5th December, 2009
Damn work. That's all that sat through Matt's mind as he sipped on his beer, his backside planted on the barstool as he looked ahead at the wall behind the bar, the wine bottles all lined up and stacked neatly. He'd been here a couple of times before with the boys from work. Before they found out about the evolved human thing, and that Matt was part of their team because of his abilities. Now he was just here alone. That's how his life had been lately. Alone. Except for the random 12 year old who decided to pop in from the future to try and recruit Matt.
He just sipped another beer, as he looked at the barmaid who had served his drink to him, taking a quick glance at her before he turned back to the wall. She was attractive, he'd give her that. But he wasn't in the right state of mind for a relationship. Hell, he hadn't even spoken to his family for a year. For all they knew, Matt was working for the government. That's it. No contact, nothing. It kinda pissed Matt off that his family had decided to disconnect from him. But he didn't care. Hell, he had survived on his own before, he could do it now.
He'd finished his beer. More like his 5th beer within 2 hours. He looked at the barmaid again, raising a hand to her. "Another beer please." He said to her, smiling weakly at her. It was fun how he couldn't get drunk, thanks to his ability to heal. He could drink to his heart's content and could be fine.

It was yet another busy evening in Emilie’s father’s bar. She still couldn’t believe she was working for her father, after all the years he had been estranged from her after the death of her sister and brother. However, he had somehow managed to hear about the death of her mother Carla and her slow downward spiral of losing control of her life. She was shocked at him coming back into her life, but she was also grateful, because without him, there was no telling where she may have been. She could have been a full scale druggie with a baby or worse, she could have been dead. She had a lot to thank her father Gary for. She enjoyed working in the bar; most of the customers were always nice to her. A few had tried it on with her, and her father had said to her if that was the case, she was just to push the panic button and he’d soon come forward putting a stop to it all. A few of the bad ones had already been banned from the bar.
Emilie was dressed in a low cut pink satin crop top, and a pair of black hipsters, which showed off her perfect toned stomach and belly piercing clearly. She had just finished serving another customer, when the rather good looking guy sitting at the bar beckoned for another beer. She did notice he was good looking, but she hadn’t been with a guy since her father hauled her out of her troubles and she wasn’t in a hurry to get involved with one either, at least not quite yet anyway. It was all down to trust, Emilie didn’t have a whole lot of it after everything she had been through. Emilie was quick to notice that he must have been on about his fifth or sixth beer by now, not that she had been counting. Emilie just smiled back at him, and did as he asked, she wasn’t in the habit of telling the customers she thought they had too much, not unless they got violent, and even then she always got her father involved.
She handed over the beer, “There you go babe, that’ll be two dollars please.” After she was given the money and she put it into the till, it seemed to have quietened down for a short spell anyway, so Emilie being Emilie decided to talk to the guy, see if she could drum up a bit of friendly conversation. She leaned on her elbows on the edge of the bar and picked up a few peanuts, “So, hard day babe, don’t suppose you want to talk about it?” She never pushed the customers in anyway, she would just ask it like she just had, if they wanted to talk great, if they didn’t she just went on with her business and left them to it. Besides, she wasn’t sure how much conversation she would get out before it was her turn to sing.
Ever since her father had heard her singing in the shower, he had asked her to sing in his bar every night, at least two numbers to try and keep the customers interested. She reluctantly agreed to it, even though she didn’t think she was that great, but it pleased her father, and for what it was worth, it did seem to keep the bar busy, even if she felt it had been busy enough before she started singing to the customers.

Matt pushed the two dollars towards the barmaid, looking into her eyes as he did. He just smiled weakly as he picked up his beer and began to drink again. Chugging about a quarter of the bottle in one gulp, he put the bottle back onto the bar, looking forwards to the back wall again, sort of ignoring Emilie's presence in a way. That's when she leaned in towards Matt, picking up a couple of peanuts and asking if he had been having a hard day. He just turned to look at her, his eyes directly in line with hers.
"Not really, no." Matt said blandly as he turned away from the barmaid, looking forward towards the wall again, taking another swig of his beer. Why the hell did people want to know how he was feeling. That little brat from the future wanted him to help out in saving his future, this girl wanted to know how Matt was feeling. Matt thought if it would be a good idea to just leave and go live in the mountains for the rest of life. Which would be a while, as he discovered that he was immortal to an extent.
He looked back to see that the barmaid was still standing there, looking at him. "You're not gonna leave me alone until I talk to you, are you?" He asked her, looking at her with a bland look, an eyebrow raised slightly.

After Emilie had asked the guy if had a bad day and did he want to talk about, he replied in a rather bland voice, not really. She wasn’t sure if that was not really to having a bad day, or not really to wanting to talk about it. “That’s alright babe, if you don’t want to talk about it, I’m not gonna push ya, it isn’t my style.” She would normally have then just gone off and served another customer, but as it happened there wasn’t anybody vying for her attention right at that moment, so she stayed where she was, nibbling on the peanuts. No sooner had she thought that nobody was vying for her attention when one of the other regulars came in. Paddy, he was Irish naturally, and he loved messing around with Emilie, in a fun way of course, he was a friend of her father’s. “Top o’ the evenin’ to ye lass, are we to hear ye’re foine voice this evenin’ loike?” He asked Emilie, she pouted a little, and then gently shrugged her shoulders. She then made her way over to him, “Not sure if I feel like it tonight Paddy.” She was just teasing him, and tried to keep a straight face, which was usually hopeless with Paddy, he had one of those faces that you could just laugh at without him even saying anything. “Ah come on now lass, ye know ye’re tellin’ ole Paddy here porkies.” Emilie began to laugh loudly, it was impossible to lie to that man, impossible to keep a straight face. She then decided to mimic him, “Aye, I’ll be singin’ this evenin’ don’t ye worry about that ole man.” He then raised his eyebrow at her copying him, but he soon laughed. She poured him his usual drink which of course was Guinness and then made her way back over to where she had been standing before. It wasn’t long after she got back that the good looking guy turned to face her again and spoke. She wasn’t too sure she liked his tone, but she never got tough with customers, it just wasn’t her thing. “Just because I’m standing here babe, doesn’t mean I’m pushing you to talk. Like I said earlier, if you don’t want to talk, it’s fine.” Just then her father Gary approached her and tapped her gently on the shoulder. “Could you maybe do the first of your songs just now honey, I’ll take over the bar.” Emilie looked at her father with a raised eyebrow, it was a bit early, and then she side glanced to the guy she had been talking to and noticed that her father was glaring in his direction, so maybe he had heard the tone in the guy’s voice also. She leaned up to his ear, “It’s alright, he’s not hassling me or anything.” However, her father just shook his head, and gently pushed her in the direction of the small stage and pianist. So, Emilie made her way over to the little stage and the music started up for one of her favourite songs to sing, 'A Moment Like This’ by Leona Lewis. “What if I told you It was all meant to be Would you believe me? Would you agree? It's almost that feeling That we've met before So tell me that you don’t think I'm crazy When I tell you that love has come here and now A moment like this Some people wait a lifetime For a moment like this Some people search forever For that one special kiss Ohh I can't believe it's happening to me Some people wait a lifetime For a moment like this Everything changes, but beauty remains Something’s so tender I can't explain Ohh well I may be dreaming But till I awake Can't we make this dream last forever And I cherish all the love that we shared Could this be the greatest love of all I wanna know that you will Catch me when I fall So let me tell you this some people wait a lifetime for a moment like this.” When the song was finished she headed back to the bar and hoped that her father hadn’t said anything to the guy she had been talking to, she would be so embarrassed because she had been handling it, or so she thought. As soon as she got back behind the bar, her father Gary went back round to the other side and left her to it. However, instead of standing in the same position where the guy was, she made her way over to start talking to Paddy, thinking that if the other guy really wanted to talk, he would call her over for another drink or something. She was doing what she said, and not pushing him.

Matt just sat there as the Irish man began to talk to the barmaid, speaking as though he were her best friend. Or least someone that she knew well. When she spoke in her mock Irish accent, Matt let a smile show for a moment, before returning back to his neutral look. It was rare that Matt smiled nowadays. Especially after the Carnival's little stunt to reveal the specials to the world. The Carnival... The people Matt blamed for his current life. If they had just kept quiet, he'd be here with people from work, laughing, smiling, talking to this barmaid in an appropriate manner.
When he had said his nasty comment to her, she sounded annoyed as she said that because she was next to him, he didn't have to speak. However she was there if he wanted to. "Look... I'm sorry fo..." Matt began as he saw someone approach Emilie, telling her to get up and start off for the night, and that he'd take over for her for now. Matt noticed the glare the man was giving him and he looked back, glaring back into the man's eyes. He was tempted to make this man think he was on fire or something and watch him run around like a lunatic. He waited for the girl to leave before he spoke at the man.
"Listen up pal. I'm not one for people giving me dirty looks. Keep it up, and you'll be under the impression you're a little 5 year old girl playing tea parties." Matt said to the man, glaring into his eyes as he took another swig of his beer. However as soon as the barmaid began to sing, Matt's eyes softened up as he turned around to look at her. Her voice... It as if an angel was speaking through her when she sang. He just watched her in awe, ignoring anything the man was saying to Matt.
When she finished up, she came back to the bar, Matt following her with his eyes, until the other man left, her being where her friend was. Matt quickly finished off his beer, raising his hand for her to come over to him. He felt like talking now... As though her voice had opened him up to her. When she came back to him, he just smiled weakly. "Look, I'm sorry for before... It was impolite for me to speak to you that way." He said to her, looking at her with sorrow in his eyes.

After Emilie had told the guy that he didn’t have to talk just because she was standing behind him, he had begun to talk to her again, but trailed off when her father approached. She was sure he was about to apologise for the way he had spoken to her, but right now all she was bothered about was pleasing her father. She did give the guy a weak smile however, and then she went off to sing the first of her songs. While Emilie was doing this, her father Gary took over and began to serve some of the customers on Emilie’s side of the bar. He couldn’t stop glancing at the guy he had heard speak to his daughter in a bit of a nasty way. He wasn’t going to say anything, because he wouldn’t want to embarrass his daughter, however that all changed when the guy spoke to him first.
“Well, I’m not one for standing by and listen to some random guy talk to my daughter like they’re dirt on their shoes. Got it?” Gary’s tone wasn’t one of anger, but it was firm, and he just shook his head at what the guy had said about making him think he was a five year old girl playing tea parties. So he was obviously a special like he was and his daughter. He leaned over the bar and in a low voice he said to him, “Well, do that and I might just have to bury the earth around you, quit being a jackass to my daughter, and we’ll do just fine.” With that he gave the guy a slap on his shoulder and went back to serving some of his customers.
It wasn’t long after that Emilie began to sing, and Gary stood and watched her every so often, he was so proud of his daughter, she had the voice of an angel, he was so glad he asked her to sing at his bar, even if she was reluctant to do so, but he couldn’t figure out why, her voice was amazing. She had to know that. Soon enough Emilie was back behind the bar, and Gary gave her a kiss on the cheek, “You were amazing as always, I’ll give you a shout when it’s time for you to go up again.” Emilie smiled at her father, “Alright dad, thanks.” She then watched as he made his way round to the other side of the bar, and she had made her way over to Paddy, who wasted no time in telling her how terrific she sounded as always.
Emilie would side glance over to the guy every so often, and eventually she caught him raising his hand vying for her attention, she figured he wanted another drink. She told Paddy she’d be back in a minute and then made her way over to him. The soon as she reached him before he even began to speak, she got in first, “So you’re after another beer?” However, when he did begin to speak he wasn’t asking for another beer, but instead apologising to her. Emilie gave him a warm smile, “That’s alright babe, I’ve dealt with worse than you, trust me. But I won’t deny you could have handled it better, but anyway.” She then decided if they were going to talk she may as well introduce herself, she put her hand out, “Emilie Swan.”

Matt simply grinned weakly at the man as he began to speak about not having his daughter treated like that. So the barmaid was his daughter... That would make the situation seem more sensible. Matt just grinned at the man as he replied once again to Matt, saying that if he tried, Matt would be buried under the earth. So he was a terrakinetic. Like Samuel Sullivan. "I'll be sure to note that..." Matt said, as the barmaid's father walked away, turning once he heard Emilie's voice.
After she had sung, Matt had called her over and apologized to her, listening as she replied, saying she had dealt with worst. He'd believe it too. Bars were often where people tended to be their most mischevious. However she soon took the liberty to introduce herself. Emilie Swan. A nice name, he figured. He put his own hand out, shaking hers gently. "Matthew Tobruk." He said to her with a weak smile as he pulled his hand back. She had nice, soft skin.
"Look, I'm just having a bad day... No, actually more like a bad couple of months... I have a special ability, and lately, people at work and around me tend to see me as a freak. People I thought were friends are enemies and what not." Matt said, looking down at the bar, avoiding eye contact with Emilie. "Not that you'd know about anything like that..." He said, looking up to her and nodding slightly. "Would you Ms. Swan?" He asked her with a smile.

When Gary saw the weak smile on the guy’s face, he began to soften his looks a little and gave the guy a weak smile back as he wasn’t in the habit of losing new customers, but nobody spoke to his daughter like that; nobody. After the guy had threatened Gary, he threatened him right back, but told him to lay off Emilie and they would get along fine. Gary had to snigger at the guy’s response, “Yeah, make sure you do.” He then poured the guy a pint of beer and handed him it over, “On the house, welcome to my bar.” He then went off to serve some more of his customers. Gary then watched from time to time as Emilie sung, the guy seemed to be taken in by her voice, just like most of his male customers were.
After Emilie had introduced herself, she felt the guy take her hand and shake it; she smiled more when she got his name. “Well, I’m pleased to meet you Matthew.” Again Emilie didn’t push him to talk, again she figured he would speak if and when he was ready to, at least it was he who had called her over, and not Emilie trying her luck again by asking if he was ready to talk yet. Not that she would have done that, what was up with people was never any of her business, unless they chose to tell her.
After a few seconds he did begin to speak, and Emilie propped her elbows up on the bar again and once more snacking on peanuts, listened to what Matt was saying. “Well babe, I’m the epitome of having a bad time, the last couple years of my life I never want to repeat.” She left it at that, not that she wouldn’t speak of her past, but again, like not prying into other’s business, she wouldn’t force her own problems on people unless they asked her about them. She noticed he was a special as well which was interesting her. She wondered what ability he had. He added that she wouldn’t know anything about that.
She leaned in closer to his ear, “You’d be surprised at how much I know babe. I’m one as well, mimic other specials’ powers.” She gave him a bright smile and moved a bit away from him again. “I also know what it’s like to lose trust in people.” She was so lucky her father had come back into her life when he had, otherwise she might not even be here talking to Matt today. “And I can assure you, you’re no freak, after all that would make me one too.” She gave him a light laugh then, maybe he wasn’t so bad after all, there was a teddy bear in there waiting to get out she thought, although she still wasn’t about to rush into anything. Not after what she had been through, it wouldn’t be good for her and it wouldn’t be good for Matt either.

When Emilie replied to Matt's comment about having a bad time lately, Matt just smiled. He was tempted to read her mind and find out what kind of things she had experienced... But he decided against it. What right did he have to pry into her private thoughts. "I'm sorry to hear that..." He said to her smiling weakly at her, nodding his head slightly. He hated hearing who other people had gone through terrible things. Things that would make one cringe. Like his situation a year ago...
When she replied to Matt's comment about being a special, his eyes widened a little. She was a power mimic as well?! He looked at her curiously and waited for her to finish when he leaned forward a little, looking into her eyes. "You're like me... I can mimic powers too." He said quietly to her, his own eyes full of curiousity. It was odd how a couple of days ago, Matt ran into a power mimicking kid from the future, and now this girl. Wasn't his ability meant to be a rare one?
As he sat back into his original position, he actually smiled brightly for the first time in a while. He was with someone who could do what he could, and not a nutjob from the future. She was normal. "So what abilities have you absorbed? I got regeneration, telepathy and super speed. Don't worry, I'm not reading your thoughts, tI don't like doing that." Matt said with his bright smile, looking into Emilie's eyes.

When Emilie told Matt she was the epitome of having a bad time she hadn’t offered any more information, not that she didn’t want him to know, but because she felt he obviously had enough problems of his own without hearing what she had been through. If he was interested enough to know, she was sure he would ask. “Don’t worry babe, I’m over it, just glad my dad showed up in my life again when he did.” She replied giving him a little more information than she probably had intended to. She saw that weak smile of his, she smiled back, a little more reassuring as if to try and tell him that she was alright now. She may not have liked what she had gone through, but one thing was for sure, it had certainly made her a bit tough.
When Emilie admitted that she was a special too, she saw his eyes open wide, and she had to hold back a bit of a giggle, then he spoke, saying she was like him and he could mimic powers as well. “How cool is that?” She couldn’t help but ask, because Emilie did think it was rather cool he had chosen to finally speak to her and it turned out they were both specials who shared the same ability. Matt then sat back a bit and she caught him smiling brightly. It lit up his whole face and it really suited him. She leaned forward again, “You should do that more often you know, a smile like that should not be hidden from the world.” She had to laugh at herself, she was sounding like her dad, it was exactly what he had said to her when he’d met her when she was at her lowest.
Matt then asked her what powers she had absorbed and went on to tell her the powers he had absorbed so far. He then added that she wasn’t to worry he wasn’t going to read her thoughts, he didn’t like doing that. She let out a gentle sigh feeling somewhat relieved, he may have not welcomed some of her thoughts, especially when she was thinking of the trouble she had accidentally managed to get herself into a couple of years ago. She hoped she never had to go through any of that again. “You have some cool powers there Matt. Well I have regeneration also as it happens, and I also have telekinesis and cryokinesis.” Emilie then placed her hand over the jug of water next to her and making sure nobody was watching, began to make an ice sculpture of a car and then tipped the jug over and it slipped out. She then picked it up and placed it on the bar. “I can do things like that. Although my usual pieces of art are usually butterflies, or hearts or roses, but somehow I don’t think that’s your thing.” She wrinkled her nose slightly and then began to laugh a little.

"Yeah it's got it's moments." Matt said with a smile, looking at Emilie as she replied to his comment about having the same ability as her. It was amazing how someone like her had such a powerful ability. Normally Matt could pick up whether someone had a powerful ability or not, but the way Emilie acted, it was as if her power meant nothing to her. That she was a human like everyone else. Matt liked that a lot.
When she commented on his smile, he just chuckled softly, nodding his head as he looked into her eyes once again. "Yeah... Unfortunately I'm not really in a lot of situations where I get the chance to smile. I work for the secret service, so it's always mission this, protect this vip that. This is actually the first time in a while I've gotten a chance to relax a little." Matt said to her, smiling at Emilie. She was definitely someone Matt would keep in contact with now. Not only because she had the same power as Matt. But she seemed interested in him as well.
When Emilie explained her powers, Matt just smiled gleefully. "Well, at least you and I are durable. That's one thing we have in common..." He said to her with a chuckle at the end. He watched her create a beautiful ice car from the jug of water and explained she created art similar to that. "Wow... That's... That's a great talent you have there. Just like on stage." He said to her, nodding a little. "You have an amazing voice. You ever thought of going professional?" Matt asked her with a smile.

{ooc - sorry I took so long}
Emilie hadn’t meant to act quite so excited over the fact she and Matt shared the same ability, but she did think it was rather cool. It wasn’t often she met someone who was like her; an Evolved Human, but when she had, they never had the same ability as her. It did begin to make her wonder what powers he held already although she was soon to find out. At least he was smiling more which was nice. Emilie was the type of barmaid who hated to see her customers feeling down and sad or depressed and she always usually did what she could to make them happy. “Yeah, I guess it does have its moments.” She replied agreeing with him in less of an excitable voice this time.
After Emilie had commented on Matt’s smile and telling him he should do it more often she heard him chuckle which made her smile all the more at him. When he looked into her eyes, she mentally had to pull herself back a little because she could feel herself falling into those pools of brown and she wasn’t about to let that happen, not so easily anyway, she’d made enough mistakes in the past, it was time to start using her head more and not letting her heart run away with all the decisions. When Matt spoke however, Emilie began to understand more why he didn’t smile as much even it were rather sad in her eyes.
She began to nod her head slightly, “So, I’m talking to a government official? I best behave and make sure I’ve paid any speeding fines.” She was naturally kidding about the speeding fines, she didn’t owe any, and in fact she was such a good driver and careful driver she hadn’t got herself into trouble with the law at all when it came to driving. She hadn’t got herself into trouble with the law personally either, only because her father came back into her life at the right moment, otherwise she might have done. “Well I’m glad you found a chance to relax now, maybe it’s something you should try to allow yourself to do a little more often. All work and no play make Matthew Tobruk a dull boy if you ask me.” Alright, so maybe she was playing with him, just a little, but she couldn’t help it, and what was wrong with a bit of harmless flirting?
Matt then asked what powers she had retained so far, and he then went on to tell her what he had absorbed so far. After Emilie had told him about having regeneration she had to smile when he picked up on the fact that both of them were more or less immortal and in a way it was nice to hear they had that in common, even if they had only just got talking a few minute ago. Emilie had then gone on to sculpt a car out of the water beside her using her cryokinesis power after telling him her other two absorbed powers and handed it over to Matt. She had to smile more and slightly blush when he said that it was a great talent she had like on stage. “Thanks.”
When Matt continued asking her about going professional, she almost choked on the peanut she was currently chewing on. “Singing professionally?” She asked with a surprised look on her face, “Nah, if it weren’t for my dad asking me to sing a couple of songs every night I worked I wouldn’t do it. I don’t think I’m that great, but you know what parents are like, you could be the shittiest singer alive but they’ll put you out there like you’re the best thing since...” She trailed off trying to think of the best diva she liked, “...like Mariah Carey.” She began to laugh a little then, “But thank you Matt, it’s very kind of you to say that.” She really didn’t think she was that great, and anyway, what would happen to helping her father out if she all of a sudden decided to go professional with her singing?

"Well since you've been kind to me, despite my rudeness, perhaps I'll be willing to overlook certain things." Matt said with a smile. God that sounded cheesy, was the thought running through his mind. Being disconnected from people really did a number on one's ability to flirt or be funny. And this wasn't any different. He just chuckled as Emilie commented on how he needed to relax more and how work made him a dull boy. "Well maybe you should complain to my superior, get me suspended so I can have some time off." He said with a smile.
When the topic of her voice came up, Matt wasn't surprised that Emilie seemed a little hesitant about the idea of her singing professionally. After she commented on it, as well as thanking Matt for his comment, Matt just smiled at her. "Well I wouldn't use Mariah Carey... I mean seriously, all she does is bitch about how her wine isn't French and marry dudes that are like 20 years younger than her." Matt said, smiling at her. "I'd say you got more of a Beyonce feel to you. A down to earth attitude. And that was without reading your mind." Matt said with a chuckle.
It was surprising, but Matt was opening up to this girl more than he had done to anyone before. There was just something about her that Matt could trust in her. Like she could be the sort of person that could look into you and see the real you, not what you see on the outside. "Look... I know this is probably gonna sound strange, but... Um..." Matt said, rubbing the back of his head as he looked at her with a sheepish smile.
"Um... Would you like to... Go for lunch or something one day? I mean, not as a date or anything, not that I wouldn't want to... But... Ah crap." Matt said, lowering his head for a moment before looking back up to her. "You wanna go out for lunch one day?" He just said, plain and simple.

When Emilie had joked about the speeding fines when she found out Matt worked for the government she couldn’t help but grin at his response. “Well, to be fair it’s my job to be nice to customers, as the law says, they’re always right.” She began to laugh a little then, “However, it is very nice of you to suggest overlooking it, but I’m happy to say I don’t owe any speeding fines anyway.” She gave him a wink and then poured herself a glass of coke and took a sip of it. She was allowed to have a drink when she wanted so long as it wasn’t alcoholic, as with most laws when it came to working in a bar, you weren’t allowed to drink alcohol while working.
Matt then suggested she speak to his superior when she spoke of all work and no play making him a dull boy. She put up her fists as if she was pretending to fight, “Let me at him then.” She grinned before continuing, “However I’m not sure what there is I could complain about, I’d be more inclined to just tell them to give you more fun time. After all, how could they say no to this?” She began to walk up and down the bar a little swaying her hips and then laughed out loud. She hadn’t had fun like that for a long time, unless you counted the joking she did with Paddy and then it was he who was making her laugh, not Emilie doing the joking.
Emilie wondered if using Mariah Carey was a bad choice and she was soon proven right when Matt commented on it. “Well I did say diva and she’s the biggest one out there.” What Matt had said was true; Mariah was a diva of the biggest extent, demanding this and that. Emilie knew she would never be like that even if she did go into singing professionally; it just wasn’t in her to be like that. She was too normal, too well grounded. Matt then spoke some more and pretty much got her personality down in a nutshell. When he added that was without reading her mind she tilted her head to the side and pursed her lips slightly with a smile, “Are you sure about that?” She knew he was telling the truth though, somehow. “But yes, down to earth would probably best suit me and Beyonce really? That sure is a compliment and a half.” Beyonce was another one of Emilie’s favourite singers.
It then went quiet for a few seconds until Matt began to talk again, and she watched with fascination as he seemed to get a little tongue tied with what he was saying. She leaned on the bar again with her hand under her chin and raised an eyebrow as he continued to try and speak to her with difficulty. The sheepish smile he gave her did make her wonder what he was about to say, with Emilie not exactly having tickets on herself, she wasn’t expecting his broken words to lead to him asking her on a date. When he finished his first attempt with the word crap at the end, Emilie couldn’t help but shake her head and lift her other hand up to her mouth and quietly laugh behind it hoping it didn’t appear to be rude at all. To make up for having the little laugh she moved her hand from her mouth and put it on his arm gently.
“Why don’t you try that again?” She gave him a warm smile and then waited for him to ask the question again in a simple manner. She wasn’t sure what to say, because she had told herself she wouldn’t get involved with a guy at a drop of a hat, but there was something enchanting about Matt, he was nice without being sugary nice and Emilie liked that, almost like he could be a protective friend for her and hell did she need plenty of friends. It was only lunch after all, not like he had just got down on one knee and proposed to her. “Sure, why not? I could do with some friends; just let me know when suits you best and I’ll make sure I’m free.”

Matt chuckled as Emilie said that while she may not be able to complain, they wouldn't be able to resist her womanly charms, which she displayed soon afterwards. As she walked, Matt couldn't help but think how nice her body was when she did walk. How she curved so naturally... He snapped out of that thought but as Emilie returned to him. He didn't want to look like a perv.
When the topic moved onto Emilie comparing herself to Mariah Carey. She seemed to be delighted that Matt had decided to compare her to Beyonce, rather than that stuck-bitch Mariah. When she replied to his comment with delight, Matt just smiled. "It's my duty to serve and protect the egos of people worldwide." He said, bowing his head to her, and chuckling afterwards. And then he decided to muster up some courage that didn't involve being out in a mission to ask her out.
Her response to the first time was expected. She had asked him to try again, and so that time he did, in just a plain simple manner. He was surprised that she had said yes though. Someone who was rude to her before and after a sudden shift in attitude asking her out, and she said yes? One thing was for sure, she was trusting of people. And while for people like Matt that was good, others would take advantage of her for that. "Ok sweet. So... What are you doing on Saturday? I've got that day off, so if you want, maybe we'll meet down by the Washington Memorial and go from there?" Matt asked her, smiling at her.
