9th Decemeber 2009
Matt stood in front of the White House with his boss, dressed in his secret service suit that was usually worn for security missions such as this. While his boss saw this as security, Matt saw it as babysitting. Which was what he was doing. The First Daughter was going out. And such it was required to have someone of extreme skill to supervise and protect her. That person was Matt, as no one else in the secret service had his skills. That was his power mimicking skills. Matt had the ability to instantly mimic a person's ability on skin contact if he chose to, making him the ideal soldier.
Matt stood by as the boss introduced Matt to the head of the White House security team, Matt saluting the head guard before being escorted to the First Daughter's quarters. "Ms. Petrelli is going out today and it is your job to ensure that nothing goes wrong." The guard told Matt, Matt simply nodding. "Yes sir..." He simply said, his face neutral and focused. "Remember, if anything happens to her, y..." The guard began, Matt raising a hand to him to shush him.
"Nothing's going to happen. Be sure of that. Sir." He said as they stopped in front of Claire's room, Matt standing up straight as he faced the door as the guard opened it. "Ms. Petrelli, your escort for the day is here." The guard said to her, Matt just looking at her with serious eyes.

Claire was going out, why she didn’t know, but it was without Wade as he was busy and as usual security was coming down hard and was insisting she had a bodyguard with her. It was ridiculous, she didn’t need one, she was only going clothes shopping and she couldn’t even die, she’d tried to kill herself countless times. Hell she’d even walked out of a burning house with the skin virtually burned off leaving her skull on show and the skin just reformed back onto her face, so why did they think it was necessary for her to have a bodyguard with her? It wasn’t as if she could die if someone even tried to fire a gun at her. Of course she knew the real reason for the added security, ever since she had her baby phased out of her all those months ago and she chose to live with Nathan feeling safer there than anywhere else, he always made sure she went nowhere without a bodyguard.
Alright, so thinking back to that time in California, maybe a bodyguard wasn’t such a bad thing, but it was still very frustrating, that everywhere you went, they were there at your back. What if she wanted to go to the toilet? Would they ask to follow her in there too? She shook her head thinking about it. Just then the door to her room was opened and Claire swung round with a furious look on her face, how dare they just open her door without even at least knocking first to make sure she was in a fit state of dress. She then grabbed her bag and threw her jacket on and then glaring at the guard she pointed her finger at him, “I could have been in a state of undress, how dare you not even think to knock the door first. You can be assured that my father will hear about this.”
Claire then caught the other guy standing with the guard whom she could only assume was her chosen bodyguard for the day. She marched passed the guard and looked into the eyes of the supposed bodyguard, “Well, if you have to follow me around like a puppy then come along, I’m leaving now.” She rolled her eyes and began making her way down the corridors and heading for the main entrance. Once she was outside, she turned to the bodyguard whom she hadn’t met before, “Just tell me you will not be following me into any toilets, please.” She then opened the door to her car, and began heading toward the city center. Oh joyful day here we come, she thought to herself as she pulled out of the grounds of the White House after the gates were opened.

Matt's face remained neutral as the guard opened the door, Ms. Petrelli obviously not pleased at the fact that she been barged into. "My apologies, but we are on a schedule." The guard said as Claire walked past him, looking at Matt and saying that if he was to follow her like a puppy, to come along. What the hell was with this girl? Just because she was the president's daughter, didn't give her the right to be a bitch to someone who's just doing his job. But then again Matt disliked politics in any shape or form.
Matt simply nodded to her as a reply as he followed Claire outside, heading towards the car. She then asked him if he was going to be following her into bathrooms or the such. Matt just raised an eyebrow. "Well I don't know what of guy you take for, Ms. Petrelli, but I can assure you I'll respect your privacy as much as possible." He said to her, thinking why the hell would a male security guard need to follow her into a bathroom.
When they were in the car, Matt just looked ahead at the road. "Trust me, I don't want to be doing this, anymore than you want me to be here. Your father just thought you'd relate better to someone like you." He said to her, his tone professional and neutral.

When the guard apologised to Claire saying they were on a schedule, she just glared at him, “Fine, but it still doesn’t give you an excuse to open a woman’s bedroom door without knocking first. Have you no manners?” Claire didn’t think she was in the wrong by saying what she said; after all, which young woman liked having men just walk into their room without knocking the door? Even her father Nathan knocked on the door before walking in, it was only common courtesy, something this guard obviously didn’t have and yes she would tell Nathan about it, the guard would probably soon find himself reprimanded or without a job. She sighed then after grabbing her bag and jacket and made her way past him.
When Claire had asked Matt if he was going to follow her into any toilets she was only going on past experience, it had happened a few times, or at least they had tried until she told them quite clearly where to go. She saw his eyebrow raise, which meant he must have thought she was off her head for asking, well he obviously hadn’t been around any of the other guards she’d had before. When he replied, she gave him a weak smile, “Sorry, but I’ve had a few who have just thought it was the right thing to do to follow me in there.” Claire should have known better than to judge everybody the same, because not everybody was the same, but it was the Secret Service, when you had one try to protect you, you had them all.
Once they were inside the car and Claire began to make her way to the city center she heard the guy speak saying that he didn’t want to be there anymore than she wanted him there. She side glanced to him and she had a feeling he was telling the truth. “I’m glad we’re on the same page.” However he continued saying that her father thought she would relate to someone who was like her. She snapped her head back round to him, you didn’t say that kind of thing unless you were an Evolved Human as well.
“So, you’re someone like me? What can you do then?” She was trying to focus on the road and her driving, and when the next set of traffic lights turned to red, she faced him. “So, you’re obviously not like the rest of them, I have no real need to be hostile to you, do you have a name?” She gave him a warm smile waiting on him to reply. Claire wasn’t a complete bitch, but she’d had a tough life so really it was no real surprise she was a little hardened at times.

Matt's face let out a slightly weak smile as she apologized for asking, saying she had agents do that sort of thing in the past. Matt just raised an eyebrow again at that statement. "Are you serious? If I was your dad, I'd be pissed." Matt said, his face returning to a neutral look as he entered the car and as they took off, he just stared ahead at the road, watching the scenery pass them by as they drove.
He did let out a smile when she replied to him, saying that they were on the same page. At least she wasn't a total bitch 24 hours a day. However his next comment made her snap her head towards him, Matt looking at her with a worried look. "Eyes on the damn road!" He said in a panicked tone, pointing in front of him as she turned back. She then asked what he could do. Oh she'd get a kick out of this one...
"Well... I can do what your uncle does. I touch people and I can mimic their powers. So I'm kinda like a super spy, only the gadgets are the powers I pick up." He said, hoping she wasn't going freak out again. He kinda wanted to return her without blood on her clothing or his. However he next comment threw his guard off a bit. She said she had no real reason to be hostile to him and he was different from the rest. That was nice... Being nice to someone who could relate to you. He could relate to that funnily enough.
"Matthew. Matthew Tobruk. Or Matt if you wish." He said with a smile back to her, bowing his head at her respectably.

{ooc - sorry it took so long}
Claire had to let out a small laugh when the guy asked if she was serious and if he was her dad he’d be pissed. “Yes, I’m serious and trust me, they are no longer working for us. I usually have the same person now who gets me, so when I saw someone new, well you can understand my hesitation.” He seemed to be very serious she thought, well given his job she figured she couldn’t expect him to be any other way. She never got a laugh out of any of the others, so why should he be any different. Although she had finally managed to crack through the exterior of Tommy and the two of them often had a good laugh together when security insisted she had a guard accompany her.
When Claire said she was glad they were on the same page she saw him smile, but she wasn’t going to get her hopes up about cracking the surface too soon. He had then continued to speak mentioning about being like her, and this had made her snap her head round to him. Naturally that move panicked him, and he told her to get eyes on the road in a panicked voice, it didn’t matter to Claire if she got into a car accident, she’d just heal from it anyway, but as of yet she had no idea what it was he could do. “Sorry, you just took me by surprise.” She replied as she began to concentrate on the road again. She had then asked him what it was he could do.
When he spoke she couldn’t believe that he had the same ability as Peter. “That’s a pretty cool ability you have there then, I honestly thought Peter was the only one with that sort of power. So you could mimic my power and then it wouldn’t matter if I crashed the car, we’d both survive.” She side glanced to him and then began to laugh a little turning back to face the road again, “I am just teasing, sorry.” She then took that opportunity to ask his name, at least then she could refer to him by name if necessary. She smiled at him as he replied to her question, “Well it is very nice to meet you Matt.” After another five minutes of driving Claire had reached the city center. She parked the car into the nearest car park and soon she was getting out. Once Matt was out of the car she pushed the button to put the alarm on.
“You know I don’t envy you your job at all, I mean I’m going clothes shopping, aren’t you going to feel out of your comfort zone somewhat having to come in and out of all these women’s clothes shops?” She wasn’t being funny at all, and although she was smiling to show she was still having no animosity toward him, she could feel his pain in a way. The only time a male should go clothes shopping, at least in Claire’s mind was a girl’s boyfriend and even then they didn’t always like it.

When Claire had said she had been taken by surprise that Matt was an evolved human like her, he just looked at her with a curious look. "Um... You do know there are about a million more of us out there, that could be doing any job?" He asked her, smiling weakly as he looked back to the road. She may have the ability to heal, but Matt had that power too, and he didn't want to get blood and guts over his clothes or hers. Imagine bringing her home like that?
When she commented on his ability, saying that she thought Peter was the only one, Matt just smiled. "Well I know 2 other people with my ability, so it's rare, but not as rare as you think." He said to her, Emilie and Alex immediately coming to mind. And shortly afterwards, the date with Emilie he would be going on. His mind snapped away from that thought as Claire said Matt could mimic her power. He just smiled weakly. "Um, I already have your ability. That was the first power I ever mimicked." He said. Yeah, it was the ability that his grandfather had nearly killed him over. He knew regens needed a shot to the head, or decapitation to truly die.
When Claire stopped the car and they had both exited, she said she didn't envy his job, that he would be going in and out of women's clothes shops, Matt just smiled. "See, that's the part where I get to go in, kick everyone out by sending them telepathic commands, and you get the whole store to yourself." He said, looking at her for a moment before snickering a little. "Just kidding..." He said.

Claire soon realised how stupid what she had said must have sounded when Matt looked at her curiously and then commented that there were a lot more of them out there. Well of course she knew that there were a lot of them out there, it was just the first time one of the bodyguards had turned out to be one, then again, it was the first time one had admitted to being a special, so he was right. She looked at him, and bit on the inside of her cheek for a second, “I know there are plenty more of us out there, but never really thought about it as them doing a job, but you’re right, everybody needs to make money. Just call it a blonde moment.” She didn’t know what else to say or to put it down to, it was after all rather stupid for her to have said what she said. She then just laughed a little. Awkward! She thought to herself.
When Matt revealed his power to her and she commented that she thought Peter was the only one with the ability Matt had, he said he knew of at least another two with his power, so it was rare but not as rare as she obviously thought. “I see. I mean I know it is possible for more than one person to have the same power, I mean West could fly as well as my dad, so...” She trailed off for a second, “...but with that one, I honestly thought Peter was the only one with it. So I guess you learn something new every day.” She gave him a smile quickly before turning back to the road.
When Claire said he could mimic her power and then she could crash the car and it wouldn’t matter as they would both survive, she had of course been teasing and soon let him know that, but Matt answered saying he already had her power, it was the first one he had mimicked. “Oh, you do? So, it really wouldn’t have mattered if I had crashed the car then?” She was messing around again, and laughed a little, “Just teasing again, sorry.” She really should concentrate on what she was doing, it was alright to tease about it, but really how would it look if she wrecked the car and the two of them came walking out as if nothing had happened?
After Claire had parked up the car and told Matt she didn’t envy him his job, he smiled and then said that this was the part he got to go in and kick everyone out so she could have the store to herself. Claire smiled smugly at that thinking about it for a second, “You know that doesn’t sound like a totally bad idea.” However Claire wasn’t really that spoiled and she could somehow tell that Matt was messing around, so she began to giggle slightly, “Just teasing too. But you know, you might actually make a good friend.” She then walked into the first store, the one where she was hoping to get a new winter jacket, what with the winter approaching, and the minute she walked in she had virtually all eyes staring at her. Usually it didn’t bother her, but for some reason today, maybe because Wade wasn’t with her, it was unnerving her slightly.
She turned to Matt, “Uhm, maybe this wasn’t such a good idea after all.”

When Claire reacted to Matt's comment about his ability, saying that she thought that power mimicry was exclusively Peter's ability, Matt just shook his head. "Nope. There's a few of us out there. The CIA has a couple from the Middle East on watch, in case of them wanting to try something..." Matt said, shaking his head in disapproval. "I wouldn't be surprised if your uncle is being watched as well." He said, with a low tone. It was highly likely as Matt was being watched as well.
Matt just smiled as Claire commented on the car crashing, as both could heal. Yeah... but then he'd have to explain about why the President's daughter was covered in blood. So when they arrived and went into the shops, Claire deciding to go to a clothes store first. She laughed and joked back about his comment about making everyone leave and even said he might make a good friend. "Well it's good to know that I now have a friend in high places." He said with a chuckle, smiling at her warmly. "But yeah, maybe you'll enjoy my company a bit more then." He said with a smile.
However he saw that everyone was looking at her as she shopped. It was stupid how people gawked at people of importance. She was a normal girl. She couldn't even shop in peace. When she said maybe this wasn't a good idea, Matt just smiled at her. "I'll handle this..." He said as he turned to everyone looking at her, tilting his head slightly to the side as he accessed his telepathy. Soon everyone turned away and began to shop normally, ignoring Claire, as though she were a normal person.
"They won't bother you, since they've temporarily forgotten who you are." He said with a smile. "As you were, Ms. Petrelli." He added, standing up straight and looking away from Claire, allowing her to shop in peace.

{ooc - I honest to god hope I never take as long as this to reply anywhere again - but I guess never say never, now I have added responsibilities}
Claire just shook her head slightly in bewilderment as Matt said there were a few mimickers out there. She honest to god thought that Peter was the only one, she hadn’t met any others like him, other than Sylar, but Sylar didn’t have Peter’s ability he had something else called Intuitive Aptitude which made him hunger for power. It was the same but in a different way. Matt then went on to say that there were a few of them out there and they were being watched and her uncle was probably being watched too. She knew some of the Evolved Humans out there were dangerous but she didn’t like to think they would class Peter as dangerous. Peter would never hurt a fly, well unless his friends or family were threatened, that was different then. Claire glanced to Matt briefly, “Why would they be watching Peter? All he has ever cared about is saving the world. He would never do anything destructive, not on purpose anyway.” She shuddered at the memory of when Peter had gone nuclear and Nathan, who she didn’t class as her father back then flew him up into orbit to save New York. That had been the first act of kindness and bravery which put Claire in the right direction for getting to know her father better. Claire might not have a fighting ability, but she knew in her heart if anything happened to Peter, she would do what she could to bring down whoever done it to him.
After Claire had joked about it being a good idea for him to kick everyone out the shop for her, she had said he might make a good friend. When Matt replied saying it was good to know he would have a friend in high places Claire smiled brightly at him. “Well, that’s settled then, friends it is.” She held her hand out to shake on the deal. Matt then added that she might enjoy his company then. She nodded her head, “Of course, that is without a doubt, since I am already enjoying your company.” She gave him a true genuine warm smile after saying those words. It actually felt good to have someone watching out for her who was actually a friend, and not just ‘one of the agents’ sent to protect her. As Claire had begun to look around to get this jacket she wanted she saw lots of people staring at her and it was really making her nervous. She didn’t usually bother about it, but ever since she got the status of being the First Daughter whenever she was out without Wade it made her feel this way. She had soon turned to Matt saying she didn’t think it was a good idea.
Matt then smiled at her telling her he would handle it. “Alright, if you’re sure?” She said wondering what Matt was going to do, although she figured it wouldn’t be anything too horrific. Soon enough everyone seemed to stop looking at her and went about doing what they were doing before she had walked in. He must have used telepathy on them. Claire couldn’t help but let out a slight sigh of relief and smiled at Matt as she bit down on her bottom lip slightly. Matt then spoke saying they had temporarily forgotten who she was and she was to return to what she was doing. She grinned at him, “Thanks Matt, and yes you will indeed make a very good friend.” She placed her hand on his arm and gave it a gentle squeeze before heading further into the store and finding the right jacket almost immediately. It was white, nice colour for winter and Christmas, with a fake fur lined hood, it felt cosy and yet it was also waterproof; it was perfect. She soon paid for it, and then headed back toward Matt again.
There were a few more things on her agenda, she wanted to get some more underwear, namely to impress Wade, as well as a couple of new dresses for parties and functions she knew would be coming up over the next few months. Coming into the clothes store to get her jacket was no big deal, and probably the other shop where she would get the dresses, but she figured he wouldn’t be so keen on her next choice of shop, which was more or less next door to the one she had just been in. The store in question was Agent Provocateur, “You might want to stand outside for this one, unless you have a special lady in your life you might want to treat?” She winked at him and then giggled slightly, although no doubt she would have the same deal in this store the minute she stepped in as she did in the previous one.

Matt just smiled weakly as Claire asked why the government felt the need to watch Peter. It wasn't a topic he liked talking about. Especially since he was being watched in a way as well. But she was the President's daughter, for god's sake. She probably knew things Matt wouldn't ever gain access to. "Well... The government isn't keen on people like me and your uncle. People who can take on other powers. We're believed to be 'dangerous' and we're monitored constantly. Any mistakes, and we get locked in a cell that blocks our powers. And you're stuck there for life." He said, lowering his head a little. Shamefully, he had to arrest a couple of rogue mimickers, which had made him question the worth of his own ability.
He brightened up however when Claire said that they pair were officially friends. He just smiled as he shook her hand. Friends. That was something he needed more of. Especially ones like Claire and Emilie. People who understood him. Where he came from. He just smiled a truly happy smile for the first time in a while, when she said she was already enjoying his company. "Well, it's my pleasure to have been a good service to you, Ms. Petrelli." He said in a formal tone, bowing to her slightly and chuckled afterwards. He hadn't opened up like this in a long time.
After Matt had made the patrons ignore Claire, Matt just nodded as Claire gently squeezed his arm, thanking him for what he had done. "As you were, Ms. Petrelli." He said in a formal tone, but added a friendly smile afterwards as she went back to her shopping. After she had done what she needed to do, Matt escorted her to a lingerie store, Matt just letting out a little hint of a smirk as Claire asked if he wanted to stay outside. "Ms. Petrelli, I've already performed the same telepathic move as before, you're good to go in." He said with a smile as he stood outside the store, waiting for the young woman to finish her shopping. Matt sure as hell wasn't going to follow her in there. That was a bit too personal for him. And mental images he would like to do without.

After Claire had asked Matt why the government might be watching over Peter she couldn’t believe what she was hearing. Well, maybe she could, after all you had people like Sylar who had multiple abilities and he was dangerous. But not everybody who could gain multiple powers is dangerous least of all Peter. “But that’s crazy, Peter isn’t dangerous. Honestly, they get one person who acts dangerous with their powers and suddenly everybody is dangerous.” It made Claire’s blood boil and in a way she was part of the government to a degree because she was the President’s daughter and that made Claire the First Daughter of America. It made her wonder just for a second if her father had anything to do with it, but why would he? He had revealed himself to the public. It was confusing her a little.
Claire had then told Matt he would be a good friend and she was already enjoying his company, she had to shake her head and laugh a little at his response. “You have definitely been of good service to me, but seriously do you have to do the whole bowing thing, I’m not a Queen or Princess.” She then playfully slapped his arm, but she heard him chuckling and couldn’t help but join in and laugh some more.
When Claire had moved onto a lingerie store she had asked Matt if he wanted to stay outside unless he had a special woman he wanted to treat, she saw that smirk on his face, and she couldn’t help but give him a teasing smile. Then he said he had already performed the same telepathic trick as before and she was good to go in. She grinned brightly at him, “You are definitely good. I’m sorry but you do know that you now going to have to come with me on every shopping trip?” She smirked at him wrinkling her nose slightly as she turned around and made her way into the store. Ten minutes later she was out having bought three lingerie sets.
There was just one more thing Claire wanted to get and she was done with her clothes shopping and that was to get a couple of new dresses, there were some events coming up and she always liked to try and wear something different to each one. She turned to Matt, “I just have this one other store to go but I’m wondering instead of going there first, would you maybe want to go for a coffee somewhere or something?” She wouldn’t normally ask the ‘baby sitter’ to go for a coffee, but none of them had been like Matt. He seemed to be really nice underneath the whole formality of his job and it would be nice to have a friend who was near to her own age group.

Matt just nodded his head in agreement to Claire's comment about how when one person with powers did wrong, they were all to blame. It wasn't fair for any of them. "Well I get sent on missions that involve helping people in some way... I track down the bad guys and bring them in. But even I get watched... Wouldn't be surprised if any UC's are around right now..." He said with a bored tone, expecting that it wouldn't be above D'Costa to put UC's on watch, when Matt was guarding the First Daughter.
When Claire commented on the bowing, Matt just smiled. "Hey, you're the closest thing this country has to royalty. Besides, no one else would dare have fun around you, since you're the 'First Daughter' and have to be respected and all..." He said, adding a mock tone when saying 'First Daughter'. Her playful punch led to Matt making a mock pain face, chuckling afterward and having Claire chuckle along with him. He was liking this one. She seemed to understand him.
Matt just smiled at Claire when she said he'd have to come along with her all the time when she went shopping. He was that good, that she'd hire him everytime? D'Costa would have a field day with that. "Thank you Ms. Petrelli." He said with a smile as she went inside, doing her shopping and coming out 10 minutes later with bags in tow. She smiled at Matt and asked if he wanted to grab a coffee before heading to the final store. Matt just smiled back at Claire, nodding his head in approval.
"I suppose that would be acceptable." He said with a smile before gestured her to lead. "After you, m'lady." He said with a mock formal tone.

{ooc - sorry it took me a week, but with this infection playing up on and off - I'm losing my concentration from time to time}
Claire nodded her head as Matt spoke about being sent on missions to help people in a way by tracking down the bad guys and bringing them in but even he gets watched. It all seemed so pointless to Claire. She was getting quite annoyed with it now. “I can understand their problem with some of us, but they shouldn’t just look at all of us the same. I swear they should spend more time trying to get people like Sylar and leave people like you and I who are harmless alone.” Alright, so Claire didn’t really know Matt all that well, he could be anything but harmless, but she was usually a fairly good judge of character and wouldn’t think Matt would do anything out of turn unless it was for the greater good. She sighed deeply, “I wish they would just leave us alone.”
When Matt said she was the closest thing to royalty the country had she had to laugh a little, however he was right in what he said when you think about it. She decided to play along with it, as Matt himself said, nobody else would dare have fun with her, and so she might as well have fun back. “Well in that case Sir, I ask you to bow to me every time I step out of a store, and you can put your jacket down over that puddle there for me to walk on.” She then began to laugh loudly, the first time she had actually laughed like that other than when she was either in her father Nathan’s company or Wade’s. It would seem that Matt was having a good affect on her, and she would definitely be looking at him as a friend from now on.
Matt had then pulled a face pretending to be in pain when she had playfully hit his arm which made Claire shake her head at him and laugh some more. “That was hardly anything, I can hit hard you know, so don’t push me.” She then poked her tongue out at him and laughed some more. She loved the friendship which seemed to be forming between them. Then she had a funny thought, it seemed that all her friends these days were guys. What was it with her and guys? She just seemed to naturally get on better with guys than girls.
Claire had then mentioned she would have to ask for Matt to accompany all the time when she went out. He thanked her calling her Ms. Petrelli, she knew it was his position which was making him so formal but she hated it, especially when she saw Matt as a friend. “You know, you can just call me Claire, especially when none of the others around, even when they’re around, all this formality gets on my nerves sometimes.” She grinned at him, she knew it was because he was doing his job at that point, but really when it was just the two of them and it was her wish for him to call her Claire, did it matter if he was formal or not?
After Claire had come out of the second store she had asked Matt if wanted to go for a coffee somewhere before she went to the final store. She wasn’t sure if he would have agreed, but he did, and she smiled at him. “Good, because I’m really thirsty.” He then gestured with his hand for her to lead the way. She shook her head again slightly as he had called her m’lady. She then made her way to the one coffee shop she always went to when she was out shopping. Nothing could beat Costa Coffee. Five minutes later Claire was about to haul the door open and then she turned to him, not even saying anything, just giving him those eyes asking if he would do what he had done before in the clothes stores.
Once Matt had used his telepathic powers on the unsuspecting customers in the coffee shop she then hauled the door open and went inside. “What can I get you to drink?” She asked Matt not thinking for one second that it was strange for her to ask him what he wanted to drink, well it was the least she could do for all his help so far and maybe it could be called a celebration for the start of what would hopefully be a wonderful new friendship.

Matt nodded as Claire began to speak her mind about how people like them being watched was wasted, when resources could be used against someone like Sylar. Sylar... That wasn't a name Matt would be forgetting anytime soon. "Yeah... I'd know how dangerous he can be..." Matt simply said, not really wanting to discuss things with Claire. He was unaware that she too had a run in with him as well, her power now his as well. It was sickening that the man took what was special from others. Not like Matt, or Peter... But kills them.
However things lightened up as the day progressed, Claire making a reply to a comment Matt had said to her about being the closest thing to royalty in the country. She joked about Matt bowing to her and putting his jacket over puddles. He simply bowed again, smiling at her. Her playful punch and Matt's mock hurt face made Claire comment on how she was a hard hitter. Matt just smiled. "I'm sure you can but hey, I'm the bodyguard, so I think I'll be doing the hitting." Matt said with a wink and a smile.
Claire was growing on Matt. More so than other people he knew. She seemed kind, loving and caring for people. So why the act before in the White House and the car. Matt wasn't one to judge however. He knew that being someone like her couldn't be easy. Especially when your dad is the President. So when Claire said that Matt could call her Claire, he just smiled softly and nodded at her. "OK Claire." Matt simply replied.
After the second store, Claire had asked if the pair could get a coffee. Matt agreed and Claire led the way. They walked towards Costa Coffee, the name of it making Matt snicker under his breath a little. It was funny, because Matt's boss' last name was D'Costa, and the store's was Costa Coffee. Matt wondered for a moment if the two were related in some way. As they reached the door, Claire looked at Matt with the same eyes as the stores before. He nodded and tapped his head, indicating that he had already taken care of it.
That's when the entered and Claire asked what Matt was drinking. Matt looked at her with a raised brow and a cheeky smile. "I thought the guy paid on the first date?" He said with a chuckle, before shaking his head slightly. "Just messing, I'll have a hot chocolate please." He asked her with a smile. After she had made her orders, Matt escorted her to a spot right by the window of the store, the best view in the coffee shop. He sat down after Claire had, smiling at her as they waited for their drinks.
"So Claire, how's Wade?" He asked, hoping it wouldn't be too awkward that he knew about her boyfriend.
