Now that they were at the doors ready to walk down that aisle, Claire saw Henry rush past them and mumble an apology. She couldn't believe it. He'd obviously had to go to the rest room and thought he'd get back in time before they began to walk down the aisle. Shaking her head and laughing.
"Henry, you're not supposed to see me until I get to the altar" and then she laughed again, "Oh no wait, that's the groom, we're alright" she added and laughed again.
Looking at Nathan and Noah on either side of her, she smiled warmly at both of them, and once again feeling the emotion building up as she looked down that aisle to where her Sam was waiting for her. He looked so handsome in his suit, and she was so happy about finally becoming Mrs Petrelli-Norton.
As the bridal march continued to play, the tears began to fall down Claire's cheeks. She hadn't wanted this to happen. "I'm going to mess up my make-up" she said softly, "You got a handkerchief?" she asked to both Noah or Nathan, whoever would respond first, so she could dab at her eyes.
Then with both Nathan and Noah on either side of her, she began her walk down the aisle to the bridal march, and after a couple of minutes, she was there, standing beside Sam with the biggest smile on her face, even though she still had tears in her eyes. Feeling unable to speak right at that moment she mouthed a "Hi" to him, and then handed her bouquet to Carla to hold while they went through the ceremony.
Then the preacher began to talk.
"Ladies and Gentleman we are gathered here today to witness the marriage of Claire Bennet Petrelli to Samuel Norton" then he smiled at Claire and Sam.
"Who gives this woman to this man?" he asked looking at Noah and Nathan, waiting on them to respond.
Looking at Sam first the preacher smiled.
"Repeat after me,
I, Samuel Norton, take you Claire Bennet Petrelli to be my wife, my partner in life and my one true love. I will cherish our friendship and love you today, tomorrow, and forever. I will trust you and honor you I will laugh with you and cry with you. I will love you faithfully Through the best and the worst, Through the difficult and the easy. What may come I will always be there. As I have given you my hand to hold so I give you my life to keep so help me God"
Then he looked at Claire, "And now if you shall repeat after me" and then he rhymed off another phrase for Claire to repeat, which she did.
"I, Claire Bennet Petrelli, take you Samuel Norton, to be my husband, my partner in life and my one true love. I will cherish our friendship and love you today, tomorrow, and forever I will trust you and honor you I will laugh with you and cry with you. I will love you faithfully Through the best and the worst, Through the difficult and the easy. What may come I will always be there. As I have given you my hand to hold so I give you my life to keep so help me God."
Then the preacher continued. "And now, with the giving and receiving of rings" looking at Sam, "If you repeat after me,
Claire, I give you this ring
as a sign of our marriage.
With my body I honour you,
all that I am I give to you,
and all that I have I share with you,
within the love of God,
Father, Son and Holy Spirit."
And then he looks at Claire and asks her to repeat the same thing to Sam.
"Sam, I give you this ring
as a sign of our marriage.
With my body I honour you,
all that I am I give to you,
and all that I have I share with you,
within the love of God,
Father, Son and Holy Spirit."
Then the preacher took both their hands, and placed them together, wrapping a white ribbon around them.
"In the presence of God, and before this congregation,
Samuel and Claire have given their consent
and made their marriage vows to each other.
They have declared their marriage by the joining of hands
and by the giving and receiving of rings.
I therefore proclaim that they are husband and wife.
Those whom God has joined together let no one put asunder."
By now Claire was so filled with emotions that there was no stopping the tears from falling, she just hoped she wouldn't look a mess when her eye make-up smudged.
"You may kiss the bride" the preacher said, finishing off their ceremony.
Now all they had to do was sign the register.
"If you follow me, and just sign here, each of you and your witnesses, which would be your bridesmaid and your best man" the preacher said looking from Claire to Sam.
Claire followed the preacher to the table, where the register lay and she signed it, for the last time using her name Claire Bennet and in brackets she wrote Petrelli. Then she waited for Sam, Carla and Bruce to do likewise.
The Rings.
