16th June 2009 Hailey was sitting in her room, fiddling with the material on her dress. She was feeling nervous for some reason, but she could sort of explain it. Ever since that chance meeting with Nick, that afternoon, she had begun to have feelings for him. She had never acted on them at all. Hailey had soon realised that they went to the same school, which was cool with her. So they instantly became friends. She liked that, as she didn't make any new friends, specially guy ones, since she moved to New York. Nick always spoke to her, and she felt special in a way. He had his own friends, including Stephen, who she had met that afternoon. But most of the time, he would sit with her at lunch, or if they had class together, would sit with her there too. Hailey occassionally wondered what it would be like to be his girlfriend, but then thought that it might just ruin the friendship that they had now. She was so confused, and had no one really to confide in. So now, Hailey decided to get up off her bed, and finish getting ready for this dance at school. She hadn't really talked about it to Nick, but only a week ago, she decided to mention it in passing, as they walked passed a poster in the halls. Hailey decided to suggest that they go as friends, as it might be fun. So they both agreed on it. And now here is was. The dance was tonight. Heading into the bathroom, Hailey applied her mascara, and some silvery eye shadow on her eyelids, and a little under her bottom eyelashes. The final touch, some peach lipgloss. Done. Picking up her mobile, she checked the time. Boy, time goes fast when you are nervous. Hailey quickly made her way back to her bedroom, put on her shoes, and then grabbed her purse. The last thing she did was spray on some perfume. Looking into her small mirror in her room, she stared to see if she looked okay. Hailey smiled at herself in the mirror, and then headed down to the living area, to wait for Nick to arrive. She sat in the lounge, and began to feel even more nervous. So to calm herself down, Hailey put in her iPod, and turned to the only song that could calm her down. Never Dream Alone by Ashlee Simpson.

When Nick had moved to the States, he had already left school. Well, his mum taught him at home to be more precise due to him being bullied at school due to his condition. Nick suffers from diabetes, and he hates when he has to take his insulin. He's not overly keen on needles, and he always goes on a downer when he's just had to inject himself. So, when the family decided to move away from the UK and to the States, Nick was already at an age where he didn't have to attend school and could get a job, which was what he done initially. He was working at a supermarket, packing the shelves and serving, but when he had that chance meeting that day and became friends with Stephen and then Hailey had come along, Nick soon realised he didn't have eyes for anything else. However, she had to leave soon after, but Hailey had given him her number, and he had beamed. Realising that school maybe wasn't such a bad idea in the States, he decided to attend and lucked out when he joined the same school as Hailey. Nick actually enjoys school in the States, and he soon became close friends with Hailey, not pushing her in anyway at all, because as much as he liked her, he wasn't the type to do that, and besides they had a fantastic friendship which was something he didn't want to ruin, but he liked her a lot. No, he didn't just like her a lot, he was pretty sure after the few weeks they had been friends for he might even love her, well he loved her as a friend for sure, but could it be something more? When Hailey suggested the dance, Nick thought his heart was going to explode, he was toying with the idea of asking her over and over, but wasn't sure of her reaction. She wanted to go as friends, and Nick agreed. It was now the night of the dance, and Nick was dressed in a black tux and white shirt, and had a corsage for Hailey to wear. He knocked on the door, and then waited for her to answer the door, and when it was opened, Nick smiled brightly at her. "You look bloody beautiful Hailey." He said and then handed her over the little box, "This is for you, I hope you like it." He said, and then waited for her to step out, he had his arm held out for her to take, there was a hired limousine waiting to take them to the dance. The Corsage

Hailey was getting into the song, when her mum tapped her on the shoulder. Almost jumping out of her skin, she instantly pulled the earphones out of her ears. "Sorry. What?" "I think he is here sweetie. Do you want to let him in or me?" Hailey put her iPod down, and put it on the table. Smiling at her mum, shook her head, "No, I will." With that, Hailey grabbed her purse, and opened the door.
There stood Nick, all dressed up in a black tux and white shirt, and with a bright smile on his face. He sure did look handsome. "Thanks Nick. You don't scrub up too bad either." That was a fact. Nick then handed her a little box, which contained a corsage. "Oh Nick, it is beautiful." Hailey handed Nick the corsage for him to put it on her wrist. Once it was on, Hailey called out bye to her mum, and then moved outside, closing the door behind her. She noticed Nick put his arm out for her to take, which she slowly did. Looking down and smiling, Hailey felt a bit giddy from it all.
As they moved from the house, Hailey saw the limo waiting for them. She stopped and gasped. Hailey had never ridden in a limo before, and now this would be her first time. "Wow, this must have set you back a bit. But it is nice to go into the dance in style." Hailey waited for Nick to continue to walk to the limo. The driver came out, and opened the door for them. Hailey moved ahead of Nick, and slowly moved inside and sat down. She felt like a princess going off to the fancy ball or something. Looking down at the corsage that Nick had given her, she fingered the flowers. They were beautiful, and went well with her dress.

Nick could only grin, and blush ever so slightly when Hailey said that he didn't scrub up too bad himself. "Well, thank you m'lady" Nick said, trying to use the posh speak Brits often used and felt as if he failed a little. He and Hailey had become really good friends, but right now, he couldn't believe he was about to attend the school dance with her. He had been attracted to her the first day he met her, but had kept his feelings to himself, not wanting to ruin the friendship. But now, looking at her all dressed up for the party, he wondered if tonight might be the night, where things might develop between them further.
He still wouldn't push it however, he would only move that extra step if he was certain Hailey was ready for it. He was glad Hailey liked the corsage he got her. "I'm glad you like it." He replied, as he slipped it onto her wrist, after she handed it to him to put on, he then looked at her again, lifted up the hand he just put the corsage on and kissed the back of her hand. "Stunning. Simply stunning!" He said as he kept wondering how lucky he was to be taking one of the most beautiful girls at the school to the dance that night.
He had then held his arm out for her to take so he could walk her to the limo his mum had helped him to hire for the night. It made him smile and feel good to know that Hailey was really happy about the limo. "Mum helped me, but I am glad you like it, I wanted this night to be special, just like you are." He said, and then blushed slightly again, realising what he had just said, but not sorry he said it.
Once Hailey got into the limo, Nick slid in next to her. "Bloody brilliant this." He said and laughed a little. There were two glasses and a bottle of sparkling lemonade. Well it couldn't be champagne, since they were too young to drink alcohol, even in the UK, Nick would still have been too young at sixteen to drink alcohol. Nick poured out a glass and handed it to Hailey and then poured himself one. He the raised his glass, and grinned, "To us a bloody brilliant evening."
It shouldn't take them too long to get to the school, as they didn't live too far away from it. Personally, Nick couldn't wait to walk into the dance with Hailey on his arm, he knew he was going to be one of the proudest guys at the dance.

Hailey noticed him blush a little when she said that he didn't scrub up too bad in his tux. She thought it was cute. Sometimes it was nice to see a guy let down their hard exterior and see a softer side to them. Maybe this was the night that Hailey might see that in Nick. She was always doing the friend thing with him, and now maybe tonight it might lead to seeing him in a new light, and her as well with him.
Hailey watched as Nick put on the corsage, and then felt a bit light headed when he took her hand, after looking at her, and kissed the back of it. The touch of his lips on her skin felt nice, and she had to keep her composure, as to not collapse if her knees gave way. Luckily they didn't. But when he said that either the corsage or she was stunning. Hailey felt deep down that he meant her, and this thought made her smile, and blush slightly.
Hailey listened when Nick said that his mum helped him with the limo. He then said he was glad that she liked it, and that he wanted the night to be special like she was. Now that was something she had hoped he would think she was - special. But now he had said it, Hailey wondered if all that had been said between them, or maybe more like what has been done between them so far, would lead to the magical ending Hailey had always dreamed of. "Well, it was nice of your mum to help. And I hope that the nice is special, and that I don't disappoint." Hailey hadn't been on many dates herself, and wasn't sure how she would go.
Nick slid in beside her in the limo, and she had to laugh a little when he spoke. She loved his accent, thinking that it fitted him so well. She hoped that he never lost it, what with now being in America and all. People often lost their own accents amongst the many here. It was kind of annoying. Maybe the American accent just overruns everything that gets said. Hailey then watched Nick pour out two glasses of the sparkling lemonade, and handed her one. Maybe this might calm her nerves a little.
When he raised his glass, and then said 'to us a bloody brilliant evening', Hailey nodded, and clinked her glass with his. "Yes. To us. I am sure that the evening will be a brilliant and magical night." Hailey then took a sip of the lemonade. The bubbles got to her nose a little, and she wiped at it a couple of times. She just hoped that she was lady enough to not burp. Anything bubbly or fizzy did that to her. When around guys, they didn't seem to care, but she was with Nick, and hoped that it would stay inside till she was alone and could let one rip.

When Nick kissed the back of her hand, he noticed that Hailey didn't say anything, so he assumed it was fine to have done so, but when he said she looked stunning after he had put the corsage on, even though she looked stunning before it anyway, he did notice her blush a little. But then, he had blushed when she said he didn't scrub up so bad in his tux. Nick had a feeling that this night was going to be very special indeed.
Nick smiled as Hailey said it was nice of his mum to help lay on the limo for the evening. When she said she hoped the night was special and she wouldn't disappoint, he shook his head, "You could never disappoint Hailey." He then grinned at her, he was really looking forward to the evening, just spending the whole time with Hailey. Walking in with the most stunning girl on his arm, and then dancing with her all night. It really was going to be bloody brilliant.
Once inside the limo Nick had poured them both a glass of the sparkling lemonade. It really was sparkling as well, he could feel the bubbles and fizzing tickling the back of his throat when he took a sip of it. After he had raised his glass to toast the both of them and their evening, he was happy to see Hailey agree with him. He grinned at her and even felt himself wink slightly, "Well, I plan to make it a brilliant night." He immediately felt himself blush again after saying that.
Everything he was saying about Hailey was true, but inside he was still a little worried that she may only want to be friends, and he didn't want to spoil anything between them, by looking for more from her than she was expecting. However, hearing her say those words about a brilliant and magical night made him believe that he wasn't the only one hoping for more out of the evening.
About another ten minutes later the limo pulled up outside the school. Nick opened the door, slid out, and then held his hand out for Hailey to take. Once she was standing beside him, he held his arm out for her to take, and then he turned in the direction of the entrance to the school and began to lead her up the steps and into the hall where they were holding the dance. He was just bursting with pride now, he was so happy to have Hailey with him.

Hailey looked at Nick as he said that he planned to make it a brilliant night. Then she saw him blush. She felt something happening between them at that moment in the limo. The company, the toast, everything felt right. Nick was a great friend to have, and it felt to Hailey that something else mght happen between before the night was out. But that was a while away yet. You never know what might happened between now and then. On the short drive to the school, there was some silence, but that was fine with Hailey. She continued to think about what the night might hold for them. But she thought that maybe she shouldn't think about it too much, and have a good time. And then just let the night pan out, and if it leads to them getting together, all well and good. They were soon at the school, and the limo pulled up to a stop outside. Hailey watched as Nick opened his side of the limo, and got out. He then extended his hand out of her to take, which she did gently. She slid out of the limo, and stood up next to him. Hailey then took his arm, and followed him up the steps of the school. The hall, where the dance was to be held, wasn't that far away from this side of the school. Hailey just kept letting Nick lead her all the way. She saw a couple of students looking at them, some staring a little. Hailey was kind of put off by it all. She hated being the centre of attention, and it looked like that tonight she might just be the topic of discussion with some of the students who were at the dance. They were soon at the entrance to the hall, and Hailey was almost blown away with what the dance committee had done. There were already some students there already. They had managed to build up the middle section of the hall so that there could be dancing on there, and then tables on the outskirts. Hailey turned to Nick. "Wow. I think I am glad that I came tonight."

After Nick had said he planned on making it a brilliant night, a silence fell between them the rest of the short journey to the school. Silences could sometimes be awkward, but not this one. Nick had used the silence to think about Hailey and how gorgeous she looked and how he hoped the night might end for them.
He then wondered if Hailey was thinking the same thing, but he shook his head mentally, because from what he could see, she saw the both of them as just good friends, which of course they were, but Nick wouldn't have said not to being so much more. He had adored Hailey from the moment he first met her that day, she was his inspiration for packing in his supermarket job and going back to school. Just so he could be near her, and spend time with her.
Soon they had reached the school and when Nick had offered his hand to help Hailey out the limo, she took it, and then took his arm so he could lead her up the steps and into the school hall. He had to admit that it did indeed look lovely, they really had done a good job with the organisation of the night. He had looked at Hailey then and gave her a bright smile, ignoring everybody who was now looking at them. He was only interested in Hailey, and feeling so proud to be walking in with her.
Hailey then said wow and how she was glad she had came to the dance. Nick nodded head his and smiled brightly at her again. "Yeah, and I'm bloody glad as well." He laughed a little after it, he then gently guided her into the hall. He wasn't sure if she would want anything to drink first, or just go right into a dance. There seemed to be quite a few students already up on the floor dancing anyway.
He turned to her, "What would you like to do first Hailey? Get a drink or go for a dance?" He didn't want to just assume anything, because he wanted this night to be special, and he had learned assumptions could be a very, very, bad thing.

When Hailey was taken aback at how the hall was for the dance, she saw Nick smile at her. She returned the gesture with her own smile. He did look handsome in his tux, and she soon saw that he was the most good looking boy in the whole room. Hailey then commented about how she was glad that she had come to the dance, Nick had nodded in agreement, and said that he was bloody glad as well. That accent was stronger than ever, and Hailey smiled all the more at him. He then guided her into the hall.
As they moved inside, Hailey took note of where everything was. There was the dance floor right ahead, to the left a makeshift bar, where the drinks and food was served, and the around the dancefloor the tables, where you could just sit and chat. They stopped after stepping inside, and Nick asked her what she wanted to do. Well, she had just had a small drink in the limo, but she felt a bit nervous now for some reason. "Um, a drink would be good, and some food."
So Hailey headed in the direction of the bar with Nick. Here she looked to see what was on there, and reached for the ladle to the punch bowl. Scooping some of it into a cup, Hailey put the ladle back, and took a sip. It was rather nice, and something cool to drink. She soon knew that the hall would be a bit hot later, what with all the students in one room. Hailey then scanned what there was to offer in the way of food, and soon saw some finger food. She used the food servers to pick out some sausage rolls, cheese and biscuits. She didn't want to see like she was stuffing herself, as she knew she would come back later.
Hailey then waited for Nick to finish with what he wanted, and then moved to the nearest table. Sitting down, Hailey put down her cup and plate of food, and carefully sat on the chair, as to not wrinkle her dress too much. She took another sip of the punch, and put down the cup. Looking out at the dance floor, it did look inviting. It was dimly lit, with some nice array of lights above. She wondered if Nick and herself would dance to the slow songs or just the more upbeat ones. Hailey secretly hoped that they would get in a slow dance sometime during the night.

When Nick had asked Hailey what she wanted to do first, get a drink or dance, she had opted to get something to drink and maybe something to eat first. Nick nodded his head, "Sure." He then headed toward the bar along with Hailey, after she had poured herself a cup of punch, Nick did the same thing. He took a sip of it, and it did seem to taste really nice, he just hoped that nobody had managed to get smart and spike the punch with alcohol. He knew it was common back in England for them to do that smart move. It was also the cause of a lot of unwanted teenage pregnancies, because they got drunk and didn't know what they were doing.
Nick then followed Hailey to where the food was, and more or less picked up the same as Hailey, and then he smiled at her, as they both made their way to one of the nearest tables. Nick sat down and then just looked across at Hailey, he took a few sips of his punch, but realised even though he had picked up some food, he couldn't really eat it. He didn't know why, maybe it was nerves, or just the excitement of everything. But he actually felt that if he tried to eat anything he might be sick.
So he ended up leaving the food untouched for now, realising that he was finding it very difficult to take his eyes off of Hailey, she just looked so beautiful this evening. There had already been a couple of songs one, one which was a bit upbeat and another which was slow. Nick had already hesitated over asking her to dance at the slow number, so when the upbeat one was finished and another slow song came on, The Climb by Miley Cyrus, Nick then looked over at Hailey, "Would you like to dance now Hailey?" Looking over at the students who were already up and dancing, Nick hoped Hailey might be ready for a dance now.

Hailey saw Nick follow her, in regards to getting a drink, and then obtaining some food from the buffet which laid out before them. When they sat down at the table, she did catch Nick looking at her, after she gazed out at the dance floor. Hailey smiled at him, after she took a bit of the sausage roll that was on her plate. "The dance floor does look really good." She then took a sip of the punch.
Then Nick asked if she wanted to dance now. Hearing the song, she thought that she should. "I suppose so. I do like the song." So Hailey got up, pushing her chair in, and followed Nick to the dance floor. Looking around at the students who were already on the dance floor, Hailey noticed a few of them looking in their direction. Each time she caught the eye of one of them, they would look away.
Hailey felt butterflies in her stomache. She wondered if she had done the right think in asking Nick to the dance. Was she even the right girl for him? Should she really be here tonight with him? It felt wrong, what with all the students looking in her direction. Hailey tried to shake those thoughts out of her head. She knew that she was there for one reason only: to be with Nick, who she was beginning to have feelings for.

When Hailey said the dance floor looked good, Nick grinned at her, "Yes, it does." Although, he was far more interested in looking at Hailey, than the dance floor.
Nick then began to mull over the food on the plate he had got himself, he just couldn't stop looking at Hailey. He knew he was staring at her a lot, and he could only hope he wasn't making her feel uncomfortable by doing so. But she looked so beautiful, it was difficult to look elsewhere. So, instead of just sitting there constantly staring and praying he wasn't making her uncomfortable, he did the only thing he could do, and asked if she wanted to dance when that next slow song came on.
Hailey then said she liked the song, and got up from her chair. Nick smiled at her, "Great." He then made his way to the dance floor, with Hailey following. He noticed that they kept getting stared at, and looking at Hailey, he was beginning to think Hailey was suddenly unsure about coming. Of course, he hoped that wasn't the case, but right now, he just wanted to get up and slap the faces of everybody who was staring at them.
Once they were on the dance floor, Nick put his arms around Hailey's waist, bringing her quite close to him, and then leaning into Hailey's ear, he said, "Don't worry about them Hailey, in our little space, it's just you and I, that's all you need to think about." With that he began to spin around slowly on the dance floor to the music with Hailey. He was actually enjoying the dance and now he just hoped that he had helped to make Hailey more comfortable.

Hailey was only thinking about why she was there, because of all the students at the dance looking at her. But she had to admit that she was having growing feelings towards Nick. In some ways, Hailey hoped that he might just feel the same way, and at the end of the night, she hoped that she might confess her feelings to him.
Once they stopped on the dance floor, Hailey felt Nick put his arms around her waist. She was not close to him, and she put her arms around his neck, resting her arms on his shoulders. Nick then leaned into her ear, saying not to worry about the students, and that it was just her and him, and that was all that she needed to think about. Hailey had to agree, and smiled at Nick, making eye contact. "I know Nick. But just seeing them all looking at me, us, I just feel a little nervous. I know that I shouldn't worry. I should just enjoy myself, as I am here with you."
They soon began to move to the music together. Hailey soon lost herself in the song, moving her arms to wrapping them around Nick's body, and resting her head on his shoulder. Here she closed her eyes, just trying to take in all that was happening between them. The night had started off so well, with Nick picking her up in a limo, and then now just being here in his arms. The night was beginning to be rather magical for Hailey. At last her life was going back to some normality for her.

Nick couldn't stop the growing feelings he had for Hailey, after all, he had liked her from the moment he had met her. But he had somehow been able to tell that back then Hailey just wanted to be friends, and Nick was glad to be her friend. But now, that they were at this dance together, he hoped the night might end with them both admitting they wanted to be just that little bit more than friends. However, that said, Nick wasn't a pushy guy, he hadn't pushed her all that time since they'd met, and he wouldn't push her now either.
Once they were on the dance floor and Nick had put his arms around Hailey's waist, he soon felt her arms around his neck and shoulders, and it felt nice. He smiled at her then. Hailey then replied to what he had said with regards to the students. "I can understand you're a little nervous Hailey, but look at this way, if they're looking at us, they're leaving others alone, besides, whose to say they aren't being stared at by other people?" He was trying to lighten the atmosphere a little, and hoped that it worked, instead of sounding like he didn't care of how Hailey was feeling, because he did care. He cared very much.
When Hailey mentioned she should just enjoy herself because she was with him, his smile brightened then. "Well that's how I'm looking at it, only, I'm enjoying myself because I'm here with you." With that, he moved one of his hands for just a second to gently touch her on the nose with a finger, before returning his hand to her waist again.
As the began to move around the dance floor slowly, he soon felt Hailey move her arms from his neck to round his body and her head lean on his shoulder. He saw she had closed her eyes, and Nick couldn't help but smile then, and soon he was resting his own her gently on top of hers, so that she was that little bit closer. He so wanted to tilt her face up to him and kiss her, but as mentioned before, Nick wasn't a pushy guy, so he put the thought out of his head, and waited until he was sure it was what Hailey wanted.

Hailey listened to what Nick said, understanding that she was a little nervous. But he then said to look at it in another way. Nick suggested that if they were looking at them, these people are leaving others alone, but these people are also probably being staired at as well by others. Hailey shrugged, "You're probably right." She hoped Nick was right. Hailey was never the centre of attention, even from where she had originally lived. But that had changed when her friend was killed, and the whole town knew. That was the one reason that the family had moved to New York.
Hailey was glad that Nick was looking at the situaiton the same as her. Maybe they were the same in some ways, especially with their thoughts. Maybe the whole thing that she had been feeling towards him, he might be feeling also. That thought brightened her up a bit then. Nick then reached up to her nose, and touched it for a second with his finger, and then his hand, moved back to where it was earlier, around her waist. She grinned, and blushed a bit. That single touch of his finger on her nose just made her tingle a bit, and confirmed her thoughts. If and when they had a moment alone later, Hailey was willing to risk their friendship, and tell him how she was feeling towards him.
Just resting her head on Nick's shoulder, was nice. The song and the atmosphere was so magical right now, and the company was just the topping on the cake for Hailey. After a few seconds, Nick rested his own head gently on her own. Now they were so close, she could have almost kissed him. But Hailey was not that type of girl. She would always wait for the guy to make the move. Or that was what she was hoping for, as she had never been kissed. Hailey had always hoped that something had happened between her best friends, but he was killed before she had the chance to tell him how she felt. Maybe tonight was the night for that moment to happen with her best friend Nick.
The song ended, and Hailey slowly raised her head, and looked at Nick. "That was nice. I haven't had that many slow dances, so it was nice to share that one with you." She then looked around, and saw that most of the dance floor was now crowded, as an upbeat song came on. "I think I might need a drink, and some air, if that is oka." She was suddenly a bit hot, even though they hadn't danced to a fast paced song.
