When Matt said he knew how dangerous Sylar could be she nodded her head, “You aren’t alone there. Save the cheerleader, save the world? That was me. Thanks to Peter he didn’t get anywhere near me, although he caught up with me eventually. He told me I was special.” Claire’s voice went dark momentarily when she said the word special, “I had no idea what he meant until I was lying there on the sofa with my skull opened, my power gone, but still alive, turns out with this magical ability of self healing he was able to take my power without me losing mine or dying. The wound simply healed over in seconds.” Claire sighed as she thought about that day, yeah she might have survived the attack, but from that moment on for months she never felt anything and she hated that all the more than the ability itself. The one thing she could count on which made her feel normal was being able to feel the pain of anything, but she lost that as well. It took the death of her son to make Claire feel pain again.
Things took a lighter approach when Claire and Matt started joking around with each other, something she rarely done unless she was in the company of Wade or Nathan and Peter on the rare occasions they got to spend time together. Claire could feel a little bond forming with Matt and for a few seconds she was worried about it, because Wade was supposed to be the guy in her life, but she soon realised what she was feeling was purely platonic, possibly that of a brother. In fact maybe it was helping to fill the void left by the death of Lyle. Claire had then joked some more about being a hard hitter she had to laugh at Matt’s response. Claire put her hand to her head to give Matt a salute. “Yes Sir. You are my bodyguard and you shall always be my bodyguard and I shall call you Squishy.” Claire said with a laugh, as she reverted to the child within her quoting a line from the movie ‘Finding Nemo’ and making it her own.
As they approached Costa Coffee Claire had looked at Matt, giving the eyes asking him to use his telepathic powers so she wouldn’t get ambushed and she had to grin when he tapped his head indicating that he had already taken care of it. “Thanks Matt.” Soon enough they were inside and Claire asked Matt what she could get him to drink. She saw that raised brow and cheeky smile from him before he spoke talking about guys paying on the first date. She knew he was teasing her and she played along by shaking her head and rolling her eyes slightly before giggling softly. Of course Matt then said he was just messing and asked for a hot chocolate. “I knew you were messing.” She said as she playfully nudged his arm, “And alright.” Claire then turned to the assistant, “May I have a hot chocolate and a latte please, thanks.” The assistant nodded their head and followed Matt to a table by the window.
Claire sat down and watched as Matt followed, and soon he was asking her question about Wade. It was no surprise to Claire that Matt knew about Wade; after all they had been in the newspaper at least once after attending that party. The same party when she and Wade had confessed their true feelings for each other. “He’s fine thanks for asking.” She then leaned in closer knowing Matt might understand this, “He found the whole not being able to age thing a bit hard though, for a moment I thought we might have split up over it. I wanted to have a normal boyfriend because it was my connection to a normal life, but for a brief second, I wished my boyfriend had the same ability as me. Can you imagine what it’s going to be like if we remain together, and I stay like this while he gets old?” Claire’s voice was a whisper. It was true that she and Wade had worked it out, and she had said she would never stop loving him, but the truth was, how would she really feel when he was beginning to look like a sixty year old man and she was still looking nineteen? A single tear escaped her eye then, her emotions getting the better of her.
{ooc - a bit of Claire muse there. lol}
