hours to make sure that everything is alright what with Debbie losing a lot of blood and being starved of oxygen briefly. I am so sorry, but the good news is that Debbie should be fine, but she may find it more difficult to get pregnant again in the future. I’ll get her settled into a room and you can go in and see her.” Sophie explained and then placed her hand on William’s shoulder before going back out into the operating theatre to get Debbie into a room and make her comfortable. A few minutes later she went back to William, “You can go in and see her now, if you just follow me.” Sophie then headed in the direction of Debbie’s room and had them both there within a few moments. “I’ll leave you with her, there’s a call button should you need my assistance.” Sophie then closed the room door quietly and left Debbie alone with William. Right at this moment Debbie was still lying on the bed with the transfusion pumping blood into her and her eyes closed, but to anybody else if they didn’t know any better they would just think Debbie was sleeping. {ooc - used this site for some of the information about ectopic pregnancies www.miscarriageassociation.org.uk/ma2006/information/leaflets/ectopic.htm}

William had soon asked Sophie what it all meant, and she soon explained what was happening to Debbie. He stood and took in what she had to say about it all. Will nodded a couple of times, and glanced over at Debbie a couple of times, just kind of amazed at what she was obviously going through. He was kind of relieved to hear that they had caught this early, so he kind of felt a little better, feeling that Debbie would be okay now. Once Sophie finished what she was saying about it all, Will nodded. "So Debbie will be okay? Kind of a good thing that we have caught it early then." He turned to Debbie giving her a warm smile, again feeling relieved at that. After hearing it all, Will had sat down. This whole experience was not one he had imagined, though he was glad that he was able to be here for Debbie when it all happened. When Will said that it was great news, in regards to the operation if they were careful they would be able to save the younger foetus. He watched Debbie nod and give him a weak smile. Not another word was needed, as Will just wanted Debbie to conserve her energy. He bent down then and kissed her on the forehead softly. William followed Sophie towards the operating theatre, and when they reached it, she said she would do what she could for Debbie. He nodded a little, and walked over to the chairs in the waiting area. Will placed the pen and clipboard on the chair beside him, and bent over, with his head in his hands, which slowly ran their fingers through his hair. He took in a few deep breaths, hoping and praying that Debbie would be okay after it all. **** 2 Hours later **** Will had finally managed to fill our the form on the clipboard, and had quickly headed down to the reception area to give it to them. He apologised for taking so long with it, but they seemed to understand, which he was grateful for. Will then had quickly made his way back to the waiting area outside the operating theatre. The time seemed to drag on, and he had lost count at how many times he had looked at his watch, or the clock up on the wall. It felt like a life time, but soon enough, after around two hours later, Sophie came back out to him to let him know what had been done. Will stood up, and then shook his head when she apologised, and let her continue on. He swallowed quickly, hearing that there had been complications. His heart started to beat faster, hearing all that had happened in that time. It sounded like it went from bad to worse in there for Debbie, and Will felt like he was going to be sick, though hid it pretty well. Sophie had then said that Debbie should be fine, though may find it more difficult to get pregnant again. His heart sank then, knowing how much Debbie wanted kids, or at least one for now, with Will. He had obviously no objections to how many they had, but if the case was that Debbie might find it harder to fall pregnant, they might have to take having kids a bit more slower. Once Sophie finished talking, she had placed her hand on his shoulder, and then headed back into the operating theatre. Will slumped back into the chair he had been sitting in, and just stared at the coffee machine opposite him. All of what Sophie had just told him was just swimming around in his head: significant damage to the fallopian tube.... she haemorrhaged badly.... briefly flat lined.... blood transfusion.... Though then the thought of Debbie finding it hard to fall pregnant next time was the main thing now playing the front of his mind. How was he going to tell her that, when he knew she was so ready to have kids? Will looked up to the ceiling of the waiting room, placing his hands on his head. How was he going to tell her? A few minutes later, Sophie came out and told him he could see her now. Will slowly got up out of the chair, heart racing, and followed Sophie to Debbie's room. They soon reached the room, and Will wasn't sure what he might see, though he knew that what was done in the operation was on Debbie's body, not her face. He walked in, and saw her lying in the bed. Will let out a deep breath, and nodded at what Sophie said, watching her close the door behind him. He stood for a few seconds at the foot of her bed, eyes hovering over the machine that was moving the blood towards her. Will then slowly moved his feet towards the side of the bed, and felt around for the chair, sitting in it. Will just sat and looked at Debbie, wondering why she wasn't awake yet, but really she had major surgery, and he guessed the anesthetic was pretty power, knocking anyone out. His eyes then moved to her hand, and gently took it in his own. Will's gently caressed it, feeling his emotions starting to build up inside him. He just couldn't take it anymore, and he moved his head to lean on the edge of the bed, and the tears started to fall one right after the other.

When William asked Sophie if Debbie would be okay adding that it was good they caught it early, Sophie gave him a weak smile and nodded her head slowly. “She should be okay, but with all medical issues problems can often arise which we will not be aware of until we see what caused this in the first place.” Sophie explained giving William another weak smile knowing that it was a lot for him to take in; medical explanations were always a lot for anybody to take in. Debbie had heard everything that was being said but she wasn’t really taking it in, all she cared about was that she would still be pregnant after everything she was about to go through. She saw William turn to her and give her a warm smile and as much as it would usually make her give him one back in return she knew that she wouldn’t feel like smiling until it was all over and she knew that she was still pregnant. Instead she just blinked a few times and turned her head away even though she knew that it wasn’t William’s fault, if anything she was blaming herself for not going to the doctor sooner when the pregnancy tests were showing negative and she knew she hadn’t had a period. When William bent down and kissed Debbie on the forehead gently she closed her eyes at the touch just wishing that it could all go away and they could be happy again. **** 2 hours later **** Sophie knew that it would be a lot for William to take in because he didn’t say anything as she spoke to him; obviously he was taking in everything so that if Debbie questioned him he would have answers for her. However, Sophie didn’t plan on William having to tell Debbie by himself. Sophie had then gone back to the operating theatre to help get Debbie moved to a room of her own and to make her comfortable. Once Debbie was settled in the room Sophie went back to William to tell him that he could go and see her now if he was to follow her. Again nothing was said but once William was inside the room Sophie had left William in the room with Debbie knowing that it might be another short while before Debbie would be conscious and wanted for him to have some time alone with her. When William had taken Debbie’s hand she hadn’t felt it because she was still unconscious after everything she had gone through and still being under the anaesthetic. She also didn’t feel William’s head move to lean on the edge of the bed she was laying on either. After about twenty minutes Debbie’s eyes began to flicker open and felt a dull ache in her abdomen and immediately began to think the worst and that she had lost the baby in her womb also. She had no idea naturally that she was still pregnant for now. Debbie then slowly moved her head in the opposite direction from where William was resting his head and saw the machine pumping blood into her so she took that as a sign that things must be fairly bad. She then slowly moved her head in the other direction and saw William with his head on the edge of the bed but also felt his hand in her own. Debbie mustered up all the strength she could at that moment and squeezed William’s hand as much as she could. She then tried to speak but soon found that her mouth was a little dry and so she coughed a couple of times to clear her throat and tried again. “Will...William?” She said in a very hoarse voice and then coughed again a little, “William?” Despite everything her body had just gone through the only thing she could think of to ask was if they were still pregnant. “We’re still pregnant, right?” She asked in a continued hoarse voice. Just then the door was opened slowly. It was Sophie back to check on Debbie figuring that she may have been coming round by now. She walked over to the transfusion machine and checked it to make sure that everything was still running smoothly which it was. She turned to Debbie then with a warm smile, “Welcome back Debbie, you shouldn’t be hooked up to this for too much longer. How are you feeling?” Debbie looked at her almost as if she was stupid but smiled weakly at her anyway. “I feel like I’ve lost a baby.” Debbie replied in a deadpan voice. Sophie shook her head gently and put her hand on Debbie’s hand gently. “Well, so far you’ve lost the one that was giving you the trouble, but if everything continues to go well over the next twenty-four hours you should still be very much pregnant. I’ll be back soon; I’m just going to bring through an ultrasound machine so that I can have that attached to you also to keep an eye on the other foetus.” With that Sophie left the room again. Debbie looked at William then, “What happened to me William?” She asked and swallowed before continuing, “I mean, why do I feel like I’ve been run over by a car when all they did was remove a foetus growing in the wrong place?” Debbie asked and then began to cough again because her throat was very dry, she began to look around the room but couldn’t see any water. She would have to ask Sophie when she came back in if she could have some water.

Hearing what Sophie was saying to reply to Will asking if Debbie would be okay, made him feel a little better, though still on edge a little as well. The idea of other problems arising from the possible problem made him sick, hoping it wouldn't be the case for Debbie. He loved her so much, and just wanted this problem to go away. When Will had given Debbie a weak smile, he watched her blink a couple of times at him, and that was the only response he got. Though he hadn't expected anything much, as he knew, or had a feeling that what she was going through was taking it out of her. But watching her turn away from him broke his head, hoping that it could all be over with, and she was laying her after the operation, rather than going into have it now. **** 2 hours later **** Will looked up at Debbie, still sleeping on the bed after ten minutes of sitting next to her bed, still holding her hand in his own. He felt like he couldn't let go, or dare move, in case she woke up and he wasn't here. As Will laid his head on the edge of the bed again, he closed his eyes, and began to think of a lot of things. Some of them he would have to talke to Debbie about when she was stronger. But one in particular was running through his head now, and was one that was becoming clearer ever since this incident that happened. He didn't realised that he had started to doze off, when he felt some movement in his hand. Will quickly opened his eyes, and lifted his head off the bed to see Debbie with her eyes open. He watched her cough then try and say his name, which led to him shaking his head a little. But then she said his name better this time, though her voice was a little scratchy, which he knew was normal. Will gently caressed her hand, then heard her ask if they were still pregnant. He was just about answer her, placing a gentle hand on the side of her face, when Sophie came in. Will was kind of relieved with that, despite knowing the answer to her question. He gave Sophie a smile, just liking the fact that Debbie was awake, and hopefully would start to feel better. Will listened to what Sophie was saying, mostly to Debbie, and then Sophie asked her how she was doing. Will turned to look at Debbie, wondering how she was physically feeling, let alone any other feelings she might have right now. He let out a quiet breath, hearing how Debbie sounded with her reply. Will knew that wasn't the case, despite having to lose the baby that wasn't doing the right thing. He listened to what Sophie said next to Debbie, and nodded to her as she left. Will's eyes then diverted to Debbie, who then began to question him about what had happened to her, and saying how she felt right then. He looked down at his hand in her own still, then looked back up at Debbie, swallowing a little. Here goes, he thought to himself, here was the part that he thought Sophie might have spoken to her about, not him. He hoped he could tell her what had happened to her in the operating theatre, and hoped he said it right. "They were able to remove the baby that wasn't doing you any good. But Deb..." Will swallowed again, letting out a breath, "... the tube that it was in was very damaged, and they had to remove it." His heart began to beat fast in his chest, and quickly spoke more, hoping to make what he said a bit more postivie. "But Sophie said that you can still have more kids with one." He knew he left out the bit where it was going to be more difficult to get pregnant again, hoping that Sophie might bring it up later on.

Debbie had finally began to stir from the operation she had gone through and even though her throat was dry she tried to speak to William as she just wanted to find out if they were still pregnant. She had wanted this baby so much and she was scared that she may have lost it and then began to panic slightly that if she had lost it, would she be able to have another baby or not. She could feel him caressing her hand and then she felt a hand on the side of her face but still there were no answers, but the doctor had walked back into the room. Sophie asked her how she was feeling and she said she felt as if she had lost a baby in a deadpan voice. Sophie then said that she had lost the baby that was causing her the trouble but if everything went well over the next twenty-four hours she would still be very much pregnant. That gave Debbie some sort of comfort. Then Sophie said she was going to get an ultrasound machine to keep an eye on the remaining foetus.
Debbie had then begun to question William about what had happened to her once Sophie had left the room instead of asking Sophie but she wanted to hear it from William. She listened to what William was saying but when he said ‘but Deb’ and trailed off she began to really panic wondering what he was going to say. What had happened? She was still pregnant, Sophie had said so, and so what could possibly be so bad that he had to trail off. However she didn’t try to push him, instead just gave him a weak smile as she waited for him to continue with what he was trying to tell her. He began to tell her that the tube the other foetus was in was damaged and they had to remove it. Well that wasn’t so bad, she had two of them right? He wasn’t going to tell her that her other tube was scarred or something making it more difficult to get pregnant? “Okay.” She said and nodded her head slightly letting him carry on.
William continued with saying that Sophie had said she could have more kids with one. Somehow she wasn’t sure that William had been completely honest with her, but if there was bad news, then maybe it would be best to hear it from Sophie instead of William. She knew that by the way he was talking to her that it had been difficult enough for him to say what he had already said to her. “Well that’s good then I guess, but if this one survives, then maybe I don’t have to worry about that so much.” She said trying to make good of it all knowing that she would probably love to have more than one kid and it would cut her into pieces if she couldn’t, but she would never let William know that, never.
Just then Sophie came back into the room with the ultrasound machine and hooked up the pads with some gel onto Debbie’s stomach. “This will monitor the remaining foetus Debbie, but I see no reason why you can’t still be pregnant as long as you are resting in here.” Debbie gave her a weak smile, “Thanks. What about what just happened, William told me about you having to remove one of my tubes but you had said I could still have kids, is that right?” Debbie asked as she looked from William to Sophie hoping what William had said was true. Sophie nodded her head, “It’s true, you should be able to have more kids with just the one tube Debbie, but you may find it a little more difficult to conceive, with only having half the chance of a sperm fertilising an egg, I am really sorry, but hopefully this one will be safe and you won’t have to worry about other kids for a while yet.” Sophie explained and put her hand on Debbie’s shoulder and squeezed it gently.
“So what you’re saying is, it might take longer to get pregnant next time?” Debbie asked Sophie and she gave Debbie a weak smile and nodded her head, “That’s what I am saying, but this one you have here seems to be a fighter, so I am sure that you will still be pregnant in twenty-four hours time and you will be good to go home then. If you need me you can press the call button.” With that Sophie made her way out of the room leaving her alone with William once more. “I guess it doesn’t sound so bad, but I’ll be sorry if I can’t give you anymore children, especially should...” But she trailed off unable to finish the sentence, she was going to say especially should she lose this one, but her emotions got the better of her and she began to cry. “I’m so sorry William, I have been so stupid, I should have gone to the doctor when I didn’t have a period and tests came up with negative results.” She said between her tears and then basically brought one hand up to her face and hid behind it as she broke down into hysterical sobs.

After William tried to tell her what he knew, well ninety-nine percent of it, Debbie replied. It seemed to him that she was okay with it, or sort of. Will couldn't really tell for certain, and he knew that when she was well enough, he would speak to her more about it, and what their possibilities were if they weren't able to have anymore after this one.
He was glad that Sophie came back then, and she explained that the machine would monitor the remaining foetus. Hearing Sophie add that there was no reason that she can't still be pregnant as long as she rested in hospital, made Will give Debbie a smile. Well he was sure to make sure she was okay to leave before they discharged her, as he didn't want her to just go back home and then something happened. But he knew that the doctors knew what they were doing, so he would make sure that she rested at home as well.
Debbie then questioned about what happened in the operation, and how Will told her that with one tube removed that she could still have kids. Will then looked at Sophie to see what she would say. Hearing what was said by her made his stomach jump a bit. He knew that it would take longer for Debbie to get pregnant, and wondered what Debbie might say. Just hearing the information all over again, he felt his heart go out to Debbie, knowing that she had been so excited to have children with Will, and now it may not happen after this one for quite some time.
Debbine soon replied, questioning what Sophie said. He looked at Sophie as she spoke, and his heart fell again, but hearing that the baby was a fighter made it pick up again. Once Sophie finished talking, Will nodded in her direction, and when they were alone, he turned to Debbie, "Well you are a fighter, so why not the baby as well." Debbie then spoke saying it didn't sound so bad, but hearing her say and trail off when she commented that if she can't give him anymore children. He could tell she was going to say that should the baby she carries now does not survive.
Seeing her start to get upset, Will knew that it wasn't going to help Debbie, or the baby for that matter, and he took her hand, gently caressing it. She then apologised, and adding that she should have gon to the doctor after she didn't have a period and the tests were negative. Will let out a breath as Debbie began to sob behind her hand, which was no up on her face. "Shh, Deb. You had no idea, okay? Let's just get through the next twenty-four hours. After you feel better we will do some talking okay? Just rest, and take care of yourself in the baby." He hated seeing her like this, and he continued to hold and caress her hand, praying that everything would be alright for this little one.

After Debbie was informed properly of the situation she was now in from Sophie and they were alone she heard William say that she was a fighter and why not the baby as well. She wanted to believe it, but was finding it increasingly difficult to do so. All Debbie could do was to nod her head slightly and give William a weak smile. “I guess.” But she couldn’t help but think to herself what would happen if the remaining foetus in the right place died, when would she fall pregnant again? When would she be able to give William a child then? Maybe he wouldn’t even want to know her anymore. Some men were like that with females who couldn’t give them a child. Debbie had then begun to get upset and William soon held her hand caressing it, and as much as it was nice it wasn’t really doing her emotions any good at all. Debbie had then apologised saying she should have gone to the doctor with the negative results when she had no period and then began to break into hysterical sobs behind her hand. William then began to speak hushing her down and saying she had no idea. He then added that they were to get through the next twenty-four hours and she was to rest and take care of herself and the baby. She used the hand that was up at her face to wipe at her eyes and then dropped it as she sniffed a few times and looked at William giving him a weak smile. She loved him so much and the fact that he had been so kind through all of this just made her love him all the more. He was still caressing her hand which was now beginning to calm her down now that she had stopped the tears from falling. “Okay.” She replied knowing that what he had said was true; the last thing she wanted was to lose the baby that she was still carrying. **** 24 hours later ****
Saturday, 8th May, 2010 It was now the following day and Debbie had a reasonable night, at least that’s what she felt as she had no more pain and everything from what she could see when she was awake looked fine on the monitor keeping a check on her other baby. Debbie knew that once everything was checked that Sophie had said she could go home and she hoped that would be the case as she didn’t want to be cooped up in a hospital bed much longer if she could help it. She had calmed right down after William had spoken to her about it and she was desperate for Sophie to come back into the room and do a final check to make sure everything was fine. She wasn’t sure if William had stayed all night or not, but when she woke up he was there anyway, so whether he had gone home and came back she wasn’t sure but just seeing his face when she woke was good enough for her no matter what he had done during the night. Sophie soon came into the room, “Good afternoon Debbie, let’s see what is going on with your baby now, shall we?” Sophie asked giving Debbie an encouraging smile as she had every faith that Debbie’s other baby would be absolutely fine. She first looked at the monitor and could see that there was still the beep of the baby’s heartbeat. “Well looks as if everything is fine, but I will just give you another ultrasound scan.” Debbie nodded her head, “Okay, thanks.” She turned to William giving him a bright smile knowing that their baby seemed to be fine. Sophie placed some gel onto Debbie’s stomach and then switched the ultrasound machine on. “Yes, everything does indeed look...” But that was all she got out when she saw that the six week old foetus appeared not to be moving and then realised that the baby’s heartbeat had stopped. “Debbie I am so sorry, the baby isn’t moving and there is no heartbeat, I am afraid your baby is dead.” Sophie didn’t like having to tell Debbie this and Debbie couldn’t believe what she was hearing as she had no pain through the night and had heard the baby’s heartbeat on the monitor only moments before Sophie had come into the room. Debbie began to cry, “But, but that can’t be right, I heard the baby’s heartbeat just before you came into the room, you must have made a mistake.” Debbie said in a panic, she didn’t want to lose this baby, not if it could take her a lot longer to get pregnant again. “I’m sorry Debbie, there is no mistake. We will have to remove the foetus, I am so sorry. I will have to arrange for the procedure to be carried out, I will be back soon.” Sophie then put her hand on Debbie’s shoulder before leaving her and William alone. Debbie just began to break down all over again, she didn’t want to lose this baby. She looked at William and through her sobs she managed to say, “I’m so sorry.” Then she put both her hands up to her face and began to cry hysterically again. But then she heard a beeping noise and she turned to the monitor thinking she was maybe hearing things but then she heard it again. She stopped the crying and began to peer at it and then turned to William, “Can you hear that?” She still wasn’t sure if she was hearing things, but she wasn’t. The baby’s heartbeat was indeed beating again. Sophie came back in and she stopped dead in her tracks obviously hearing the beeping of the baby’s heartbeat from the monitor. She looked completely confused and made her way over to Debbie. “I’m not sure what is going on but I’m just going to take a look at another ultrasound.” She put the gel onto Debbie’s stomach and took a look at the machine and as if by miracle the baby, the very tiny foetus baby was moving again. “I don’t believe it Debbie, but your baby is alive again.” She couldn’t understand why but Sophie had heard of people with these incredible abilities and she wondered if Debbie was a special person like that as the chances were high that if Debbie had a power and her partner had one, then the baby would have one too. “Debbie, can I ask, are you and your partner what is known as an Evolved Human at all?” Debbie looked from Sophie to William and then back to Sophie and slowly nodded her head, “We are actually.” Sophie put her hand up to her chin for a second, “Well, your baby is highly likely to be an Evolved Human also and going by what just happened I would say they hold something like Phoenix Mimicry. I’m not an Evolved Human myself but I have the book and I’ve studied it, it might be worth you and your partner looking it up. And the baby’s heartbeat is stronger than ever. If nothing else goes wrong in the next hour or two I will say that you are free to go home.” Sophie said and gave Debbie and William a warm smile. “I’m just going to let the doctors know what has happened so that they know we do not need to carry out the procedure to remove the dead foetus.” With that Sophie left the room leaving Debbie and William alone. Debbie turned to William completely stunned but very happy. “What do you think to what she said? Do you think it’s possible?”

**** 24 hours later **** Saturday 8th May 2010 William was exhausted. He felt he couldn't leave Debbie alone for a minute, in case anything happened to her or the baby, so he stayed in the waiting area outside her room, and slept on and off, though it was just broken sleep. When he thought he had been a sleep for a while, he would look at his watch, and it had only been for maybe half an hour. It was just crazy. So by mid morning, Will had decided to just sit in the room till Debbie decided to wake. He understood that she needed her rest, and sat and flipped through a magazine that he saw in the waiting room, which he had taken into the room with him. Will was getting towards the end of the magazine, when Debbie woke up. He gave her a bright smile, hoping to lift her spirits. Will just hoped that Debbie got the all clear and was able to get home. He was going to make sure that she rested up for however long the doctor told her to. "Hey Deb. How are you feeling?" Just as he said that, Sophie came into the room, speaking to Debbie, and told her what she was going to do. Will moved out of the way, heading towards the end of the bed for Sophie to do her thing. Hearing that it looked like everything was fine, he gave Debbie an encouraging smile. Seeing Debbie's smile made him smile all the more, and rubbed at her leg under the bed clothes. He stood and watched as Sophie did the scan on Debbie, and then felt his own heart stop beating when Will heard Sophie stop talking mid sentence, and heard what he had been dreading, the stopping of the little heartbeat. He stared at the screen, and could probably tell that he could see more of what was happening on the screen. Sophie then told Debbie what Will had expected, and he kept his hand on her leg, but his other hand went to his mouth, and didn't know where to look. Will soon looked at Debbie, as she spoke to Sophie, telling her what she heard pretty much only moments ago. He could hear the panic in her voice, and he didn't blame her. He felt a lump in his throat, and tried to swallow it back, just wanting to be strong right now. Sophie spoke more, basically saying that they would have to remove the foetus, and she soon left to organise that. Will slowly made his way around to the side of the bed again and took Debbie's hand in his own. He gave her hand a bit of a squeeze as she began to cry. Will looked at the wall, just not believing it himself. If it was the case, he was sure that they could just try for another, regardless of the fact that it might take them longer to fall pregnant again. Hearing Debbie say she was so sorry to him, he instantly looked at her and shook his head. He watched her hand go from his, and both hands were now covering her face. "Deb, shhh... I am sure it will..." He stopped in mid sentence as he heard a noise. First he thought that maybe it was something that was maybe connected to Debbie, but then he heard Debbie ask him if he heard it. "I uh, I don't ...." That was all Will got out when the beep was heard again and it continued. Just looking at the monitor was making Will's eyes tear up, thinking it was a miracle that it was happening. At that time Sophie came into the room, and Will turned to her as she headed towards Debbie. He quickly got out of the way to let Sophie check what the hell was going on. She soon did another ultrasound, and it was confirmed that the baby was alive. Right then William just smiled and began to feel tears of joy roll down his face slowly. Sophie then asked Debbie a question, wondering what she might say about what Debbie might confirm. Debbie said that both her and Will were Evolved Humans, and Will wondered what might be said. Sophie then said that it was highly likely that their baby would be one as well, adding that it could have the Phoenix Mimicry ability. Will had heard of it, but had never read enough to know what it was about. But to him it sounded like it might be something that might be taken from his own ability of healing. Sophie spoke more, adding at the end that she would tell the doctors that they didn't need to carry out the procedure on Debbie now. Will watched her leave the room, and he turned to Debbie, kind of dumbfounded. Debbie looked stunned about what had just happened, and she asked him what he thought to what Sophie said, and did he think it was possible. Will knew he had to sit down, so he did on the edge of the bed. "I think I am more amazed at the fact that the baby is okay. Just hearing the heartbeat stop, it just wrecked me inside. But Sophie might be right you know. It is possible for the baby to have some sort of ability if both parents are Evolved Humans, like we are." It was kind of exciting now, wondering how the pregnancy might go now if the baby was already showing signs of having an ability when it hasn't been born yet. Will took her hand, and gave it a gentle squeeze. "I just hope that the baby doesn't cause too much grieve with it's ability." He chuckled a little, feeling so much better about everything. {ooc - and had a theory about the baby's ability that you chose for it. Debbie has the animal morphing, and Will has the ability to heal.... there you go.}

**** 24 hours later ****
Saturday 8th May, 2010 When Debbie woke up she saw the bright smile that William gave her and couldn’t help but give him a smile back although it wasn’t her usual type of bright smile as a part of her was still worrying about this baby she was still carrying not sure if it was going to be alright or not. William asked her how she was feeling “I feel a lot better than I did yesterday but I’m still worried in case anything should go wrong.” Debbie answered honestly and gave him a weak smile. The soon as she answered him Sophie came back into the room to obviously check up on Debbie and the baby. When Sophie said that everything looked fine Debbie saw that smile of William’s, it was like he was trying to give her some encouragement and Debbie had to smile back at him. It was good news because it meant that they were still pregnant. Debbie felt William rub at her leg under the covers and the feeling made her tingle slightly. Then Sophie had carried out the scan on Debbie and after thinking that everything was fine it was soon made clear that it wasn’t fine as Sophie told Debbie that she was sorry that the baby was dead. As Sophie spoke Debbie could feel that William’s hand was still on her leg but the other went up to his mouth. Debbie had begun to question it saying that it must be a mistake and then began to get very upset. When Sophie left the room to organise to get the foetus removed Debbie saw William move around to the other side of the bed and took her hand in his own and she felt him give it a squeeze as she begun to cry. Debbie had then said that she was sorry to William but she soon saw him shake his head but Debbie then put both her hands up to her face and began to cry behind them. She soon heard William try to calm her down and then stopped mid sentence. She had no idea why he had done that but then Debbie heard the sound of the baby’s heartbeat and she wondered if William had heard it before her and Debbie questioned him but it would seem that William was as confused as she was not really getting a sentence out. As the heartbeat sound continued Debbie continued to cry only this time she wasn’t crying because she was sad, she was crying because she was happy. Their baby was alive after all, Sophie had made a mistake she must have. Sophie soon came back into the room and as Debbie turned it was obvious to see that she was shocked at what she was hearing and made her way toward Debbie obviously with the mind to see what was going on. William naturally stepped aside and Sophie soon carried out another ultrasound scan and confirmed what she and William already knew, that their baby was indeed alive. Debbie could see the tears fall from William’s eyes slowly and she had to swallow a few times before answering the question that Sophie had asked about them being Evolved Humans. Debbie soon confirmed that they were and it was soon said that the baby would likely be one too and a power was mentioned as a possibility. Debbie thought about it and knew that it could be true because the one known fact about a phoenix was that they rose from the ashes when they died. In other words they die and come back to life. Sophie then left to cancel the procedure and Debbie had turned to William asking him what he thought. Debbie watched as he sat down on the edge of the bed and as he began to talk he said that he was more amazed that the baby was okay and hearing what else he had to say and knowing how the baby dying had affected William got her emotions kicking off again and more tears began to fall. “I never even thought about the baby being an Evolved Human, but it does make sense to be fair. I’m just so happy that we’re still pregnant because I wanted to have your baby so much.” Debbie said giving William a bright smile as she wiped at her eyes. William soon took her hand again and squeezed it making a comment about the baby not causing too much grief with its ability. Debbie laughed a little and shook her head, “I hope not, I hope that it sensed how much its mother was upset and know not to do that to me again.” Debbie replied wondering if any of what she had just said made any sense. **** 2 hours later **** Sophie continued to check in on Debbie to make sure that everything was continuing to go smooth and that nothing else had gone wrong and during this time Debbie continued to rest and talk with William between dozing off for moments at a time. About two hours had passed by now and Sophie came back into the room again for what must have been like the tenth time since the baby had come back to life. She made her way to the monitors and gave Debbie and William a bright smile. “Everything is absolutely fine. The baby’s heartbeat is stronger than ever, it’s like they have been literally reborn, or in this case re-fertilised maybe.” Sophie said with a slight laugh as she had no other way to explain what she was trying to say as the baby had never been born in the first place after all. Sophie then switched the monitors off and removed the connections to Debbie. “You’re free to go, there is no reason to keep you here. Everything is good, I would advise that you rest for a week or two though just to get over the operation we had to carry out on you, but I see no reason why you can’t go to full term with this little one.” Sophie said and lifted up the chart from Debbie’s bed. “If you want to get your things ready I’ll get your discharge note.” Sophie said and Debbie sat up and moved round so that she was sitting on the edge of the bed. She then moved and wrapped her arms around William holding him tightly to her. “I love you so much William Moore and I want to spend the rest of my life with you.” She said as a tear escaped knowing that what she had just said to William was the truth, she never wanted to be with anyone else. William was the one for her and yet before she had met him she wondered if she would ever have settled down. Sophie then came back into the room and handed Debbie an envelope and spoke to her, “This is your discharge note and remember no work for a week or two, doctor’s orders and I would like to be the doctor who looks after you during this pregnancy. My direct line number is on the note so if you have any problems please don’t hesitate to contact me.” With that Sophie extended her hand to Debbie that she took and shook it and then Sophie did the same thing to William before leaving the room. Debbie looked at William with a bright smile, “Okay, let’s go home.” Debbie said forgetting that they weren’t exactly living together yet. {ooc - yes great theory lol didn't even think about that}
