July 1st 2009The late shift... The most annoying of shifts when Lana was tired and wanting to go home to sleep. She had been working seven days a week for the longest time now. Mind you, her savings were better than ever and she had been saving for a few years. She could go out whenever she wanted and buy clothes, get her motorcycle fixed up or just go out and do what she wanted. Eventually she would be putting a desposit on an apartment in central Manhattan, near Central Park. Hopefully it would get her out of the strip club. More than anything Lana wanted to work in a garage, a motorcycle garage fixing up old bikes and selling them. It would be such a great life, and surprisingly she knew a lot about them. Her bright blue eyes wandered off deep in thought, when her manager came and tapped her on the shoulder. "Lana? Gonna get any work done today hun?" She smiled, "Sorry." There was a customer at the bar, another suit as she guessed. Ever since Marcus... the thought of him made her suddenly cringe. She knew he wouldn't call, guys like him never called. She hated it, no-one cared about her anymore, not even her precious idiot of a brother who was living the high life in Washington. "What'll be sugar?" Lana asked the guy, smiling at him. He muttered 'beer' as he watched the dancers on the main stage. She rolled her eyes, bending down as she pulled a Budweiser out of the fridge, usually they were happy with it, the 'all-American' beer. She pushed it towards him and leaned over the counter, puffing her cheeks out as she looked at the entrance and noticed a bunch of guys walk in. Another bachelor party surely, or just college guys hanging out. The suit handed over the money and she strutted to the till lazily, once again it was playing up. "Come on ya stupid thing." She bashed it with her fist, finally flinging it open suddenly. She pushed the few dollar notes into the till and elbowed it back in. That till had been playing up for months now, and Lana being head barmaid, had to deal with it most. Sighing, she leaned on the counter, running her hands through her hair. Once she looked up, she saw some of the guys that had just walked in at the bar grinning at her. She grinned back, tucking her hands behind her back.

Kyle was being dragged to the strip club with his friends again. He hated it. He hated going to the Strip Club with his friends. No matter how much he complained. He was always brought to the club. He hated that. He thought that he would get over coming to the club. However he seemed not to get over it. It just felt as if something was wrong with him. He didn’t want to admit that there something was wrong with him. He felt fine.
Kyle walked into the club and went in the direction of the bar. He and his friends were grinning at the barmaid. He went over to get him and his friends some drinks. It was the least he could do. He was just the driver while his friends would drink themselves and act like morons. It was a funny sight to his friends act like morons. It gave him a laugh and he was always the sane one of the group and that made him feel better at times.
He went to the bar and leaned against. “I’ll have two Budweiser’s, one vodka and coke, and a Corona,” he said with his British accent as he waited for the barmaid to ask for his ID. He really looked as if he was in his teens. However the case he was just 24 year old man. It was kind of weird for people to tell him that he looked like a teenager and were surprised to know that he was a 24 year old. It was awkward and Kyle hated being told as if he were a teenager. He clearly wasn’t a teenager he was a man and he wanted people to know that.

Lana pouted in frustration, the guy ordering wasn't even looking at her. He was another guy with another accent, lately there had been a few of them. Marcus, being the Irish who blew her off. And now this guy, with a firm English accent. She began getting the order; two Buds first, then the Corona with lime and finally the vodka and coke. Lana placed them on a black circle tray and left them on the counter. "11 dollars." She muttered, folding her arms and yawning. She wasn't in her flirty barmaid ways today, she also couldn't be bothered asking him for ID, even though he looked about sixteen. He needed stubble or something, and for some reason once she did look at him, she couldn't stop. There was something about him, something... different.
Once again the till was playing up, and Lana began bashing it with her fist again until it jerked open. This time it only opened a few inches, "For fucks sake." She didn't want him to hear, but feared he already did. "Sorry, this thing has been playing up for God knows how long."

Kyle finally looked at the barmaid. It would seem that she was in frustration. He didn’t know why maybe it was that time or month or she really hated her job. He wasn’t going to just come up with an analyze on what her problem was. He wasn’t that type of person. He really didn’t give a damn what the women was and if she was having a bad day. It was her problem and not his.
He sighed and took out the money and handed it to her. He had given her even change and was debating if he should tip the women or not. Usually when he went to places like this the people would want to flirt with him and yet tonight just seemed different. Everything wasn’t how it used to be and it just was awkward. Awkward indeed.
He watched her struggle with the till and wondered if he should help her or not. He just looked at her as she said for fucks sake. He shook his head and nodded in agreement when she informed him that the till had been acting up for who knows how long. “Do you need any help?” He offered in a calm voice he figured it would be nice to ask or who knows worth getting kicked out of the club.

The giving of even change didn't go unnoticed by Lana, infact she rolled her eyes at it. Some people were too generous, then some people were tight. Like this guy, what would one more dollar do to his bank? Seriously. She sighed, thinking of Marcus for a split second. He had probably found someone better, who didn't work in a grotty old strip club. She was probably one of those women who had money, and didn't mind flaunting it about. Fuckers. At least she had managed to cheer herself up slightly.
When the young man offered to help her, she couldn't help but smile slightly. "Yeah, just give it a bash or something." She heard one of his friends snicker loudly, probably already drunk on his three sips of Budweiser. "Something funny?" She asked, rolling her eyes at him. Instead she focused her attention on the guy helping her, whom seemed better looking everytime she looked at him. But as proven before, looks could be deceiving. Especially in places like this.
Could she trust him not to break it? He didn't seem that big that he could break it. Unfortunately if Lana misjudged him and he did indeed break it, it would surely be coming out of her wages to be fixed by a professional. "So gonna give it a try?" She asked him with a big smile on her face, deciding to go with the risk rather than the safe option.

Okay seriously Kyle was trying to be nice at giving the women exact change. Though it seemed not to impress her. He began to wonder if he should just use his damn card for now on. It would make everything easier. Though people were probably sick of using plastic and just wanted to use the paper. Paper was easily spendable while plastic it just went back in the wallets.
He then offered to help her. It was the least he could do. He needed a distraction from this club and his friends who were just snickering loudly which kind of annoyed him. He was going to say something – though he decided that after this he would go over and smack his friend’s heads. They were crazy, he sure knew how to put the craziest friends didn’t he!?
He looked at her and nodded when she asked him if he was going to give it a try. Course he was it was a distraction from the rest of club. It was something to do expect to have some kind of person strip on his lap – which his friends always paid to make him feel better. It never did. He pushed off the bar where he was leaning and went to where the till was. He was still on the customer side of the bar.
He placed his hand on the till and jerked it back closing his eyes as he decided to use his ability and make it work for now on. He had the ability to talk to technology and the till was technology. “There try it now” He said hoping like hell that it worked. He placed his hand on his side waiting to see the result. It better worked or he was going to be embarrassed.

Lana shook her head at his friends, still not finding them at all interesting compared to... well she didn't know his name. But he was fascinating. Immediately she could see the geeky guy underneath the shadow of his friends. She squinted her eyes slightly and looked at him, not yet locking with his eyes. 'Hate this place. This barmaid should be happy with the even change. I'm going to smack them guys...' That's all she managed to pick up, until he made his may to the till. Then she suddenly heard something she didn't expect. 'Ability, technology.' It was only brief, and she couldn't be sure if she heard correctly or not. But if he did... wow. That was one she wouldn't have thought of being real.
With curiousity she watched him place his hand on the till, then at his eyes which closed as he managed to fix it by jerking it backwards. Lana nodded at him, moving over to the till and placing he and his friends order in the till again. This time it worked perfectly. She gasped and laughed, not placing the money in it yet. In fact she handed it back to him, "It's on the house, you and your friends go have some fun, although... this doesn't seem like your kind of 'fun'." She emphasised fun as if she knew him which she obviously didn't. But for a moment she looked straight into his eyes, and nothing happened. None of her telepathic skills hit her, it was just blank. Except the feeling she got in her stomach. Butterflies? At her age? Was it possible?

Kyle was just trying to be a gentlemen in helping the lady. He began to wonder if the till was being a butthead and it needed someone like him to do the trick. He hoped to god he did the trick. All he wanted was the barmaid to be happy and not be annoyed with anything. He had a charm with women. Okay, not exactly a charm. He was a geek and held back being a geek. People would just think of him as a regular guy. However that was never the case. Never ever.
He smiled weakly at the barmaiden as she gasped and laughed. He wondered what the laughing was for and then came to realize that she had handed him back his change saying the drinks that he order was on the house. He simply smiled. "Thanks" He said as his faced turn red and nodded slightly at the barmaid when she said that this place wasn't his fun. It was indeed not his friend.
"You're right, it isn't my fun" He said as he placed the money in his pocket and then took out some more money. He gave her a 100 dollar bill. "There is your tip" He said smiling as he looked into her eyes for once, "By the way, I'm Kyle" He said not even sure why he was doing this. He just felt as if he were to do this.

Lana's face wasn't fake for once. She was genuinely smiling at a guy. She hadn't bothered even getting 'friendly' with the customers since Marcus, fearing she would just be hurt again. But it felt different with him, it felt... right. And when his face turned red, she giggled loudly, bursting into a big grin. Guys didn't usually blush around her, they usually treated her like dirt. The blushing was something she really didn't expect from a guy like him. Despite his natural geekyness. She wouldn't call this her idea of fun either, she hated it here. Not many people knew her past times, she was pretty much a geek herself.
When he agreed that it wasn't his fun, she nodded, leaning over the bar towards him. "I thought so." She smiled, watching him as he pulled out a bill. She couldn't see it, but when he handed it to her, their eyes locked. "Tip?" Lana asked, somewhat in a dream World. "Oh tip, right." She said, blushing slightly herself. She looked at it and stepped backwards, knocking into the spirit bottles. "Wowie." Her eyes lit up and she tucked it into her dress, not wanting any of the other barmaids to take it. "Thank you." Her grin was wider than ever, but then she looked back into his eyes. Kyle. His name was Kyle.
"I'm Lana." She said, still looking into his eyes. It was the first time ever she couldn't read a guy's mind. It was madness.

It was simply amazing that the lady in front of him was smiling. He didn’t know why it was that. He just had this gut feeling that she wanted to smile and that was just fine with him. He didn’t mind. He liked how women smiled at him. He was a geek and he thought that the best feature of a women was their smile – much better than their eyes. It was just the way who he was and that wasn’t going to stop him in his own personal opinion – not at all.
He then added that this wasn’t his cup of tea as they would say back home. He looked at her when she admitted to him that she thought so. “I’m really that bad?” He asked wondering if his facial expression had given his I don’t want to be look. As he handed her the bill the two of their eyes locked. Dear god she had the most beautiful eyes ever. He tilted his head as she was blushing slightly and watched her step backwards. He just laughed a bit and then smiled from ear to ear. “You’re welcome”
“Nice to meet you Lana” He said, with a smile looking at her in the eyes. He began to wonder if his friends would get jealous at him. He was never the one to flirt with the barmaid. He wasn’t that kind of person. Yet here he was tonight doing that it just was awkward and he liked that. He liked it very much!

Lana could tell that the man in front of her was thinking about her, and that was without even reading his mind. It was entertaining her greatly, infact... she found it quite flattering. Without looking at him, she managed to pick up a few of his thoughts. 'Geek, best feature is their smile. She smiled, her beautiful luscious lips spreading across her face as she did. It was strange, she never expected to like someone so much as she liked him. It was just natural, even though she had barely spoken to him.
The barmaid laughed further when he asked if he was that bad, "No sugar, it's not bad. I can just tell this..." She read his mind for a split second. "Isn't your cup of tea? Like you English folk say." She lifted her eyebrows jokingly, but couldn't hold a straight face until she burst out laughing. Then when her eyes locked, her grin faded into a small, loving smile. He had beautiful eyes, different to the usual boring brown or glazed blue. They were amazing, just like he was. Wait, what was she thinking? Was he really amazing? Did she even know him? No. She sighed for a moment, but it was barely audible compared to the loud drum and bass music.
An instant smile appeared once more when he said her lame. "You too Kyle." Then without effort, she began to read his mind. 'Jealousy, barmaids, flirting.' Only quick little things popped into her head, she wasn't able to read his mind fully because she wasn't looking into his eyes. "Well Kyle, your friends look... jealous over there." Lana indicated her eyes over to the booth where his friends were shaking their heads and somewhat looking as if they disapproved of what he was doing. Lana leaned over the counter, her arms pushing her cleavage together. "Maybe you should go look after them?" She smiled widely at him, not really wanting him to go.

He had no clue what was going on that someone was reading his mind. He was kind of clueless in that department. Though one would think with his ability that he would be able to find out however it just wasn’t his ability. His ability was to communicate with technology not, read people’s mind and he had no clue why the hell he was thinking that. He looked at her beautiful luscious lips. He just blinked wanting to just kiss them – he had no clue what was coming over him.
He just gave a clueless look as if he was a deer in the headlight not wanting to move. He was just having this strange feeling that something was up with her and he just couldn’t put his finger on the question at hand. He just slowly nodded. “Yeah we do bloody say that” He said as he just chuckled a bit as she bursting out laughing. He then noticed that her grin had faded as the two locked eyes and now the two of them were smiling at one another. Was this love!? Or was the atmosphere in this room making it that way?
He just felt as if the whole world had just frozen and the two of them were the only people in the room. He smiled when she said his name. He just nodded, not saying a word. He was actually speechless. Speechless indeed. He was in his own little world thinking about the barmaid when she informed him that his friends looked jealous. Oh right! He remembered he came with his friends. He looked over and saw their disapproval face. He just rolled his eyes and turned his attention back to Lana. “Na, they are all big boys” He said “I’m sure they can take care of themselves, I’m just their driver home” he stated as he just looked at her again ignoring the shouting from his friends.

Lana noticed the look on his face; confused, anxious and somewhat blank. She couldn't read it straight off, and found herself just staring at him to try and figure him out. When she continued to laugh, Kyle mumbled something briefly saying the English do say that. It wasn't exactly hard to figure out, he had the most beautiful of English accents. But when her grin faded, and her laugh stopped, Lana couldn't help but stare into thoses gorgeous eyes of his. She felt it too, that same feeling of love. But being Lana, and being the self-conscious girl she was, she figured it was just a flirt, a fling, just a silly crush.
Of course, being a guy, he was at the moment speechless. She didn't know why. Whether it was the way they were both acting, the way she looked, the way she was. She suddenly was insanely paranoid about herself, worrying she was acting wrong and being a weirdo. Her geekyness suddenly came in, and she pulled her glassed out from her bra, slipping them on quickly as she bent down. Her little black dress clung to her skinny thighs and she bent over, and she suddenly heard the thoughts of the guys at the bar. She shivered violently and looked back at Kyle. He was looking back at his friends, barely remembering they were there. "Their driver home?" She grinned at him, pushing her glasses up. As she stood up straight however, she heard one of his friends shout something. "Kyle! Stop hanging around with the whore!" She swallowed the big old lump in her throat and sighed heavily. "Maybe you should go back to your little friends." She said, feeling as though she was about to cry.

Kyle was giving awkward looks because he really didn’t know what to do. He was just in this little love trance if you would call it that that the only two people in this room seemed to be him and the barmaid. It had to be an awkward scene in his mind. He never thought not even in a million years that he would be enjoying his evening at a club flirting with the barmaid. The next thing he knew he came out of his little moment and noticed that she was looking into his eyes and he too was looking at her eyes. There was just something he hadn’t put his finger on and didn’t know what it was.
He then went into a moment of speechless. He really didn’t know why. He blinked as she went into he bra. For a moment or so he thought that she was going to summon the bouncer because he was acting like a freak or something. However it wasn’t the case she took out something and he could barely see what it was. Next thing he knew after he glanced at his friends she was wearing glasses. “Yeah” He admitted with a smile. He then sighed as he heard his friends saying that he should stop hanging with the whore. “Ignore them, they don’t mean it, they bloody better not have meant it” He muttered as he rolled his eyes. “I think your right” He finally admitted. “It was nice talking to you Lana,” he said with a smile and then headed over to his friends.

When Kyle's friends called her a whore, all feeling was lost for Lana. She felt sick. One good thing was that Kyle himself didn't laugh, if he had done, Lana would of probably thrown a drink over him. She didn't do it often, but when someone was trying to be cheap and get a laugh out of their friends, she would do it to them, then she would be laughing. "Yeah, bye." She said as he left to go be with his friends who were still snickering. She rolled her eyes and started attending a few new customers.
An hour or so passed by, and Kyle didn't return back up to the bar. Instead his friends did, trying to cop a few feels or flirts with the barmaid. Lana wasn't impressed by any of them, but had to put on a front to act as if she was interested. It got her money at the end of the day, which meant she wouldn't be working here much longer. She couldn't help but keep glancing at Kyle however, he was so cute, yet he had something serious about him. Lana couldn't read it from here. Yet she felt the need to know... not that it was any of her buisness.
Lana watched the door to see if any new faces came in, but then there was one face she didn't want to see. One of her ex's. A right nasty piece of work who found out about her ability. She hid her face, turning to face the bar. "Shit shit shit." She muttered to herself, suddenly nervous and scared. He had done unspeakable things to her before, and she didn't want to relive any of them. "Lana." She turned to face him and stared at him, her mind too busy to even read his. "John." He smirked at her, then looked at one of the dancers walk by. She gritted her teeth, same old guy he was. Before she could speak, he grabbed her arm, wrapping it tighter and tighter around her wrist. No-one was around, none of the security or her boss. This time, it was just her and him...
