30th October 2008
Rebekah was in need of some money, most of the money left to her by her parents when they died was almost gone. However Rebekah didn't want to work, at least not yet, she felt she was still too young to find a job. No she had something else planned, something very sneaky but also very naughty. Rebekah's wondering phasing powers, meant she was able to put her hands into fruit machines and grab some of the jackpot money. And this was exactly why she made her way to Las Vegas, because she knew there were plenty of arcades she could chose from.
So quickly making sure nobody was looking, she scanned the machines in this one arcade, she'd already got away with it in four previous ones. Once again she was able to get the money from two machines in this particular arcade. Now after doing it to about ten different machines, she felt she had managed to get herself enough money to keep her going for quite some time, and made her way to a bank. Handing over all the loose coins and smiling weakly.
When she was asked about it, she just smiled sweetly and said that she had been saving up money in a piggy bank at home. Once the money was safely deposited into the bank, she went for a bit of shopping. She decided to treat Snowy her cat to a lovely bed, because she kept sleeping on Rebekah's bed and she wanted the cat to sleep in a cat bed. She finally found a pet shop and saw a lovely pink fluffy bed, which immediately bought and left the shop.
She was now heading for home with the pretty cat bed, when someone came up behind her and began to attack her. She tried to use her phasing powers to get away from him, but fear had taken over and her powers were refusing to work. The guy had a strong grip on her, and he was dragging her into a dark lane.
"Help!" she screamed, but he then tried to cover her mouth up with his other free hand, she bit down on his hand, and he yelped, but wouldn't let go of her. "Help, someone!" she screamed again, but this time the man pinned her up against the wall with his hands around her neck, and pulled out some tape from his pocket and tore off a piece to place across her mouth. Rebekah could only look on in horror wondering what he was going to do next. Please God make someone come and help me soon she prayed to herself.

Henry was bored out of his mind. At first the idea of going to Las Vegas with his brother sounded fun. James had to do a report on...something, Henry was sure what, and he couldn't, or wouldn't, leave a seventeen year old boy alone in an apartment in Manhattan. That just spelled party. So a few hours of waiting, two tickets, and a search through customs later, the Ward brothers were in Vegas. Of course Henry couldn't wait to hit the nearest club, but there was one thing he over looked. He was seventeen. So now as James was doing god knows what for his job, Henry was walking around town.
He had first thought about going into some arcades, but he didn't have that much money on him. James was smart enough to know Henry would spend it on something useless. HE only had enough for food and that was if he got something off the dollar menu from McDonalds. As he was walking around the corner, he could have sworn he heard something. Pausing, Henry listened closely. The sound of the city was annoying, but he concentrated and soon picked up the sound of someone calling for help.
Instincts took over and Henry found his feet moving on their own. Turning a corner into an alley, Henry found some guy trying to do something unmentionable to a girl around his age. "Hey!" the boy called out. Henry ran and tackled the guy off his prey.

Rebekah was scared for her life right about now. No matter how hard she tried to concentrate, her phasing abilities refused to work on her. The guys hands were closing in around her neck, tighter and tighter. She was finding it more and more difficult to breathe. Her eyes were bulging almost out of their sockets, she was sure she was just inches away from certain death.
That was when she noticed him. She shook her head as if to say not to come closer, or to help, but hadn't she shouted for help in the first place? But he looked young like her, and Rebekah didn't want anything happening to him because of her. But it was too late, he'd tackled the guy, and as he did so, the guys grip loosened on Rebekah's neck.
At the same time her power came into focus, as the fear began to disperse, and she was able to phase herself out from his grip altogether. Now anger had taken over. She was thankful to the guy's help, but this other person wasn't going to hurt anybody else, as she grabbed him and pushed him toward the wall and phased herself into along with him, at least half way through the thick wall anyway and left him there and pulled herself back out.
Then she realised she'd just used her powers in front of someone, and immediately her face glowed red. She turned round to look at him, "Ehm, thanks for the...you...know...help" she stammered, as she began to walk away from him, unsure of what he would think of her.

Henry had managed to pull the guy off the girl. However, as he stumbled, he lost his grip and fell. He got back up on his feet just in time to see the girl he had been trying to save, phase herself and her attacker through the wall. Well, halfway through the wall at least. She pulled herself out and left the guy there. Common sense had told Henry that the end result was probably not a pleasant one.
He heard her stammer a thank you and he saw her walk off. Any normal person would've just sat there scared out of their mind that someone just phased through a wall. However, Henry was no normal person. Like this girl, Henry had his own powers, although not as cool, but still. He knew what it was like to have powers. Getting up, he followed her.
"Hey, wait up." he ran after her, trying to catch up. "Wait up a minute will ya?" he said. He finally caught up to her and he began walking the same pace. "Back there. How'd you do that?" he asked. Stupid question, but still. He was curious.

Rebekah was walking, and walking fast. She had to get away from the scene, had to get away from what she had just done, had to get away from the young guy she'd just shown the nasty side of her ability to. She was embarrassed, but mostly she was just furious from the attack and having to do such a dreadful thing in the first place. She'd just killed that guy she'd phased into the wall.
Of course she could have ripped his heart out, but the wall thing was less messy.
She heard footsteps behind her, and she began to speed up, she couldn't face the guy, she just couldn't. But then he'd came to her rescue, and he was now telling her to wait up as he caught up with her finally.
She stopped and looked at him, she hadn't wanted to face him, because tears were running down her cheeks. She wiped at them, as she tried to talk to him.
"Nothing... I just... it's nothing, you wouldn't understand" she tried to explain. "And I didn't mean to be so rude, but, well I'm sorry" she stammered again, as she once again tried to wipe away the tears from her face.

Henry was glad that the girl had finally decided to stop walking so fast. A guy could only keep up so much. He saw the tears in her eyes and he tried not to panic. He couldn't handle it when girls cry. He had picked it up from his brother. Every time he saw a girl cry, he'd panic and start rambling, trying to calm himself and the girl down. It was always a mess and right now was no different.
"Wo, what's with the tears. Come on don't, don't cry." he said. "Look you don't got anything to be sorry about. I understand. Really." he said.

She hadn't meant to start crying, she hated crying. She was stronger than that, and now she was just mad at herself for crying in the first place. Especially in front of a guy. When he stammered and asked her not to cry it just made her feel worse. She'd killed that guy. That's basically what she'd done.
She wasn't sure she liked using her powers for bad either. She was mixed up. She'd used her powers for good a few times, saving a baby from a trapped burning car, but when Rebekah's temper got going, her power always turned nasty.
She finally stopped walking altogether and just looked at him, as she composed herself, and the tears stopped falling at last. "You do?" she asked with a slight frown, "You understand why I did what I did, even though I killed him?" she asked, her voice trembling. Was she about to make a friend? She began to wonder, and she hoped she had.

Henry was glad she stopped crying. He composed himself a little bit as well. He could tell that she was having issues. It wasn't everyday that someone kills someone and not feel guilty about it later. Ok, there were those psychos that didn't care for others, but Henry could tell this girl wasn't like them. He could tell she was beating herself up inside.
"Yeah, I understand." he told her, "you were just trying to defend yourself is all. I mean if I could move through solid objects I would've done the same thing. Granted maybe a little less violent but still. You've got nothing to worry about." he told her. He had hoped his words had helped her some what.
"Besides, you're not the only one in the world with super powers." Henry told her. "Although mine aren't exactly as cool."

Rebekah was shaking. She couldn't stop shaking. She had done a terrible thing, and yet he seemed to understand. She should have just pushed the guy through the other side, there was no way he'd have got back over through the wall, it had been a very high one. But it was too late, she'd done it and that was that. She had to get over it.
"You're being so.. nice" she said softly, as she began to smile finally. "And I was defending myself, but...the power it gets the better of me when I'm angry and not in a good way" she said as she explained some more about her ability. She knew she wasn't alone in the world, she knew others had abilities like hers, but til this moment she didn't realise he had one himself.
She began to relax more when he said he had super powers of his own. Although he didn't make them sound as impressive as her powers.
"So what power do you have then?" Rebekah asked him with a warm smile and very interested. Then she realised she hadn't even introduced herself. "I'm Rebekah, by the way, Rebekah Taylor, it's nice to meet you" she said as she gave him a bigger and better smile.

Henry smiled politely at the girl. She seemed to finally calm down. He was glad to know he wasn't the only one to have a side effect with their power. Although he hadn't heard of anyone going psycho with their power. He assumed it was that time of month, but he wasn't going to say that out loud. He learned the hard way to never insinuate a girl's power with that time.
"I think it's called intuitive aptitude or something like that. I can basically understand anything and then be able to do it. Don't even need to study." he answered when she asked what he could do. "Not exactly impressive, but it comes in handy from time to time."
He was finally glad to have a name for that face. "Henry Ward, nice to meet you Rebekah. You live around here? My brother and I are in town for some job he has to do and I was trying to find a McDonalds when I ran into you." he said, returning a smile.

Rebekah felt much better, now she had managed to calm herself down. She hated when she got angry and she hated when her powers went out of control the way it did earlier. But the only way she could feel better about it was to think she had just defended herself. If she hadn't frozen earlier, she'd have used her powers on him a lot sooner, but fear had taken over. Her power had two extremes it would seem. Extreme fear made her powers freeze and extreme anger made her powers go into overdrive.
"Ah, I think I have heard of someone having that ability, and you know it's not such a bad thing to have" she said kindly, smiling at him again. "Not having to study to understand anything? That's kinda cool in my eyes" she said meaning it.
"No, I don't actually live here, I actually live around Costa Verde, I came here to..." she trailed off, could she really tell him what she had come here to do? He seemed to understand about killing someone and that was a lot worse.
Blushing slightly before telling him the truth, "I came here to use my ability to get money from some of the fruit machines, I live on my own, parents died when I was young. Lived in and out of foster homes, never felt like I truly belonged, never felt loved" she rambled slightly, all of a sudden giving him pretty much her full life story.
"Ran out of money and had to feed myself and the cat" she added, and then looked down at her feet. He must think she's a right horror. Stealing money, killing people.

Henry was glad that Rebekah seemed to be feeling better. She looked calm and there were no more tears. He never did like girls crying. He enjoyed seeing her smile. From what he could tell, or gathered from his powers, her emotions really affected her powers. It was obvious that if she hadn't been scared earlier, she might of been able to phase out of her attacker's grip. And it was obvious what she could do when pissed.
"Yeah, being able to know things like the back of my hand after I saw it does come in handy." he said, "although I think I would have preferred a different way of learning where babies came from." he joked.
Henry listened to Rebekah tell her life story. Sure he didn't agree with the whole stealing idea, but you do what you have to do in order to survive. Life was hard, he knew that, and he could sort of relate about losing loved ones. He was just happy to have his brother watching out for him. "Don't worry, I don't judge you for trying to survive."

"Of course it's handy Henry, I sure as hell wish if I was to have a power at all, it was something more controlled like what you have" she said smiling. He had an amazing ability, and one which wouldn't prove dangerous with emotions, of that she was sure.
"Oh and what way of learning where babies come from did you have in mind?" she asked him, teasing ever so slightly. She couldn't help it, it was a wide open sentence.
"Thanks Henry, for not judging me, maybe I should get myself a job, and then I wont have to do such things" she said sadly, but meaning every word. "Oh and I just remembered, didn't you say you had been looking for a McDonalds? Why don't we try find one together, I'm rather hungry, I can treat you for being my Knight in Shining Armour" she said with a grin.

Henry laughed at the baby comment. "Trust me, you don't want to know. I think it was the first time I ever used my powers." Henry shivered at the memory. Scary thing for a little kid to see. "As for the job, well, to each his own right. I prefer mooching off my brother for as long as I can." he admitted.
"Hey, I thought the guys were supposed to treat the ladies." he said, reaching into his pocket. His grin slipped and he reached into his other pocket. After realizing he left his wallet back at the motel room, Henry gave Rebekah a sly grin. "Well, maybe just this once."

When Henry laughed at her baby comment, Rebekah laughed along as well. "Oh, okay then, I wont ask" Rebekah said laughing again. "Oh you were quite young when you found out about where babies come from?" she asked him, "No wonder you don't want to talk about it" she added with a grin.
"As for the job thing, well in truth, I haven't had the energy to go and look for one, and truthfully, am not sure I want to, but I can't keep alive on fresh air, now can I?" she asked, teasing a little, but being honest at the same time.
"Well so the rule says, but why can't a girl treat a guy for a change?" she challenged him, and then laughed a little. She watched as he tried to search for a wallet, and failed to find it. Then slyly said that she could pay this once.
"As I planned to do anyway" she said grinning, Rebekah looked ahead and saw a McDonald's about five minutes walk away. "Look, there's one over there, will only take us about five minutes to get there" she said grinning and pointing in the direction of the big yellow M.
