Saturday 9th January, 2010 It was the end of another shift for Elena at the bar in Queens. She loved her job for the most part but sometimes she could run into trouble but usually it happened in the bar. It was better when it happened in the bar even though it shouldn’t happen at all, because the boss would always jump to her defence and get the idiots thrown out or banned. Steve had already locked up and had offered Elena a lift home but she had refused saying she felt like walking in the cool air, besides she didn’t stay too far away from the bar where she worked, so what could possibly go wrong? Well, that might just have been the very wrong thing for her to think. As she walked along the sidewalk she thought she could hear footsteps behind her of someone possibly following her. Every time she stopped the footsteps behind did the same thing. It’s alright Elena, she thought to herself, it’s just your imagination. So she began to walk again and once more she heard the footsteps behind her. So realising that maybe she was wrong to think it was her imagination she began to speed up and the footsteps behind did the same thing. Now she was beginning to freak out. She didn’t have too far to go to reach her apartment but it was far enough. She stopped and turned abruptly but there was nobody there. Elena had the ability to self heal, so she never usually bothered about getting physically hurt, but being able to heal didn’t mend a broken heart caused by relationship break ups and it didn’t mend painful memories so Elena usually tried to avoid confrontation as much as possible, although it was often difficult because she could be a bit ditzy at times and with being so gullible usually found herself in trouble no matter what she did to avoid it. Unfortunately to get to her apartment she had to walk down an alley, which she was now approaching. As she turned to walk down the alley that’s when she felt the hand go around her neck and she began to scream out loud. “What do you want, get off of me.” As she struggled to free herself the person who had grabbed her from behind threw her down the alley, they were obviously a special like she was and had immense strength. Elena was thrown so far that when she landed it was on top of a set of broken ladders with the rungs impaling her through the chest. Even for being able to heal it doesn’t stop it from hurting and Elena let out a blood curdling scream and then she fainted with the pain leaving the attacker to think they had killed her and they went running down the alley in the opposite direction.

It was quiet on the rooftop of the garage in Queens. Dexter was perched on the edge of the roof, his wings spanning a massive twelve foot altogether. The night was drawing to an end as the bars and restuarants closed and the businessmen on their thirteen hour shifts were finally going home. He listened... to every sound, every whisper. It was like a jigsaw, they all slotted in alignment with each other. Dexter folded one arm over his knee and closed his eyes, fitting all the jigsaw pieces together in his mind.
"Dexter! Where the hell are ya? Gotta close the doors for me kid!" Dexter opened his eyes and sighed. He stood up and hovered in the air before dashing downwards towards the garage doors. He landed and rolled his eyes at Whistler. "Not as quick as last time." Dexter smirked, "Keeping tabs old man?" Whistler let out a loud 'HA!' before choking on the smoke from his cigarette. Dexter flew up again and pulled the large garage doors down before squeezing through the gap. His wings folded neatly behind him. "You know old man, those will kill you." "Ha, tell me something I don't know." Dexter rolled his eyes again and slowly walked up to him. "You're lucky to have me around, heal your lungs..." Whistler smiled, turning around to look at Dexter. "I said something I don't know." Dexter smiled and patted him on the shoulder, "Anyway, I'm off old man. See you tomorrow afternoon." The old man sighed and nodded, "Yeah take care kid."
As Dexter squeezed back through the gap between the garage doors he pulled the final 'gap' door shut and began walking 'home'. Ten minutes later he was on the rooftop of a block of apartments, looking down at the small alleyway between it and another apartment block. He heard footsteps suddenly and jerked his head around the corner where he saw a man following a young woman. He listened carefully and watched them both. By the sound of the guy's heartbeat Dexter could tell he was up to no good. Before he knew it, the guy grabbed the young woman's throat and proceded to throw her with amazing strength down the other end of the alleyway. Dexter was horrified. He watched her be thrown onto a set of broken ladders, she was impaled immediately and screamed a piercing scream.
The special started running away. Dexter swooped down and grabbed him by his collar, he dragged him along the alleyway like a garbage bag. The girl moaned in pain. Dexter lifted the special up, and the folded wings now spread out again. The man started to scream. "You kill her, I kill you." The man started to turn a frightful green colour before letting out an inhumane scream. Dexter was killing him in one of the most painful ways he could, burning his insides slowly before turning him to ash. When there was nothing but an ash pile left, Dexter walked to the small frame now dead. He sighed deeply and took a deep breath before carefully lifting her off the ladders and laying her down on the ground. "I'm sorry child." He touched his palm to her forehead and began seeing her life as a child. But before he knew it, he saw something he didn't expect. Dexter backed off immediately, scowling at the little frame. "An evolved human... you can heal." He grunted and slowly began to walk away.

Elena couldn’t believe she had refused the lift from Steve when she had that feeling of being followed. It would seem she would never learn. How stupid did you really have to be? Even if she could heal people like Elena tried not to show their abilities off in public, what happened if he hurt her and she began to heal just as a non special went walking by her? The pain of being impaled on the broken ladder rungs had made her scream out loud and she had then began to struggle to free herself but soon the pain took hold of her and she had fainted. It gave the impression that she had died and the special who had thrown her had began to run away.
Soon Elena felt herself being lifted from the broken ladders and this made her begin to come around again as the wounds where she had been impaled began to close over. She felt her body being laid on the ground and then she felt his hand on her head. She tried to focus as her life returned to her, but whoever had lifted her from the broken ladders must have thought she was dead when he said he was sorry, calling her child. It made her frown slightly wondering who he was, as he couldn’t have been much older than her, if he even was older than her.
Then he suddenly backed away from her muttering the words of her being an evolved human and that she could heal. He was scowling at her and now Elena didn’t know whether she should be just as scared over him as she was over the special who had thrown her onto the broken ladders before and yet something about him seemed to stop her from feeling scared of him. She didn’t know what it was and it was almost as if he had a glow emitting from his body. With the wounds now fully healed and her energy back she sat up a little but remained on the ground. Elena was going to speak to him to thank him for his help but he began to walk away.
She quickly got up off the ground and ran up to him, “Thank you for getting me off those broken ladders. Why does my kind seem to bother you so much?” She asked in a curious voice, even in the dark of the night she could see that he was very handsome and buff but Elena had so much trouble with guys she wasn’t about to make a fool of herself, or at least she hoped not. She didn’t even know why she had begun to follow him other than she was for some reason a little fascinated with him now because she was sure there was something different about him, but she didn’t know what. “I’m Elena by the way.” She added as she fixed her jacket so that she could cover the holes which had been made on her top forgetting that the holes would still be visible on the back of her jacket.

It hadn't occured to Dexter how beautiful this human was. He was too angry. He had taken a life away, and as much as they had deserved it, he hated doing it nowadays. Then again, sometimes it felt really good... too good. He was the Angel Of Life, but sometimes, taking away lives that didn't deserve to live was one of the best things; Rapists, murderers, child abusers, domestic violence abusers, greed and glutton filled men... they all deserved to die in God's eyes. Dexter was the one inflicting their death if they ever came across him and it felt good, every single time to know that not only he killed them, but soon they would be meeting their 'maker' so to speak.
Dexter's wings suddenly spread across the alleyway, almost touching both walls on either side of him. His hands clenched into fists as he began to walk away, muttering to himself as he did. "As I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me..." He could hear the girl get up and begin running to him. She hadn't done anything wrong, he couldn't just kill her. Despite having anger issues with the human race, he still loved them. Dexter heard her thanking him, then asking her why 'her kind' seemed to bother him so much. He stopped dead in his path. Dexter closed his eyes and turned, the wings still fully spanned. Of course she wouldn't be able to see them.
"Your kind? I just killed a man, turned him to ash because of you. Sure, he deserved it, but you weren't actually dead. You were just..." He paused and pouted in frustration, "You were just... I don't know." Dexter began to walk away again, his fists still clenched in a ball. He then stopped suddenly again as he heard her say her name. Elena. He turned and looked at her. It didn't occur to him he was actually studying her, the way she moved, the way she spoke, the way she was. Elena began fixing her jacket so she could cover the holes on her top. Dexter held a chuckle, she was slightly ditzy by the looks of it. Her jacket had holes in too... or was she just unaware? Ha. "Elena..." He paused, rolling his eyes slightly as he thought about it. "Suits you." He smirked at her and tilted his head. "I'm Dexter. You should go home, it's dangerous around here... as you already know." He turned to leave again but stopped himself, she was fascinating yet he barely knew her. Maybe it was that, the fact she was so mysterious. Dexter sighed to himself.

When Elena had been lifted off the ladders by the handsome stranger her wounds had begun to heal and that’s when she saw him back away from her like he was disgusted and the only thing she could think disgusted him was the fact she was an Evolved Human. She had no idea that he had taken the life of the man he thought had taken hers. Why would she? She had no idea angels even existed, oh she was fascinated by the supernatural and read about it constantly but she didn’t believe any of it actually existed, strange really for a girl who could self heal. She had picked herself up off the ground and ran after him thanking him and then asking why her kind seemed to bother him so much, she almost ran into his back as he suddenly came to a stop. As he turned round she flinched back slightly not sure at first if he was going to hurt her now he knew what she was. Then he began to speak and Elena could sense the anger and frustration in his voice.
“Well I’m sorry you took his life, I didn’t ask you to do that, how was I to know you would have done that?” Elena replied in a slightly stronger voice finding her inner independence and then finding a little bit of anger and frustration in her as well. She might like the fact she can heal from things, but at the same time she hated being different from normal humans. “Do you think I like being like this? Do you think I like being different, because I don’t. It might be good to be able to heal from anything but it doesn’t make me normal and I don’t like that.” He had begun to walk away from her again and Elena wondered if she should just leave him, why would she want to talk to someone who seemed to be so bitter toward her? She should just leave but the same thing from before compelled her to continue following him.
She then introduced herself which made him stop again suddenly and this time she did bump into him, “S...sorry.” She mumbled and then saw him turn and look at her, it looked like he was taking everything in about her, and she wasn’t sure if she liked that feeling or not. She bit down her bottom lip slightly. Then he repeated her name and for some reason the way he said it sent slight shivers down her spine but she shook it off. He then added that it suited her, she gave him a weak smile as she brushed some of her hair awkwardly behind her ear. “Thanks.” It was said almost in a shy voice. He then sort of smiled and tilted his head, which made her bite on down on her finger slightly as he then gave his own name, but then he added that she should go home because it was dangerous as she already knew.
She took her finger from her mouth, “Dexter, I like that name.” Dexter once again started to walk away, what was with this guy, she thought, as she began to sort of walk quickly in a run to catch up with him again not realising he had already stopped once more. Sadly she wasn’t watching where she was going and she soon bumped into him again and landed in a heap on the ground, her palms all grazed, not that it bothered her, they would heal soon enough. What she hadn’t noticed however, was as she fell the book she was currently reading had fallen out of her bag. It was a book about the supernatural and it just happened to fall open on a page about angels. She tried to get up so she could gather her stuff together, but she must have sprained her ankle which hadn’t quite healed yet and she winced as she stood up.
“I uhm, I don’t really believe in it or anything, I’m just fascinated about it all.” She said not even sure if Dexter had noticed her falling or even heard what she said, but she said it anyway.

When the girl answered back Dexter clenched his fists. "I did it because he didn't deserve to live, don't you get it?" He felt his wings twich behind him. He could hear the confidence in her voice and couldn't help but smirk. At least she wasn't afraid of him, mind you, she should be. Dexter, despite being an angel was dangerous, he caused events that no one else could cause. He could kill someone just by looking at them and he drawed the worst kind of people, not to mention demons who were constantly trying to despose of him. Finding a human who wasn't afraid of him except for Whistler was somewhat pleasing. Yet he was still furious and had to calm down. But she spoke again so he listened, staring at the ground where she stood. All he could do was smirk, she had no idea did she?
So Dexter kept walking, turning his back on her once more. She introduced herself as Elena and walked to him as he stopped, he backed away within the blink of an eye, breathing heavily all of a sudden. She mumbled sorry and he held his hand out, stopping her from coming near him. "Just stay where you are." When he had composed himself he turned and began looking at her, still not realizing he was studying her face. He then repeated her name and said how it suited her. He watched as Elena bit down on her finger slightly, the hairs on his arms stood up and he gasped in shock, glaring at her all of a sudden. He reluctantly gave Elena his own name and told her it was dangerous here and she should leave.
As Elena told him how she liked his name, Dexter once again began to walk away. He could hear her quiet footsteps behind him and found himself stopping, he hated having to be this way. He felt her little frame bump right into him, and he turned, watching her as she fell to heap on the ground. He sighed heavily and looked at her things fall on the ground. A book caught Dexter's eye, it was about the supernatural and he stepped forward, gently bending down to look at it. The pages that were visible were about angels and people's various views on them. He saw the diagram of an angel that looked like his brother Gabriel.
Elena then tried to get up, Dexter being so fascinated with her book forgot she was even there and looked at her suddenly. "Sprained ankle? I would heal you, but looks like you can do that perfectly well on your own." He smirked and looked back at the book. Elena then tried to explain herself, saying she didn't really believe in it or anything and that she was just fascinated by it. The smirk remained on his face as he realised his wings were fully spread and the light around him was bright to anyone that believed in angels or anyone who was religious. "Well guess you don't believe in it, otherwise you'd be seeing me for what I truly am." He stood up, noticing she had healed now.
Dexter held his hand out to her and waited to see if she would take, "I apologise for my earlier fury and rudeness, it's just... difficult to show or explain what I am. I'm not supposed too."
