Friday 9th April, 2010 It had been almost nine months since Heather had passed away leaving Mitchell to raise their baby daughter alone. He hadn’t coped too well when Erin had reached around three months when he had a book due at the publishers and his parents couldn’t come over and help because of his father’s medical condition. He had to rely on the doctor who had helped his wife through her pregnancy and now family friend Ashton Summit to help him through the rough spots that he had often found himself in. Over the past six months it was clear to see that a strong friendship continued to grow between Mitch and Ashton especially since Ashton had agreed to move in with him as a friend to help him. He had to admit that she had been a godsend to him; he had definitely got through it all a lot easier with Ashton around. Mitch was probably doing a lot better now and as much as he used to scoff at his mother telling him that time was a great healer he had to admit that she had been right. He was grateful for the job that he had though because it meant that he could be there for his daughter unlike any other father who had a normal nine to five job who would have had to get babysitters in to care for their child. He felt he was really lucky that he could do what he could to raise his daughter with Ashton’s help when he needed it and still be able to continue to do his job when Erin was asleep. He was currently working on his new book but with Erin more settled now than she had been when he was trying to finish his previous book he was finding it a lot easier to get this one written and knew that he would have no problems getting it finished in time for publishing. He had just finished a chapter when he heard Erin cry through the baby monitor and unlike the last time he gently got up from his desk and made his way into the nursery and bent over the cot leaning his arms on it and looking down at his cute little girl who was continuing to look like her mother Heather with every new day. Looking down at her he felt as if he still had Heather in his life simply because their daughter looked so much like her. “So, my bonnie wee lass is awake is she, you coming to your daddy then?” He asked and watched as his gorgeous nine month old girl smiled a big smile and put her hands out to him. He stood up then and put his arms out and scooped Erin out of the cot and made his way into the lounge room and sat down with Erin sitting on his knees facing him and then started to playfully lift her toward him and lean forward and cover her face in kisses and laugh along as Erin giggled her baby giggle as he did this. He looked at the time and knew that Erin was due to have a feed; it was more or less lunch time, “Would Erin like some chicken and rice dinner?” He asked and saw her smiling at him and he stood up with her and made his way into the kitchen and placed Erin into her highchair and began to prepare the baby food for her. She was at the age now that she could have a combination of baby milk and baby food. He then went into the lounge quickly and took a clean bib out of the baby box and went back into the kitchen and put it on Erin and tied it at the back gently and began to play with her nose with his fingertip until the baby food was ready.

Ashton sat at her desk at work, flicking through the newest edition of the medical journa that she received at work every three months. Her mind wasn't really taking in anything that she was trying to read. Ashton's mind kept going back to Mitchell and little Erin. Just thinking about Erin made her smile. In almost nine months she had definately grown to be a gorgeous little girl. She knew that her mother Heather, who had died during child birth, would be so proud of her little girl. Ashton knew that Mitchell was.
But she did recall the first three months of having to take care of his daughter, and how hard it had been for him. Though Ashton had stepped in and helped her friend during the difficult time, and was happy to help. She had worked with only a small amount of single parents while they raised their child or children, when being their child's pediatrician. But Mitchell's case, she felt, was a special one. Normally it was single mothers she dealt with, but Mitchell was a single father, and one who had a very demanding job. She wasn't saying she didn't, she did, what with being a doctor, but she just had this yearning to help Mitchell anyway she could. That was why she had moved in two weeks after that afternoon. Ashton had sold up her house, fixed up her lose ends, and then moved in with Mitchell as a friend.
Ashton's stomach started to grumble, which made her look at the clock on the wall. "Wow. Where did the time go?" She shook her head a little, feeling silly for talking to herself. The morning had been busy, but late morning no so much. It was friday after all, and most of her appointments were in the morning. She guessed that some people wanted to get away for the weekend, if possible. Ashton couldn't remember the last time she had gone away, her job was far too demanding to do much else. Ashton closed the journal, and then looked at her appointment book. She was surprised that she had one appointment in the book, but then reading it remembered that it had been cancelled till next week. So picking up her pen, crossed it out, sighing to herself. Ashton remembered then also that she had one patient who was ready to give birth any time from today, but there was no word on her arriving at the hospital, so she knew that she would be okay to head off for a couple of hours at least, and she had her pager with her, so she was still in contact.
So Ashton grabbed her things, and then made her way to her car, where she set off for Mitchell's house. Soon enough she was at the house, and made her wait to the front door. She retrieved her keys from her bag, and unlocked the door. Ashton made sure she didn't make too much of a sound, just in case Erin was sleeping or Mitchell was writing. She closed the door quietly behind her, and placed her bag near the door to the side. Ashton took off her shoes, kind of relieved with that, as her new shoes were killing her feet.
Ashton was then hit with the sound of noices in the kitchen. As she got closer into the lounge room, she was met with Mitchell entering. "Hey Mitch." She gave him a big smile, and watched him pick up a bib from the box. Ash followed him into the kitchen, where she saw Erin in the high chair ready for lunch. "Hey beautiful girl." She stook back as Mitchell put the bib on Erin, and folded her arms, watching the scene before her. Mitch was definately a different man, since she came in to help with Erin. He had been truly stressed out that day six month ago, but looking at him, you would have never guessed. He just seemed so much more happier, and Erin as well.
"So, what is on the menu for lunch? Smells wonderful." Ashton laughed a little, knowing full well that what was being prepared was for Erin. "Do you need some help?" Ashton said this as she made her way closer to the two of them, and rested a hand on Mitch's shoulder, giving him, then Erin, a warm smile.

When Mitch had gone into the living room to get a clean bib from the baby box he hardly noticed that Ashton was in the living room until she spoke. He quickly turned and gave her a bright smile, “Oh hey lass, I never heard you come in. How’s your day been so far?” He asked as he made his way back into the kitchen so he wasn’t leaving Erin alone for too long. When Ashton greeted Erin calling her beautiful girl Mitch smiled brightly and then watched as his gorgeous little girl smiled at Ashton. Mitch had then tied the bib around Erin’s neck gently and began to play with her nose. As he did this Erin began to bang her hands on the highchair table. She had begun to do this recently when she was due food, it was almost as if she was telling Mitch to hurry and get it to her. He began to laugh a little. “I think she’s trying to tell me something Ashton lass.” He said and laughed again a little as he turned to check on the food.
Ashton then asked what was on the menu for lunch as it smelled wonderful. Mitch laughed along with Ashton, “Lovely mashed up chicken and rice, care for some?” Mitch asked in a teasing voice and began to laugh again. What might taste very nice to his daughter wasn’t so nice to Mitch, although he did have a thing for her Farley’s Rusk’s. He couldn’t resist taking a biscuit from the pack and munching on one as he spoon fed a crushed up one in warm milk for Erin. It was about the only baby food that Mitch could actually admit was nice and could understand Erin always being happy about having a Rusk, whether it was in a bowl with warm milk or to munch on as a biscuit. Ashton then asked if he needed any help and soon felt a hand on his shoulder. Normally that wouldn’t have had any sort of effect on him, Ash had touched him like that a few times, but for some reason he got a slight shiver that time but mentally shook it from his head and put it down to him over thinking things.
“No, you’re okay Ashton lass, I got it covered.” He replied as he began to pour the chicken and rice dinner into one of Erin’s little bowls and grabbed the spoon and turned back around and sat down in the chair next to Erin’s highchair to start feeding her but then looked up at Ashton with a bright smile. “However, if you’re not in any hurry to get back I was thinking we could maybe take Erin to the park since it’s a nice Spring day and have a picnic by the lake, what do you think?” He asked her as he put the first spoonful into Erin’s mouth. Erin swallowed and then put her hand onto Mitch’s and tried to push it back into the bowl. Mitch began to laugh, “It would seem that she really loves this food.” He put the spoon in to take more and before he got a chance to put it into her mouth Erin looked right at Ashton and giggled a little and then said quite clearly, “Mama!”
Mitch wasn’t sure where to look for a second because obviously Ashton wasn’t Erin’s mother but she was the only mother that his daughter had ever known so maybe it wasn’t that much of a surprise apart from the fact that he hadn’t referred to Ashton as Erin’s mummy and was quite sure that Ashton hadn’t either. Although he would often sit and look at a photo of Heather on the mantelpiece and then say to Erin he wished her mama was there to see how she had grown. “She probably just assumes that you’re her mama. I sometimes speak to her when we’re alone and say I wish her mama could see how gorgeous she is, maybe she’s picked it up from that, she won’t know any better, since you’re a female influence in her life.”
Mitch honestly wouldn’t care if Erin grew up to call Ashton her mum because other than her birth mum who was dead, Erin couldn’t ask for a better mum in his opinion. “I honestly don’t mind lass if she calls you that, so long as you’re comfortable with it yourself?” Mitch asked and then felt his hand being tugged at knowing that Erin was after even more food and gladly obliged his daughter by putting another spoonful into her mouth.

Ashton saw that smile of Mitch's brightening her day even more. She heard what he asked her, and followed him into the kitchen. "Busy this morning, but not so much this afternoon. Decided to have lunch here today." When Ash had spoke to Erin, she watched the baby smile back at her. Without hesitating, she kissed Erin on the forehead, and took in her smell. Babies always smelt good thought Ashton to herself. Soon enough the bib was on Erin, and watched as she began to bang her hands on the highchair. Ashton had noticed this once or twice, when she was home, and putting her hands up to her mouth a little, she giggled at the sight. Hearing what Mitche said made Ashton nod in agreement. "Hopefully she doesn't become demanding when she gets older."
Hearing what was for lunch for Erin, Ashton smiled, "Well it does smell nice, but no thanks. I will just stick to whatever is in the fridge." She had then asked if he needed any help, and had placed a hand on his shoulder. Ashton frowned a little, wondering if she had done something wrong, when she saw Mitch shake his head, but she then forgot the thought, when no comment was made. He then said that he basically didn't need any help, "Okay. I will just see what is in the fridge for lunch while you feed Erin." As Ash opened the fridge to look in to see what she could have, Mitch spoke to her head again, which made her look up from the fridge. Ashton smiled at him, loving the idea. "That's sounds like a great idea Mitch. I will just grab a snack for now, then see what I can get packed then." Ashton was kind of looking forward to the afternoon now. She just hoped that she wouldn't be called in to work.
Ashton soon grabbed out a small container of leftovers from the night before, and closed the door to the fridge. Hearing what he said next made her laugh a little, "Well at least you know she won't starve." Aston went to get a fork to eat the leftovers when she heard Erin giggled. As she looked at the baby, the word was said by her, and without thinking Ashton dropped the container on the floor. Luckily the lid stayed on or the meat would have gone everywhere. The shock of what Erin said soon left Ashton, and she quickly picked up the container, and set it on the bench.
Her eyes slowly diverted to Mitch wondering what she should say to what Erin just said. Mitch soon spoke, and Ashton nodded slowly at what he said about what happened. She finally found her words to reply, though really not sure how to handle the situation, "Yeah, that could be it. And I am happy to be in her life." It was true, as Ashton loved Erin probably just as much as Mitch did. Ashton took the lid off the container, and got a fork to eat with. She walked over to where the highchair was, and sat on a nearby chair.
Mitch then commented more on it, and Ashton listened to what he said. Her eyes diverted to what Erin was doing, and watched Mitch feed her again. Ashton didn't reply straight away, as she knew that it would be okay for Erin to say it she guessed at the house. But what would people say when Erin called Ashton mum out in public. Was it Ashton's right to say what the situation was? What was the situation with her and Mitchell? Sure they were friends and all, but what were others thinking about it if they didn't know the whole story?
She soon realised that she hadn't answered Mitch's question, and she placed the half empty container on the table. "Sorry, just thinking about what you said. I don't mind, but was thinking about what questions might come up if people didn't know the current situation, or your situation I guess. I am in no way embarrassed by you or Erin, just I guess thinking of you." Ashton picked up the container, and got up heading towards the kitchen, wanting to change the subject, "So what do you want packed for the picnic?"

Mitch hadn’t heard Ashton come in but soon greeted her asking how her day had been so far. She told him that she had a busy morning but the afternoon had been quieter and had decided to have lunch at home. “Ah, well I’m sure your day has been pretty good so far and glad the afternoon has been quieter it’s good to have you home lass.” Mitch replied and gave her another one of his winning smiles. It was true, he had gotten so used to having Ashton around now, and she really was a very good friend. He had been pretty dependent on her from the moment she had moved in but Mitch was doing a lot better now and coping better with his situation. Mitch then heard Ashton speak to Erin and he had to smile as she kissed Erin on the forehead which made Erin smile all the more at her. Seeing Erin bang her little hands on the highchair table was quite comical and when he had commented about it to Ashton she replied saying that hopefully she wouldn’t become demanding as she got older. Mitch just laughed a little, “Nah lass, I am pretty sure I will get her to understand that being demanding is not good. But right now at her age it is kind of funny.” He said as he chuckled a little.
When Ashton had asked jokingly what was for lunch after smelling Erin’s baby food, Mitch had played along with it telling Ashton what it was and did she care for some. He had to laugh out loud as Ashton said that it did smell nice but no thanks and added that she would see what was in the fridge. “Very well lass, I didn’t think you would want some, besides think Erin might have had something to say about that.” He chuckled a little, knowing that if she was going to get funny about sharing, that he would have to make sure he taught her that sharing was a nice thing to do and not to be greedy. Especially when it came time for her to go to nursery and it was about sharing the toys with the other children. After he replied to Ashton’s comment about helping him she said she would see what was in the fridge while he fed Erin. He gave her a smile in acknowledgement and then began to wonder what that shiver meant when Ashton had touched him before.
As Ashton was rummaging in the fridge Mitch has asked about going for a picnic since the weather was getting nice and warm again for this time of year and he noticed her look back at him and smiled and said that it sounded like a great idea adding that she would just have a snack for now and then see what she could get packed. “Thanks Ashton lass that would be great.” Although he had suggested the idea he would have been quite happy to prepare the picnic basket himself, but he would have to get Erin ready in her outdoor clothes and also change her nappy and then make sure he had everything he needed for Erin for while they were out. He hoped that Ashton wouldn’t get called back into work now that they had an afternoon planned but he just spontaneously thought of it after hearing Ashton say that her afternoon had been quiet so far.
Just as Ashton was eating what she wanted as a snack Erin had called her mama not that it had annoyed Mitch at all but he noticed that Ashton dropped the container she had been eating from so it had obviously shocked her. Mitch soon explained what he thought the reason could be for Erin coming away with the word mama and Ashton said that could be it and that she was happy to be in her life. “Well I’m happy that you are in her life Ashton, I’m happy that you’re in my life, still wonder what might have become of me and the little one if it hadn’t been for you, I’ll always be eternally grateful you know lass.” Mitch said giving her a warm smile but wondering how Ashton was really feeling about the prospect of his daughter calling her mama.
Mitch had then said that he honestly didn’t mind if Erin called her mama as long as she didn’t mind herself. There seemed to be a silence and Mitch figured that Ashton was thinking about what to say to it, not that he blamed her at all. She soon spoke starting with an apology but Mitch shook his head with a warm smile, “No need for apologies lass.” He said and then listened to what else she had to say on the matter. He guessed that Ashton did have a point with what she was saying, “Well most people know that we’re good friends and you moved in to help me with Erin, to be honest I think that what goes on between us, is nobody’s business but our own, but I am sure that most people will see it how I am, that with you being the only female in her life that it’s an automatic given that Erin will think you’re her mama. But I do love you for thinking of me.” Mitch said not even aware of the fact that he had just said he loved Ashton, but then it wasn’t in the ‘I love you’ context, it was more in the way of saying you loved a certain television show. At least that’s what Mitch was thinking in his head but it was possible that he was thinking something different in his heart but just wasn’t aware of it yet.
Ashton then asked him what he wanted packed for the picnic, but he hadn’t really given that much thought what with the idea being so spontaneous. “Not sure Ashton lass, never really thought about it, that’s typical of me and spontaneous decisions. General picnic food I guess, some sandwiches, whatever you want to put on them, I think there might still be some cocktail sausage rolls that could get cooked up and packed, they’re always great for a picnic, maybe some crisps and peanuts and maybe some biscuits. What would you prefer for a drink? There’s fizzy pop in the fridge that we can take, or if you would prefer a hot drink we could take a flask of hot water and pack some coffee, tea, sugar and milk too, what do you think? I can get Erin ready while you’re doing that.” Mitch suggested, knowing that he would have to wash Erin down now what with some of her baby food getting on her face and even in her hair from every time she made a grab for the spoon as he fed her.

Ashton had to laugh a little at what Mitch said about what she said in regards to hoping that Erin wouldn't get demanding when she got older. "May as well start now, or she will think she will be able to get whatever she wants." Ashton laughed again, knowing what he meant though, "It can be cute though." She didn't want to be a party pooper about it.
"I am sure she would have," which made Ashton giggle a little. Erin loved her food, which was a good thing, so she knew that she might not want to share with her. "We might have to teach her about sharing, as well as not getting what she wants." Saying 'we' didn't seem to faze Ashton in the slightest. She had just been so used to doing things with Mitch and Erin, it just came naturally to her now.
After the shock of Erin calling her mama was over, they began to discuss the reasons behind her saying that. Hearing Mitch say that he was happy that Ash was in Erin's life, and in his life, it made her smile. Then he continued to talk, wondering what might have become of him and Erin if it hadn't of been for Ashton. "Well you are welcome. But I guess don't think of the past, but look to the future with your beautiful daughter." Ashton gave him a warm smile back, forgetting about the fact that Erin had called her mama, just loving the fact that she was with two special people right now.
The subject then came up again, and Ash spoke of it, and also just the overal situation they were in. Mitch soon commented, talking about the fact that most people knew that they were good friends, and that she moved in to help. She had to snicker a little at the next thing he said. "I guess you are right, despite nothing going on really." Ash then gave him a smile, thinking about what he had said at the end. "Well I guess I think about both of you a lot, since I care about you both." Ash did think about what he said, the whole I love you thing, she wondered about it for a second, but then decided not to think about it too much, as she just put it down to a passing comment.
Ash nodded to what Mitch said about the food to pack, and she quickly brought out bread, butter, and some things to cut up for the sandwiches. "As much as the sausage rolls are a great idea, might forget about them, as it will take time, or we could just buy something hot from the bakery on the way to the park." Once Ashton made up a small assortment of sandwiches, she got the chips and some biscuits. To finish off she packed a few plates, cups and one of Erin's sipper cups to have a drink out of for her. Remembering that Mitch mentioned hot water, Ashton made that up, and then packed what they needed for hot drinks. She figured she had enough packed, so closed the basket, and moved it to the lounge room, where her bag was. She looked at her phone, no messages. Ash smiled then, knowing full well that she would be uninterrupted this afternoon. She had a feeling.
"I'm all set whenever you are Mitch." Ashton sat on the lounge, waiting for him to finish with Erin. But then she called out again, "Do yo need a hand with Erin?"

When Ashton said that he should start now or she will think she can get whatever she wants Mitch knew that she was right but he just couldn’t help but to think it was cute right now but he did also know that it was always better to get these sorts of habits knocked on the head when they were younger rather than when they were older. Ashton laughed and then added that it could be cute though. “Aye, you’re right Ashton lass she does need telling and I guess now is as good a time as any. If she gets demanding at next meal then we can start to tell her.” After all, it wasn’t as if she was just a young baby now, she was nine months old, in another three Erin would be a year and it was amazing to believe that.
When Mitch had said that Erin might have something to day about sharing her food with Ashton he heard her say she was sure she would have and then giggled a little. Then Ashton said that they might have to teach her about sharing as well as not getting what she wants all the time. Mitch knew that to be true as well, but somehow a part of him wanted for Erin to keep her innocence and to stay a baby but he knew that wouldn’t happen. He wasn’t sure how he would cope when Erin became a teenager and started bringing boys home. “Aye we might, I’d hate for people to think our daughter was a greedy spoiled bitch.” He replied and laughed a little not even thinking that he had just referred to Erin as ‘their’ daughter.
When Mitch had said he didn’t know where he would be if it hadn’t been for Ashton moving in to help he had to smile brightly when she said that he was welcome and then she added that he should look to the future with his beautiful daughter than think about the past. He knew that once again Ashton was right but inside to himself he was thinking that there was someone else he wouldn’t mind looking to the future with, Ashton. Then he realised what he just thought and it was becoming more and more apparent to him that maybe he had hidden feelings for Ashton but they were feelings he wasn’t sure he should act on or even how to and if he did, how would Ashton react to it? She’s already been shocked enough at Erin calling her mama. “Aye you’re right lass, although...” But he trailed off, he really couldn’t say it, at least not just now.
When the conversation had diverted back to Erin calling Ashton mama she had wondered what others may think and Mitch soon said his piece about that. He had to chuckle when he heard Ashton laugh a little at what he had said about it not really being anybody’s business but their own. Ashton soon replied saying she guessed he was right despite nothing going on. He gave her a bright smile, “That’s exactly the point.” He replied and then to himself he couldn’t help but think although would it be so bad if there was? She was gorgeous, she had done a lot to help him, what wasn’t there about her to love other than the fact she wasn’t Heather and he had to move on at some point. Ashton seemed like a good woman to move on with and they do say that the best relationships are usually forged from friendships first and you couldn’t deny that Mitch and Ashton had a good friendship first.
When Ashton said that she thinks about the both of them a lot because she cares about them this made Mitch smile at her warmly. “And we care about you too Ashton lass, especially me.” Then to himself he added, I care more than you probably know and more than I probably should. A part of him was beginning to worry what would happen if he acted on these underlying feelings he seemed to hold for Ashton. Would she walk out and leave? He didn’t think it would be that easy for her to do that after all she had sold up and moved to be with him, maybe he shouldn’t act on them, Ashton had too much to lose if it wasn’t what she would want. Mitch was one very mixed up guy right now not sure what his feelings were because it would seem his heart was saying one thing while his head was most definitely saying something else.
Mitch had then given some ideas about what to have for the picnic he suggested they go on he hadn’t really thought about the length of time the sausage rolls would take to cook he had just basically listed off a few things he could think of that always worked for a picnic. He had to chuckle a little at Ashton’s response to the sausage rolls. “Aye Ashton never really thought about the time it would take, stopping off at the bakery sounds good to me.” He replied and then took Erin out of her highchair to get her washed down and dressed since she had finished her lunch a couple of moments ago. He then put her bowl and spoon into the dishwasher as he passed and then made his way to the bathroom.
Sitting with Erin on his lap with her hood towel at the ready he filled up the sink and tested the water to make sure that it wasn’t too hot and feeling that the temperature was right got her baby sponge and put some baby shower gel onto it and began to clean down her face and then her hands and arms as the food really had gone everywhere. He then emptied the water and refilled the sink and dipped his hand in and wet Erin’s hair and lathered up a small amount of her baby shampoo into her hair and then used a cup to pour some of the clean water over her head taking care not to let it go into her eyes. Soon enough he had her wrapped up in her towel and made his way into the bedroom.
Within five minutes he had her dried, a clean nappy on and a little ‘Daddy’s Girl’ top and skirt outfit and picked up a cardigan for her, really she shouldn’t need it in the current weather, but just in case. He was just getting ready to come down the stairs when he heard Ashton say she was all set whenever he was and then asked if he needed a hand with Erin. He walked into the living room, “Nope lass, got it covered as you can see. Thanks for sorting out the picnic basket though while I got Erin sorted.” He then placed Erin into her buggy and lifted up the picnic basket and put it onto the tray under the buggy so that Ashton didn’t have to carry it. “I thought we could walk there, taking a look out the window I can’t see the weather changing anytime soon.” He then made his way toward the door and waiting for Ashton to catch up, once they were both out he locked it and began to head in the general direction of the park remembering to go via the bakery.

(ooc - by my time two weeks since you posted with Mitch.... not good enough for me.) Ashton raised her eyebrows a little, when Mitch said that he would hate for people to think that their daughter was a greedy spoilt bitch. She was about tell him not to think like that, when he laughed a little. She gave a little laugh, but spoke to what he said. "I don't think they will think that. I just feel that she should just start to learn the basics. We don't have to start straight away, just so she gets the idea. Whatever you decide is best." She didn't want to tread on any toes, as Erin was his daughter. After Ashton had made the comment that she thought about them both a lot, Mitch replied. She smiled at what he said initially, then hearing him saying 'especially me', Ash looked away a little, feeling her face flush for some reason. She felt her heart flutter a little, and wondered what was going on. Normally they had words between each other, but now it felt like what he was saying to her was just like he was trying to tell her something. Ash slowly looks at Mitch, and gave him a bit of a smile. "That's great. Not sure if I would be here if I didn't care about you guys." It felt a little awkward for a second, but she knew she might have some thinking to do, then possibling a quiet chat after with Mitch about it. Once Ashton had the picnic basket all packed with everything they would need, she had sat in the lounge. But she had shouted out if he needed help with Erin. Within a few seconds of her asking that, Mitch appeared, and when he commented she nodded, giving a bright smile. "Well I can see that. And that is no problem. Happy to help." Ashton watched Mitch deal with Erin, and then placed the picnic basket underneath Erin in the buggy. Mitch then suggested that they could walk there. Ashton nodded, thinking it was a great idea. She glanced out the window, "No, not at all. I guess I should work on my tan since I don't really see a lot of sun in my job." Ashton laughed, then as they made their way out, she grabbed her handbag, placing it over her shoulder, and followed Mitch out the door. **** 20 mins later **** It had been a really nice walk to the park with Mitch and Erin. As they walked, Ashton had occassionally got lost in her own thoughts, especially over what was said previously. Was there something going on between Ashton and Mitch? Did she dare mention something about it now or later? If something was said, she guessed that it did all start with her moving in to help. Being with someone most of the time would definately get some friendly banter going. Sure she liked to think she knew Mitch pretty well now, what with being there under the same roof. But at the start it was just to help him out with Erin. Maybe now that he seemed to be okay, that she should see how he went without her being a distraction? Ashton had no idea, but still wondered if she should say something. They had stopped off at the bakery and Ashton insisted on paying for the sausage rolls. They didn't have small ones, so she bought three normal sized one, knowing that one could be cut up for Erin, if she wanted some. As they made their way into the park, Ashton saw a nice spot under some shady trees. "How about over there?" She pointed in the direction, and when Mitch saw where she was pointing, Ashton continued to walk beside him towards the trees. Aston's eyeline was drawn to a couple nearby, who seemed like they were in love. She smiled in that direction, and then soon realised that she was walking too far, and bumped into a tree. She instantly fell backwards onto the ground, landing hard on her bum. Ashton felt more embarrassed than anything else for not looking where she was going. She glanced to see Mitch's reaction, and she felt her face blush furiously. "I guess I need to look where I am going. Maybe I need to get my eyes checked, or maybe my coordination for that matter." As Ashton looked up at Mitch, for a split second she had this urge to just kiss him, but stopped herself, as she started to get up off the ground.

{ooc - It's taken me almost a week to reply back - so I can't say a thing lol} Mitch hadn’t meant to sound so harsh when he spoke of people calling Erin a greedy spoilt bitch but he had seen it happen to a lot of children, especially children of the rich and famous and although he might only be an author he was a pretty well known one and he wouldn’t want people to possibly think that way about Erin. Really despite the words used he had been agreeing with Ash. Thankfully she laughed a little along with him but then she too replied saying she didn’t think people would think that adding that she just felt that Erin should start to learn the basics. Mitch nodded his head and gave her a smile, “I agree with you Ashton lass just like I was agreeing before only I made a bit of a joke out of it. Kids have to be taught these things while they’re young or they never learn.” It was just difficult to at times to think of being harsh with Erin as at this age it was still quite funny but he knew that it wouldn’t be funny for her to be greedy or demanding when she got older. After Mitch had said that he and Erin cared about Ash adding especially him he saw her look away and he could have sworn he caught a slight flush on Ash’s face and wondered if what he had just said had some sort of affect on her and then immediately wondered why it would. He didn’t think he had said anything that should cause that sort of reaction. Although he had himself earlier mentally shaken off the idea that maybe he had growing feelings for Ash that he hadn’t been aware of. Ash soon turned to him with a smile and commented about it being great adding that she didn’t think she would be there if she didn’t care about them. Mitch gave her a smile then and replied saying, “Aye, well I guess not lass.” After Mitch had gone to get Erin ready he had heard Ash shout if he needed any help but he had managed to get it done by himself and had walked into the living room saying as much. He caught that bright smile of Ash’s and couldn’t help but think how gorgeous it was and how it lit up her whole face. Then he swallowed wondering why he had suddenly just thought that, it wasn’t as if it was the first time she had ever smiled at him like that. She replied saying she could see that and also said it was no problem about getting the picnic basket sorted. Mitch gave her a bright smile back in return. After placing the picnic basket under Erin’s buggy he had made the comment about walking to the park and Ash soon replied to that. He had to laugh a little at what she said, “Could do with the sun myself lass, what with usually being indoors working on a book.” Mitch replied although to be fair he could still sit in the sun writing his books when he used his laptop. **** 20 minutes later **** The walk to the park had been nice just like Mitch thought it would be due to it being such a lovely day. He would occasionally glance in Ash’s direction and when he did he couldn’t stop thinking how gorgeous she was. It wasn’t that he hadn’t believed her to be gorgeous before because Ashton was a very beautiful woman, he had just never really given it much thought before because he was a grieving husband with a young baby. Now however, months had passed and with Ash’s help he had begun to move on with his life and now he was seeing Ash’s beauty in a whole new light. It did make him wonder if he should say something to her or not, but he was a bit scared that if he did say something he might chase her away and he wasn’t sure he was ready to watch her walk out of his life. They had stopped off at the bakery where Ash had insisted on paying for the sausage rolls and Mitch had only protested once knowing that he wasn’t going to win the argument. Once they were inside the park Ash soon pointed out a spot where they could go which was under some shady trees. Mitch smiled brightly, “Aye, looks like a perfect place lass.” He replied and followed her to the spot she had pointed out. Mitch followed her and he too caught the couple who seemed to be in love and for a second it made him think of Heather and how they had been in the park once or twice with a picnic so obviously in love like this couple were. He then watched as Ash had walked too far and bumped into a tree which knocked her onto her backside. Mitch knew he shouldn’t really do this until he found out if she was okay but he just couldn’t stop himself from letting out a small laugh as he put his hand over his mouth trying to muffle it somewhat but knowing that it was really doing nothing. He soon caught that she was blushing furiously and really he couldn’t blame her, he knew he would probably be embarrassed as hell if he had fallen onto his backside like that. He composed himself and gave her a weak smile, “Sorry, I shouldn’t have laughed, are you alright Ashton lass?” He asked stopping the buggy and putting the brake on so it wouldn’t roll back or forward and held his hands out to help Ash up onto her feet. Ash soon spoke about getting her eyes tested or her coordination and Mitch just shook his head a little, “I don’t think so Ashton lass, I think you might have just been too busy looking at that romantic couple, I have to say I was looking at them myself.” Once he had helped Ashton to her feet and seeing how close she was from his face he had no idea why he did what he did but he kissed her. It wasn’t a passionate kiss by any means and he certainly didn’t use his tongue. It was just a soft and tender kiss like their lips just brushed each other and he let it linger for a second or two and then he pulled away slowly and looked into her eyes. “Sorry about that Ashton, not quite sure what came over me, maybe it was that couple, or maybe...” He trailed off remembering what he thought about earlier about not being ready to see Ash walk out of his life and then he thought bugger it and continued, “...or maybe I meant it.”

Once the sausage rolls had been paid for, they headed towards the park. When Ashton had pointed out a perfect spot for them, she turned and looked at Mitch, who was smiling and said that it looked like the perfect spot. She smiled back, and then walked in the direction she had pointed out. Though the loved up couple had caught her eye, and due to this has made her walk into a tree, landing on her bum. She had looked up at Mitch, who was obviously trying not to laugh at her. Ash felt her face was so hot from the embarrassment that she just wanted to crawl into a hole and come back out next week.
Mitch soon apologised for laughing, and asked if she was alright. "I guess. More my ego I guess is bruised." She then spoke of getthing things checked because of what happened. Mitch pretty much said no to what she said, and Ashton took his hand to help herself up with. He spoke more, and then felt embarrassed for what he noticed her looking at. She was soon up on her feet, and slowly removed her hand from his own, brushing the grass off the bum of her pants. Ashton slowly looked up at Mitch, who then kissed her.
Ashton never expected it from Mitchell, but somehow it felt right. She slowly closed her eyes, and felt her arms slowly come up and around his torso, meeting at the back of him. The kiss just lasted for a couple of seconds, when Ash felt Mitch pull away out of it. Ash slowly opened her eyes, then realised what happened, letting her arms fall from being around Mitch to being back at her sides. She let her teeth just barely scraps along her bottom lip, feeling how his lips felt on her own. Mitch soon apologised, and she instantly shook her head, though her hand came up and her fingers barely brushed her lips.
Ashton swallowed a little, and she listened to what he had to say. She looked over to where the couple was, but they had since moved on, so Ashton looked back as Mitch trailed off. Ashton looked into his eyes, and couldn't look away. She swallowed again when Mitch finally said that maybe he meant it, in regards to the kiss. Ashton, all of a sudden felt like she couldn't breath, and turned around, and bent over slightly, trying to calm down. Oh God, thought Ash, what is happening. She knew full well what was happening, she was having a panic attack. Ashton tried to take in a few deep breaths, but it wasn't working. she couldn't understand why she was doing this. She had feelings for him, and now this was her way of expressing them, by paniking.
Ashton quickly sat down near the pram, and put her head down. What she said next might have sounded muffled, but Mitch had a right to know. "Sorry Mitch. I guess what you did and said caught me by surprise." She then looked up at him with a pained expression on her face, "Or maybe not." Ash then shook her head, "I don't know." She took in a couple of deep breaths, trying and soon feeling herself starting to calm down. Once she felt less paniked, Ashton got up, and looked at Mitchell. "I'm sorry, I don't know what I am trying to say. I...." Ashton moved closer to Mitch, then stepped back a little. "I just think it has been far too long since I have had to recipricate feelings, and I am just confused, and.... overwhelmed, and all of the other shit emotions that I am feeling right now, and it isn't helping the situation. And if I stop talking long enough I can do this...." Ashton instantly put both hands up to his face, and planted a kiss on his lips.

When Mitch had stopped laughing and asked Ashton if she was alright she soon replied. He gave her a weak smile as she said she guessed she was alright and it more her ego that was bruised. Most of the time when you fell like that it was your ego and pride that hurt the most. “Well if it helps I don’t think anybody saw you apart from me and I’m not going to tell anybody.” Mitch said giving her a warm smile hoping that she would begin to feel better about the fall she had had. He had then helped Ashton to her feet and seconds later he had kissed her not entirely sure why he had chosen that moment to do so but knowing that he was certain his feelings had been growing for Ash over the past week or two but finally had come to light today.
When he had kissed her even though it was just a brief one he soon felt Ashton’s arms go around him and he wondered if he should continue with the kiss if Ashton seemed to be enjoying it. But still he pulled away from it in case Ashton soon realised what she was doing and slapped him for his efforts or something. Mitch had then apologised saying he wasn’t sure what he had come over him blaming the couple but then had decided to be honest and just said that maybe he had meant it. He now wasn’t sure what Ash was going to say or do to that.
He watched as Ash bent over slightly and Mitch frowned wondering if she was in pain and was about to ask her if she was okay when he then watched her sit down next to the pram with her head down and at first Mitch was going to go down to her level but not sure as to what she was going to say to what he had said he decided it would be best to stay up on his feet. Ash soon spoke even though it wasn’t particularly clear but he was able to understand what she was saying. She apologised saying that what he did had caught her by surprise. “Well I can understand that lass as it took me by surprise too, these feelings have just sort of crept up on me.” Mitch said to her but then Ash looked up at him with an expression that looked pained and then she said that maybe it hadn’t taken her by surprise adding that she didn’t know.
It was clear to Mitch that Ash was obviously very confused and it was all down to him kissing her like that. “I’m sorry I’ve made you confused lass.” Mitch said in a bit of a sad voice wishing that he hadn’t done what he did. The last thing he wanted to do was lose a good friendship. Ash had helped him out so much since Heather had died and since Ash had moved in he had seen her purely as a friend up until maybe about a week or two ago when these feelings started to surface but had desperately tried not to do anything about them as he thought it was down to missing Heather so much. Then he realised earlier that day that it was nothing to do with missing Heather it was because he was having genuine feelings for Ashton.
Mitch then watched as Ash got back up onto her feet again and looked at him and spoke again saying she wasn’t sure what she was trying to say. Then she trailed off and Mitch was going to say something when she spoke some more although it was all coming out in a bit of a ramble and Mitch was moving his head up and down and from side to side as if he was trying to follow what she was saying and then he felt her hands on his face and she kissed him. Mitch didn’t waste any time putting his arms around her waist with one on her lower back and the other at the back of her neck and kissed her back. This time the kiss wasn’t just a brief one like before, he put some passion into it and really opened up to her with the kiss.
After a couple of minutes Mitch pulled away from the kiss but left his arms where they were and looked into her eyes, “Well that was nice and a little unexpected, I don’t know why but after I kissed you before I could have sworn I was going to get a slap. I think these feelings have been creeping up on me over the past week or two but didn’t dare believe them or act on them. A part of me even thought it was simply because I was missing Heather too much but earlier today I realised that it was nothing to do with that, it was simply down to the fact that I have growing feelings for you and if that returned kiss is anything to go by I have to believe that you have growing feelings for me too?” Mitch said, hoping that the kiss they had just shared was indeed confirming that they both had growing feelings for each other.
He looked into the pram and saw that Erin was asleep for now and he then put the blanket down onto the ground and beckoned for Ashton to sit down and when she did he followed. “The next question is, where do we go from here? Are you happy to enter into a relationship, or would you feel better if we remained friends? Although I guess that is going to be awkward after that kiss and since you moved to help me with Erin then you kind of don’t have anywhere to stay and I’ll be damned if I know why I’m doing the whole female rambling thing now.” Mitch said and began to laugh a little as he waited to see what Ash was going to say to any of what he had just rambled out to her.

Ash gave Mitch a small smile, and shook her head slightly at what he said. "Good. Would hate to be the laughing stock." She then laughed, now not finding the incident that bad. Initially she felt so embarrassed, but now not so much. It would be laughed about down the line, she knew that to be a fact, and just a little mishap to share when in a group who were sharing embarrassing moments.
After Ashton felt herself having a panic attack, she had tried to speak, with her head down. Hearing what he said about his feeling towards her creeping up on him made her wonder how long that had been going on for. She then heard Mitch apologised for confusing her, and felt bad for the way she was acting. It was like she was younger than she actually was, and she had to get up and act like the grown up she was.
Ash finally got up, and tried to explain herself as much as she could. It was just a scramble of words, and she didn't know if Mitch was really understand what she was trying to say. But finally she stopped talking, and kissed him, with her hands on his face. Ash soon felt Mitch's arms around her, and his hands on her body. She pressed her lips to his, and then slowly opened up her mouth, and soon felt Mitch do the same thing. Ash could feel her heart racing a mile a minute, and in a way she was waiting for her heart to just break through her chest. But she knew it was just part of what she was feeling right now. Feelings like nothing she had felt for some time. Work always got in the way of her dating, and now with spending all this time with Mitch, it just led to the one thing that she knew she needed right now.
As Mitch pulled away from the kiss, Ashton let out a breath, and knew that the way she was feeling right now was the best feeling. She raised her eyebrows at what he said about getting a slap, and he continued to speak. Ashton placed a hand on her hip, frowned slightly, "What makes you think that I go arond slapping guys who try to make a move on me?" She then laughed, removing her hand from her hip and placing it on Mitch's arm. "And it was nice, and very much unexpected. And in all honesty, I never really thought of you like that. Maybe today it was sort of playing around in my head, but nothing major to make me stop and wonder, or question it that much. I guess if you had been thinking about it over the past week or two, then I never noticed."
She moved her gaze to where he was looking and saw that Erin was asleep. Erin was definitely a great child, at this age at least. Soon Mitch beckoned for her to sit down on the blanket, and Ash slowly sat down, and shifted to be close to him when he sat down. He soon asked her where they wre to go from here, adding more questions for her to answer. She didn't know what to say as really it just happened, and she hadn't had a moment to think about it. But she guessed that now that they had some quiet time that talking about it was on the cards.
She pulled at some grass, then looked at Mitch. "I am more than happy to be in a relationship with you, if you are more than happy to acknowledge that my job can be demanding." Ashton then placed a hand on his arm, and really look at him. "That said, I am sure that I am going to love being in a relationship with you Mitch. I have loved being there for you and Erin, and I know that I am going to love it even more now." Ashton then lent her head on his shoulder, and looked at Erin. She sighed contently, and wondered now what her life was going to be like.

When Ash said she would hate to be the laughing stock Mitch felt his laugh die down as he felt a little bad when he heard her say that. He looked at her seriously before saying, “Ash lass you will never be a laughing stock.” He replied and then gave her a bit of a smile, he might have found what happened to her a little funny but he would never look at Ash as a laughing stock.
After the moment Ash seemed to have and then got up onto her feet and tried to explain herself in a ramble of words she had just gave up and kissed him back. It felt good to Mitch and it also felt natural to him. Once his arms were around her and they had both opened up to each other in the kiss and it was enjoyable the length it lasted for and Mitch knew that it was the right thing for him and the right thing for them.
When Mitch pulled away from the kiss he had mentioned about it being unexpected and nice but then had gone on to say that he thought she was going to slap him after he had initiated the kiss between them. He watched as she raised her eyebrows slightly and then the hand went on her hip and he thought ‘here comes trouble’ but chuckled to himself. She then asked him what made him think she went around slapping guys who made a move on her and he made to open his mouth but Ash then laughed and placed a hand on his arm and when she spoke some more he couldn’t help but to let a warm smile spread over his face. “Well I’m glad you thought it was nice lass, and I guess I’ve done well at keeping the feelings to myself because I wasn’t completely sure of them to be perfectly honest. What I mean is I couldn’t be sure if they were genuine for you or if it was just because I was missing Heather, but earlier back at the house it came to me that they were most definitely genuine and then I didn’t know what to do with them.” Mitch explained in another slight ramble. He then placed his hand over the hand that was on his arm.
Mitch had soon beckoned for Ash to sit down on the blanket and then threw a myriad of questions at her in a slightly rambling way. He did wonder what she might say but he wondered why he had said it all in such a rambling mess when he was never usually like that. He watched as she pulled at the grass and he wondered if that was going to be a good or a bad sign. He was glad he didn’t have to wait too long to find out as Ash soon began to reply to him. He nodded his head as he listened to what she had to say not really wanting to interrupt her until she was finished. He knew that her job could be demanding and sometimes he had to get busy with his own job when he had a deadline for a book he had to finish.
He watched as she placed a hand on his arm and continued to talk and he felt his heart flutter at her words. Ash then leant her head on his shoulder and he couldn’t help but tilt his head slightly so that it was gently leaning on hers. “Well, you’ve been with me for quite some time now and I think it’s fair to say that I know how your job can be and that isn’t going to get in the way and I have loved that you have been there for Erin and me and I think I can speak for both of us when I say that we are going to love it more now too.” He wrapped an arm around Ashton’s shoulder then and pulled her gently closer to him. It did make him wonder about Erin and a thought went through his head but he wasn’t sure if he mentioned it if it could be pushing things too far or not but with what she had called Ashton earlier he just couldn’t stop thinking about it.
He decided to just go with it, “If this is too much too soon lass, then just say so, but I was wondering since we’re on this whole official relationship thing and taking into consideration what Erin called you earlier, how you would feel about the possibility of adopting her as your own? I trust you with both our lives and it’s obvious to me that Erin loves you and obviously thinks you’re her mama already anyway.” He then straightened up to look at her seriously, “You don’t have to say yes, but I just thought I would put it to you after everything that’s happened so far.” His heart suddenly began to beat furiously in his chest as he knew that it might all be too much for her because thinking about it rationally it was all happening quite fast suddenly.

After Ash had mucked around with him a bit, she listened to what Mitch had to say. She nodded when he mentioned the fact that he had done well with keeping his feeling to himself. Ashton couldn't agree more, as she had never picked up on it, or maybe she had other things on her mind to actually notice. She listened more to what he had to say, and her heart went out to him with what he said. Ashton thought that he had been dealing with things rather well, after the terrible time he had been having after Heather passed.
She then looked down at where he had his hand now, over her own. Ashton looked up at him with a warm smile on her face. "I never noticed, so you did well." Then her face became more serious, "I can't say I have been in your situation, but I guess I can kind of understand what you mean about not knowing if your feelings are real or not." Ash had never really been in that situation, having someone who she was married to die. She had never gotten that far in a relationship, marriage not the other.
After Ashton had expressed herself towards what Mitch had said and asked, she listened to what he said in reply. It definitely seemed to Ash that Mitch truly did think of her alot, and what she has been able to do for him and Erin. All she could do at the end of what he said was just smile at him. She swallowed a little, then decided to answer him. But then he put an arm around her, and as he moved her close to himself, Ashton lent her head on his shoulder. Looking out towards the park, Ashton decided to speak now. "I think I am going to love it too." She looked at him then, "And I am glad that you understand about everything." Ashton then went back to leaning her head on his shoulder.
As Mitch spoke, she heard what he said at the beginning, which led her to move out of his embrace, and look at him. She slowly nodded, wondering what he was going to talk about. When she heard the word 'adopting', it made her raise her eyebrows. Sure she had been there to help look after Erin, but she wasn't sure if she would go that next step just yet. Ashton didn't want to hurt Mitchell's feelings either. As he looked at her, she hoped that he didn't notice how she was right now.
Ashton bit the inside of her cheek, and thought about it for a second. But really, she knew the answer to the question already. Ash looked over at Erin in the pram, and her heart melted all over again, but still wasn't going to change her mind at all, well for now anyway. She finally made eye contact with Mitch, and softly took his hand in her own. "Mitch, as much as I love Erin, I am not sure if that step is the right one for now. We are just starting out after all. What would happen if we didn't feel it was working? What would happen to Erin? Of cause she would stay with you, but then with the adoption, I would also have legal right. Do you get me? Let's just take one step at a time." Ashton squeezed his hand gently, hoping that he would understand where she was coming from.

When Mitch had spoken about believing that he had hidden his feelings well Ash soon responded to this saying that she never noticed so he had done well. He gave her a weak smile to acknowledge her words. Mitch then saw a serious look come over Ash’s face and she began to speak again and he had to nod his head at what he was hearing her say about not really being in his situation but could kind of understand what he was saying about his feelings being real or not. Mitch gave her another weak smile, “It was kind of awkward I admit lass, but I guess today sort of brought it to a head so to speak.” Mitch replied and then gave her a slightly warmer smile.
When Mitch spoke more about how much Ashton had done for him and Erin he had then put his arm around her and pulled her closer to him and then Ash soon replied to what he had said. He smiled at her response and kept thinking how everything just suddenly seemed to be falling into place for the both of them just now. Ash had then looked at him and added that she was glad he understood about everything and all he could do was give her a bright smile. Well if he wanted to have her in his life then he had to accept her job and the fact that she would be busy. It was good that Mitch’s job could allow him to be at home, he was just thankful that Erin was more settled now so that when she did sleep he could get his writing done then, or even if she was awake and in her playpen she seemed to be able to know when he needed to work on his writing.
After being in the embrace for a short time Mitch had thought of something else to say to Ash or more to the point, ask her and had basically told her to say no if she felt it was too soon and had then gone and asked her to adopt Erin as it was obvious that she already thought of Ash as her mama anyway. The soon as he had asked he felt like maybe he shouldn’t have and had this feeling that it was too much too soon. It seemed like forever to Mitch before Ash said anything but first took his hand in her own and he just knew that she was going to say no and knew in that instant that he shouldn’t have suggested it.
What she was saying was making sense but he didn’t see that they would have a problem with their relationship but at the same time, having Ash adopt Erin as her own would make it difficult if things did happen to go wrong with them. A part of him understood completely but another part of him also felt a bit disappointed but hopefully he wasn’t going to show that. He had said that she could say no after all. He caressed the back of her hand with his thumb and looked at her with a soft smile on his face. “I get what you’re saying lass, and I guess you’re right, I’m sorry I mentioned it, I should have known it was too soon.” He replied and sighed a little thinking how foolish he felt now, he should have left it.
Just then Erin began to cry and he got up from where he was and bent over the pram and lifted Erin out and hugged her to him. With his back facing Ash for now as he continued to hug his daughter he felt his emotions getting the better of him over it all and a tear escaped one of his eyes, he quickly wiped it away with a hand and sniffed trying to compose himself. A part of him was still missing Heather naturally and a part of him was sad for Erin knowing that she would never know her real mother and that was tugging at his heart strings slightly. However going back to what Ash said about the adoption he knew that she was making sense and despite what she said, he knew that his feelings for Ash were still real and if taking it one step at a time was what she wanted to do then that’s what they would do. It was all coming down to what was best for Erin with his question about adoption and right now keeping things the way they were was the right thing.
Mitch picked up one of the bottles from the baby bag and then made his way back to the blanket and sat down putting the bottle into Erin’s mouth and she began to drink the milk. Mitch then turned to Ash and gave her a weak smile, “I’m sorry about that lass, I guess I just had a bit of a moment, I’m sorry again, I need to make a mental note not to ask questions about the future without putting through process into it.”
