Saturday 12th December, 2009
It had been exactly a week since Matthew Tobruk had made his presence known to Emilie at her father’s bar. They hadn’t exactly gotten off to a good start what with his rather dour attitude toward her, but then he had suddenly seemed to change and they struck up a conversation. A conversation where Emilie found out Matt was a special like she was. Not that she distrusted non specials, but with her history she just found it more difficult to trust non specials. So when Matt finally asked her on a lunch date, she had agreed. Maybe it surprised Matt she had said yes, in fact it might even have surprised her a little, but she needed friends and she thought why not.
So now, here she was waiting at the Washington Memorial where he had said they were to meet. She had sent him a text to make sure that he was still going to be free, because she had remembered him saying how busy he could get. She thought she could get busy at the bar, but in honesty if it got too much for her and she needed some time to herself, she only had to ask her father and he would say yeah it was fine she could take a couple of days off. It wasn’t as if Emilie was his only staff, but he loved the idea of having Emilie working for him because he wanted to pass the bar onto her when his time came to meet heaven. When he had told her this, she had slapped him on the arm and told him not to talk like that; he had plenty time left in him yet.
Emilie hadn’t wanted to appear too eager and be there waiting for him, but the traffic hadn’t been so bad and she had got to the destination much sooner than intended. She sat down on a bench and hoped that he wouldn’t think she was this over eager girl, because she didn’t want that impression to come over, in fact she was actually nervous as hell. She really didn’t know this guy, for all she knew he could easily have been setting her up into a trap. Now as she begun to think like that, she started getting very worried. Maybe I should just send him a text and tell him something came up and I can’t make it, she thought to herself. She got up from the bench and began to walk away and then stopped, she was being silly, hadn’t she said last week there was just something about him she trusted?
She slowly and casually made her way back to the bench and sat back down again twiddling with her fingers.

"No... No... GOD DAMN IT!" Matt roared to himself as he tossed a shirt onto the pile of clothes that was building up next to his mirror. He was trying to find something suitable to wear to this... well he could call it a date. He'd decided on dark jeans, but now the shirt was the hard part. He had gone through and couldn't find one that suited the feel he wanted to give off. After about another 10 minutes of searching, Matt found a white one that was suitable. Within another 10 minutes, his shirt was ironed, his hair was done and he was ready to meet Emilie.
He looked at his cellphone, seeing that he had missed a message from Emilie asking if he was coming. He looked at the time and saw he only had 10 minutes left to meet her. But with the ability of super speed, that seemed to be child's play. After locking up the house, he dashed out towards the Washington memorial, weaving effortlessly through traffic, before stopping in front of the memorial, looking around to see if Emilie was here yet. He turned to a bench nearby and saw the girl sitting there, looking somewhat nervous.
He smiled as he walked towards her, waving his hand to her in a greeting manner. "Hey! Emilie! Matt called out to her, walking towards her still.

Emilie couldn’t believe how nervous she was feeling as she sat on the bench waiting for Matt to arrive. After her initial idea of bolting which she soon stopped herself from doing, the thought ran through her mind another couple of times as she constantly twiddled her fingers together. What if it all went wrong? What if spending proper time with him away from the comfort of the bar would give away a lot more about him she wouldn’t like? She had never been nervous like this before, but then this was the first guy she had agreed to go on a date with since she recovered from her drug addiction. She might be a bit tough now, but even the toughest could crumble when their nerves gave out.
She wasn’t going to get a third opportunity of making a run for it however, as she soon saw the familiar figure approach from the other side of the memorial. Then he had spotted her as he shouted out her name and waved and began to walk toward her. Definitely no escape now she thought, as she gave him what she hoped was a genuine smile and not one which would show off how nervous she really was. She waved back at him, “Hey babe.” Should she stay sat down and wait for him to reach her, or should she get up and walk toward him and hug him, or, she was so nervous it was scary.
She decided to stand up and walk toward him. “I have to say babe it sure looks nice to see you looking relaxed from the moment I see you unlike last week.” She gave him a cheeky smile then, wondering if she was beginning to get back a little bit of her confidence, she hated when her nerves took over, because nobody ever got to see the real Emilie then. She then decided to start up general conversation, what else could she do, they were just friends going for lunch, right? “So, how was your week? I hope it was a better one than last week?”

Matt smiled weakly as Emile waved back to him, calling out to him as she seemed to mulling over whether she should sit or stand. It was a bit nerve racking for Matt too. This was the first time in a long time he was going on what could be called a date and frankly he was clueless as to what to do. Perhaps flowers would've been nice for her as a gift? He didn't know.
He saw her coming towards him, he smiled a bit more brightly as she said that it was good that he was relaxed off the bat as opposed to last time. "Yeah, well when I have something good to look forward to, it does help." He said with a smile. And it was true. Emilie was on Matt's mind all week. All the planning, the tactics he was planning to use while on this date. It was more like a mission than a meeting with someone. When she asked how his week had gone, Matt's smile faded a little.
This had not been a good week for him in fact. Especially with his latest mission, involving a young girl named Molly Walker. He had been ordered to mimic her power, so he could use her gift to find the specials that he was assigned to arrest. It wasn't something Matt approved of, voicing his concerns and getting in more trouble than he wanted. So in actual fact it was worse than last week.
"Um... I think it would be better if I asked you how your week went." Matt said to her, not really wanting to kill her mood so early in the... well, the date.

Once Emilie decided to actually get up and meet Matt as he was toward her she commented on how it was nice to see him relaxing from the moment she saw him unlike the week before, when he replied saying it helped having something to look forward to she couldn’t help but smile. It was nice to know he had been looking forward to their, well date, because she had been looking forward to it as well, but for Emilie she was also nervous as hell about it. Most of the week was taken with Emilie wondering what she should wear. She ended up going for the casual look, wearing her hipster trousers and another crop top similar to the one she had been wearing the week before. She liked to show off her belly button piercing whenever possible. She did have a jacket on as well though, because they were now into winter after all. “Well, I’m glad you found it something to look forward to. It was the same for me only I had a crisis thing going on wondering what would be best to wear.” Emilie’s words sort of came rolling out like an express train. Yeah, the nerves were still there lying underneath the surface.
Emilie then thought it best to start a general conversation between them and asked how his week was, she soon found out that probably wasn’t the best approach to the conversation. When he said it would be better if he asked her how her week went, she gave him a rather weak smile, “Oh, so bad topic choice, right.” She mentally slapped herself, she should have known better than to ask him how his week had gone, hadn’t he explained what his job was, how was one week going to be better than another. She looked down at her feet for a second thinking that she had blown it right from the first moment by asking him the most obvious question she probably should have avoided. Then she slowly looked back up at him again and gave him another weak smile.
“My week was alright I guess, just busy in the bar as always, that’s usually a night thing, my days are my own, which is good, I usually have things which take away my time.” Like narcotics anonymous, however she refrained from telling him that. She was fully over the drugs, but she still went to the class one day a week just to keep on the better side of things, she never wanted to slip again, even if the drug addiction had happened involuntarily. Most of the time she would either just sit and read or play some music, sometimes she sang along, just whatever the mood took her really.

"Well that's nothing to fret over, seeing as I don't really worry about how someone is dressed. I care more about the inside." Matt said to her, smiling at her as she had replied to him about looking forward to this... well, this date. He had been worrying about how he looked as well, so he was a bit hypocritical in that topic. But then the topic of Matt's week came up and he decided to ask her how she was first.
"No... Not a bad topic choice. Just don't wanna ruin this nice event with a bad story." Matt said as he saw Emilie put her head down. "Hey, look it's ok. Don't worry about it." Matt said to her, smiling gently and hoping to make her feel a little better. He didn't want this girl to feel as though she was doing something wrong or the such. He just had been having a bad week.
When Emilie started talking about how her week had gone, Matt just smiled and nodded at her, noting that she hesitated a little at the end of her talk, like she was hiding something. But then again, Matt was hiding things from her too. So he wasn't about to ask her about matters he had no business in. "Oh, so what kind of things do you do? Like hobby-wise and stuff?" Matt said to her, smiling a little.
Yeah... This is ok. Not as bad as I thought, though... Matt thought to himself, smiling at Emilie.

After Emilie spoke of having a bit of a crisis thing going on over what to wear, she had to smile softly when Matt told her that it wasn’t something she should have been fretting over, adding that he didn’t really care about how someone was dressed, that he cared more about the inside. Well Emilie could relate to that, as she felt the same way. She hated when people never took the time to get to know someone, instead going on how they looked. “Well thanks Matt, I have to say I like how you think, I always thought the same thing myself.” Although maybe he wouldn’t like what was on the inside, especially if she were to ever open up to him about her past problems. Then she mentally slapped herself, she wasn’t like that anymore, she was a different person.
After Emilie had remarked that it was a bad topic choice he soon told her that it wasn’t but he just didn’t want to bring the event down with a bad story. It had been a while since Emilie had been on a, well date and a lot of the first time nerves were still very much there, so she had been looking down at her feet feeling really stupid for asking him a question about his work when she knew from week before it may well have been best avoided. Matt then spoke to her again telling her that it was alright. “Alright then, kind of don’t want to ruin the day either, just thought for a second I already had.” She then smiled warmly at him, so he knew that she was no longer worrying about what she had asked.
Matt then asked her what she liked to do hobby wise and stuff, well it wasn’t that much in honesty, she just smiled, “Just simple things really, reading, listening to music, maybe going to the movies...” and going to my narcotics anonymous group once a week. Maybe it was time she began to get more hobbies to add to her list, after telling Matt what she liked to do she realised it was somewhat rather pitiful. “So, what about you? What do you like to do when you get time to yourself?” Then she wondered if Matt had somewhere in mind to go for this lunch date, or if she should mention the cafe she and her dad usually go to, which was run by a nice Italian family. “So, did you have somewhere in mind to go? Or, were we just going to walk and go to the first place that jumps out at us?”

"Well it appears that once again, you and I appear to have another thing in common, Ms. Swan." Matt said to her, bowing his head to her slightly as he smiled a cheeky smile at her. He wasn't normally like this... All happy and sparky... It was almost nice to put his walls down and let someone in. Almost nice.... He wasn't going to allow this girl to get in that easily though... Even some of the best telepaths couldn't pierce Matt's mind. Why should she be any different?
When Emilie commented that she didn't intend to ruin the day, but thought that she had, Matt just looked at her with empathic eyes. "Yeah, well I'm willing to let this pass if you are." Matt said with a smile, looking into Emilie's eyes as he spoke. He was awfully tempted to read her mind. Find what things she liked to try to please her more... However he knew it was wrong. A person's private thoughts were that. Private.
When she listed her hobbies, Matt just smiled. It was nice she honed her music skills which was why she had such an amazing voice. Being able to make a hardened soul like Matt open up a little. When she asked what Matt's hobbies were, he lowered his head a little. "I... I don't really... Do anything. I train. Make sure my abilities are at peak level. Make sure I can burst the sound barrier within a couple of seconds, make sure the toughest mind can be pierced by my telepathy... My life is basically based on my abilities. The joy of being a Secret Service Agent." Matt said to her, looking back up to her with a weak smile.
"But hopefully with a new friend, that can change..." Matt said to her, wanting her to feel as though she was helping him. Which she was. A lot. So when she asked where Matt wanted to go, he just smiled at her. "You decide. Something tells me you know the places here better than I do." Matt said to her, not really caring where they want.

Emilie had to smile when Matt said it appeared they had yet another thing in common when she had said she always believed what’s on the inside counts more than the outside. He then bowed his head slightly with what she could only describe as that gorgeous smile on his face. “I would say that can only be a good thing.” Even if the old saying was opposites attract, Emilie could never quite believe how that one would work. It was so nice to see him so relaxed as she once again let her mind drift back to the week before and the way he had acted toward her, maybe she shouldn’t have agreed to see him so soon. However she had, she would just have to put up some walls, she didn’t want to fall back into her old habits when she had trusted the man she took a part time job with. Thinking about how that had ended up caused her to shudder.
Realising she had probably been quiet for too long, she gave Matt an apologetic look, “Sorry, I just got lost in some memories I really wish I hadn’t.” Now he was probably going to question that, and it wasn’t something she wanted to talk about just yet, she needed to trust him before she could give away that kind of information, for all she knew he might be connected to the people who had caused her life a misery.
When Matt said he was willing to let it pass after she had thought she ruined the day, she just gave him a weak smile. It maybe wasn’t as bad as she thought it might have been, but there was definitely some sort of awkwardness on her part and wondering if Matt was feeling it too was just making it feel even worse. “Okay.” It was all she could think of to say, it was definitely awkward and once again she was beginning to wonder if she should have just upped and left when she thought about it earlier. She knew she had to stop thinking like that, it was all new, all first dates, if you could call it a date were awkward, why would this one be any different?
After Emilie had told Matt her hobbies she had of course asked him the same question. She watched as he lowered his head, and immediately Emilie said to herself, shit, I’ve done it again, said the wrong thing. He then sort of stumbled over his words at first before telling her that he just trained to make sure his abilities were at their peak level. It was really quite sad to think he had no real hobbies as such. This guy seriously needed a life away from his work, “Well, if that’s what you like to do...” She trailed off slightly, biting on her bottom lip before resting her hand on his arm, “...but maybe you should try to get out more.” She smiled at him, she really couldn’t help herself but to say what she did she would hate if her life got as boring as that. Then again her life was anything but boring a couple of years ago and she never wanted to go back to that, so maybe having a boring life wasn’t so bad.
Matt then added hopefully with a new friend that could change. Emilie smiled at Matt, “Well I certainly like the challenge you have set me.” Emilie knew she would do what she could to help Matt’s social life change a little, but she worked too, and it might be difficult for them to meet up often, what with her usually working evenings while Matt would be working days. Matt replied to Emilie saying she was to decide where they were to go, something told him she knew the places better than he did. She raised her eyebrow at that wondering if he’d read her mind, but no, he wouldn’t do that, would he?
“Well I do know of a nice cafe run by a nice Italian family, we could go there, dad and I often go. They do lovely Western food as well as Italian. It’s called Luigi’s.” She gave him a bright smile and began to head in the direction of the cafe she mentioned. It would only take them around five minutes to get to it from where they were.

"Don't worry about it. We all have memories that just pop up at the worst possible times..." Matt said as the memory of the night he discovered his ability, mistaking it for healing and how his grandfather had attacked him... The blood... His wounds just healing over every time the knife pierced his body... He snapped out of the thought, looking back to Emilie with a weak smile. "Sorry... Just heard someone's thoughts nearby... Very disturbing." Matt said, covering up for his lapse in emotions.
When Emilie replied to Matt's comment about his training, he frowned a little as she finished with the comment of maybe he needed to get out more. "Oh I get out... Just hunting down people that the government deem dangerous. You know, risking my life and all." Matt said with a sarcastic tone, not really liking being told to 'get out more'. She didn't know his situation in the secret service was one of entrapment. "Look... I'm sorry. Bad week is all." He apologized to her, remembering that she didn't know the full story about his life, so it was natural for her to say those things.
When she replied to the comment of Matt setting her a challenge. Oh that was delightful. He was a challenge now. That was something great to say to someone on their first... meeting, date, whatever this was. "Well it's nice to know I raise the bar in social challenges." Matt said with a weak smile, soon after replying to her question about where to eat. She replied by mentioning a place her and her father went to a lot, saying it was good food.
"Yeah why not. I'm not gonna get 'offed' for walking in with you, right? Since they know your dad?" Matt said with a slightly brighter smile. However he was thinking the opposite. How wonderful to be taken to a place her and daddy-dearest liked to go to. It seemed like she was very attached to her father. Something Matt never got the chance to do, since his parents died when he was young.

{ooc - sorry it took me so long Matt - just been feeling right miserable this past week}
When Emilie apologised to Matt when she had got lost in some memories she said she wished she hadn’t, she gave him a weak smile as he responded, saying she wasn’t to worry about it that everybody had memories which popped up at the worst possible times. He did sort of just stop as if in mid sentence, but she replied anyway, “Well, I’m glad I’m not alone then.” It did make her wonder why he had gone quiet, had he just been thinking of some memories himself given what he had just said to her? It wasn’t in her place to question it, and soon enough Matt spoke again apologising blaming it on hearing someone else’s thoughts which were apparently very disturbing. Emilie gave him a slight sympathetic look, “You know, it must be terrible to be able to hear people’s thoughts all the time. Do you find it difficult to shut yourself off then or what?” If he’d had the ability for a while she would have thought he would have had it mastered by now, but maybe it was a newer ability.
After Emilie told Matt he should maybe get out more, she saw that frown on his face and it made her wish she hadn’t said it. This was definitely turning out to be the epitome of awkward first date she realised. After Matt replied saying that he did get out but hunting down people the government deemed dangerous, risking his life and all that. Emilie blinked a couple of times, “Look I’m sorry, maybe this wasn’t such a good idea.” She didn’t know what else to say, it would seem that she was saying all the wrong things so far. She was about to just walk away from him, when he apologised blaming it on a bad week. It made her wonder if they were to date if it would be the same thing each time, always a bad week with him. She’d had enough bad weeks herself to last her a life time. She gave him a weak smile, “Alright then, apology accepted.”
She couldn’t really hold a bad week against him, after all everybody could have a bad week, she was no different. After Matt had said that with a friend maybe it could change, she had said she liked the challenge he had set her, but really she hadn’t meant anything by it. Figure of speech and all that, but once again it would seem it was the wrong choice of words she had used. “I actually didn’t mean anything bad by saying that, I just meant that it was nice you are willing to let me be a friend.” Maybe that would be a better choice of words? But really with some guys, who knew what the right and wrong thing was to say. She was beginning to wonder if she would ever get it right with Matt.
Emilie had then suggested an Italian cafe she and her dad frequented often and thankfully Matt seemed to like the idea although spoke asking if he was going to get ‘offed’ for walking in with her because they knew her dad. She did see the bright smile so figured he was messing around slightly, but she wanted to put him at ease. “No, you will not get ‘offed’ for walking in with me. You aren’t scared of my teddy bear of a father are you?” Emilie couldn’t help but ask, because Gary was a sweetheart inside, he was just very protective of his only child, his only daughter, and with everything his family had gone through over the years he had a right to be protective of her. Soon enough they had reached the cafe and Emilie opened the door and held it open for Matt, even if it should have been the other way around, but Emilie didn’t bother about all that crap, whoever got to the door first held it open for the other, simple as.
She went right to the counter and noticed that it was Benito who was serving. He looked at her and smiled, “Ciao Bella Emilie, what can I get today for you?” He asked in his mixed accent. She smiled, “I shall have my cappuccino with marshmallows please and your spaghetti bolognaise.” She then looked at Matt and waited for him to order before she began to make her way over to the table she usually sat at.

Matt just smiled as Emile began to speak about hearing thoughts, it sounded as though he had only gotten the ability recently and was not in complete control. This was further from the truth, as he had such a precise control over his telepathy, he could make it so that everyone around them saw the pair as a couple of dragons who were terrorising the area. "Um... No, I actually am classed as one of the top telepaths in the government. It's just when I'm nervous... I kinda hear thoughts..." He said, although that was true, he wasn't being entirely honest with her. Why would he tell her about his dark past. She had no involvement.
However after he'd explained what his job was, she said that maybe this wasn't a good idea. Well at least both were sort of on the same page on that topic... Then why the hell was he here? He could easily speed off, and she'd never see him again. But that wasn't the way Matt wanted to be. Alone. He wanted people around him. He needed to liked. Loved. So he just smiled weakly at Emilie and began to speak about his bad week, which luckily she seemed to relate to that.
After the comment about Matt being a challenge and his reaction to it, Emilie apologized and said that she should have worded it differently. Matt just lowered his head a little, looking up at her with apologetic eyes. "Sorry... It's just... Never mind, let's go and eat." He said with a smile, deciding to cut out his emotions for that topic and just move on. He wasn't one for dragging on unnecessary conversation topics.
When Emilie replied to his comment about being offed, including her playful question about Matt being afraid of her father, Matt just smirked cockily. "My dear... I've battled people who can control reality, make your worst fears appear in front of your eyes, and even attack you in your sleep. Your dad is fish bait compared to them." He said with a smile, winking at her to hopefully show her he was joking.
After they entered and were seated, Emilie made her order and the waiter looked at Matt, waiting for his order. "I'll have a chicken parmigiana with a coke please." He said to the waiter, smiling at him, before looking back to Emilie. "So..." He began, thinking of something to speak about with her, "You have the same power as I do. How's that for you..." He asked her, wanting to get the perspective of someone like him about living with the same power.

{ooc - Matt I am so sorry this took me so long - I am thankful to say that I seem to be over the infection so here's hoping I can be in a better position to keep on top of my posts now}
Oh My God thought Emilie, just make the ground swallow me now was all she could think when Matt replied saying that he was classed as one of the best telepaths the Government had. Could this first date be any more awkward and get any more embarrassing? Maybe she should just cut and run as the thought went through her mind for at least the third time so far. Matt then added that when he was nervous he could hear the thoughts more. So, he was nervous she thought, well he couldn’t be much more nervous than she was surely? “I can understand that.” She replied, and then realising that she didn’t have telepathy herself, “Well the nervous part at least.” She was nervous as hell and the fact that so many things seemed to be so awkward already wasn’t exactly weakening the nervous feelings any.
She still felt as if he was possibly hiding something from her, but she could talk, she was hiding something from him too and everybody deserved to have their secrets they didn’t want to be known, right? After Emilie had apologised saying she should have worded it differently she watched as he lowered his head slightly and then looked up at her again with what could only be described as apologetic eyes. Well it certainly looked like they were going to be doing a lot of that on this date, was that a good or a bad thing though? He then apologised and sounded like he was going to explain something and then changed his mind saying they should go and eat. Well Emilie wasn’t one to push people, if he wanted to tell her he would. She smiled at him, “Yes, that’s the best thing I’ve heard so far, I’m starving.” She began to laugh lightly then, hoping she has put a little bit of light onto the conversation and their date.
When Emilie had playfully asked Matt if he were afraid of her teddy bear of a father she saw him smirking rather cockily and then he spoke and Emilie couldn’t help but laugh some more, especially when she saw that wink of his. “If that’s what you think, I’ll be happy to let you think it. But you should know that someone who can mess with the elements can be quite dangerous when they want to be.” She knew that he had been messing with her, and in a way she was messing back, but she thought it would be wise for Matt to know what he could be dealing with if he got on the wrong side of her father. Not that Gary was a very bad man, but he had used his ability a few times when trying to save Emilie, by the time he had been finished, there were a few scorch marks on the walls of the place she used to work and a few holes in the ground where it looked like the place had had a few minor earthquakes.
After their orders had been placed and they waited on their food to arrive Matt began to talk to Emilie, obviously just trying to make general conversation. The topic though was her ability and how did she find it. “I like my ability, although I found it quite worrying at first, and wearing gloves until I could control when to take a power and when not to. That wasn’t too easy at first. How about you? Do you like doing what you can do?” She asked turning his question back to him.

Matt just smiled weakly at Emilie as he mentioned his telepathic talents, her reaction not one that he was expecting. Was she really that scared of having her mind read? Did she have something to hide? He was tempted to read her mind now, but chose not to. He knew better than to pry into a civilian's thoughts. So when she replied that she could empathize about being nervous, Matt just nodded. "Well. That's another thing we have in common." He said with a smile that seemed a little brighter now.
Matt just smirked cockily as Emilie replied to his comment about her father and how he had battled evolved humans with powers that would make one freeze in horror. She said her father had the ability to manipulate the elements, and how dangerous he could be if he wanted. So her father did have an ability, like he suspected. And one Matt was fond of as well. "Well now, I guess I'll have to meet him properly then. I've always wanted to be able to shoot out fire and such." He said with a smile.
After they had placed their orders, Matt had asked Emilie about her power and how it was like living with it. He wanted the perspective of a normal person. Not someone who was like him and used his powers purely for combat reasons. She replied with how she liked her power, and how she had trained herself to use it at will. Then she turned his question back onto Matt, and he just smiled weakly.
"It has it's up's and downs..." He began, taking a breath before continuing, "You... You have to understand, I didn't manifest my power under the most ideal circumstances... So in one aspect, I see it as a bit of curse. Unable to be a normal 21 year old, due to my job..." He said, nodding slightly as he looked at her with a brighter smile. "However it does have it's perks. I mean, I can just zoom through traffic easily. And I can go base jumping without a parachute." He said, looking into her eyes.
"So.. What were you doing before you were a barmaid?" He asked her, wanting to know more about Emilie.

When Matt said that being nervous was just something else they had in common Emilie smiled feeling a little better. At least she wasn’t alone with the nerves playing up then. It had been a while since Emilie had been on a proper date with anyone and she had truly forgotten how awkward first dates could be and this one was no exception.
Emilie had then teased Matt about her father and his ability came into the conversation. She couldn’t help but giggle slightly when Matt said he should meet her father properly because he had always wanted to shoot out fire and such. “So, you want to mimic my dad’s power do you? What makes you think he would let you mimic his power?” She asked him playfully following it with a bright smile and then slight laugh.
After Emilie had replied to Matt’s question about her power and dealing with it, she had turned the question back onto him and she smiled as she listened to his reply. She didn’t interrupt him as he spoke, smiling and nodding her head in several places until he seemed to stop for a break. “I’m sorry you didn’t manifest your power under good circumstances and in a way I can appreciate the curse part.” Having to wear gloves at the start so as not to take someone’s power without realising when her ability first manifested was a curse to Emilie. She gave him a sympathetic smile as he spoke of his job and not being able to be a normal twenty-one year old. She knew his job wasn’t the best topic so that’s why she didn’t ask about it.
He then went on to talk about the perks making Emilie smile some more. “I have to agree with you there. However, I wished I had absorbed flight, I would love to be able to fly.” Not that she couldn’t, she just hadn’t come across anybody she knew had that ability for her to mimic. Hopefully she would be able to mimic the power soon.
Matt then asked her another question, one she wasn’t so keen to answer, because it meant delving into her past, and that was something she hadn’t really wanted to do right then. Oh well I used to work at this seedy strip bar run by an Italian Mafia family and they pumped me with drugs, got me hooked and my dad found me at rock bottom and stole me away from them and got me on the straight and narrow. No, somehow that wouldn’t come over too well. She bit on her bottom lip and then sighed; she was going to have to lie. “Nothing much, I’ve been working for my father for a while now, before that it was just school.” She hoped her lie was convincing enough not to make Matt ask further questions.
But no sooner had she said that the door to the cafe opened and Emilie’s eyes almost popped out her head when she saw who had walked in. She quickly got up and wrapped her arms around Matt’s neck so her back was facing the guy who had walked in, she whispered into Matt’s ear, “Just play along, I can’t explain right now.” Then without any further warning she began to kiss Matt.
